Our Goals Today
Explain AP, IB, and Dual Credit options
Answer your questions about AP, IB, and Dual Credit
Answer general questions about course scheduling and
graduation requirements
Course selection opens December 3.
Course selection closes December 13.
Applications are due January 10 for courses that require them.
Arena scheduling opens by grade level after Spring Break.
A few guidelines about
scheduling…
We create the master schedule and hire teachers based on the
classes you select.
Challenge yourself, but do not overload yourself. AP, IB, and Dual
Credit classes tend to have homework and/or assigned reading
each evening.
Choose classes based on your interests… not GPA weight.
Items to consider as you choose your classes:
Do I have time to devote to each class on my schedule?
How well have I done in previous classes in the same subject?
Do I have a job and/or family obligations that will make work
completion difficult?
Am I choosing classes that are aligned with my career goals?
AP, IB, and Dual-Credit
Help prepare you for a college workload
Are taught at a college level
Frequent reading and writing assignments
Classroom tests often have an essay component
Homework is assigned daily
Receive weighted GPA points
AP and IB: 5.0
Dual Credit: 4.5
Can earn college course credit (more about that later),
which saves you money and time!
Advanced Placement (AP®)
Run by the College Board (same company that designed
the PSAT and SAT).
AP is an option for students who want rigorous
coursework in specific subject areas.
AP courses are open to any student who has met the
prerequisites to take them.

International Baccalaureate (IB)
IB is an option for students who are looking for a complete
academic program.

(common misconception)
Similar to AP in rigor, workload, and opportunities for college
credit.
Different from AP in other ways:
Each IB class connects to other IB classes
Some IB courses are two-year courses
Not every IB course is open-enrollment
IB offers the option to earn a second HS diploma
Both oral and written communication are emphasized in each course.
