Commodore Report
Sean Kearns
I hope everyone has been happy and healthy as we transition into the colder seasons.
Colds and sickness has hit our family and I’m hopeful we’ve paid our dues for the
year. Remember to wash your hands as often as you can, this is the number one way
to prevent getting sick. Oh, and if you have small children, now is the time to leave
them with relatives for a few months; it’s good for your health.
I’m not sure if everyone has heard we officially christened our new boat “Our Tern”.
We took advantage of the beautiful weather and anchored up for the ceremony with
everyone in the family taking part. A brand new bottle of rum was opened for the oc-
casion and we’re so happy with our new boat. Speaking of rum, I hope to officially re-
christen the Gilbert River dock on our next cruise. I don’t actually know if you chris-
ten docks but I like christening everything! If Our Tern isn’t floating by then we’ll
show up via dinghy with a bottle of rum. I know Paul Russel is listening now!
Times are a changing...I mean I hope everyone remembered to fall back an hour.
Soon we’ll be changing up our officers on the board and maybe some other changes
also. I know change can be difficult for some, but I think we should be understand-
ing. The change I’m speaking about is the idea to change our NOTS board meeting to
accommodate our new board members who are volunteering to serve to our club.
The 4th Thursday is the proposed change we’re hoping to make. More to follow at
the November board meeting. The other change is to a historical location we’ve held
our Thanksgiving Cruise. We’re having the cruise at the St. Helens city docks this
year. We should be able to accommodate more folks who would like to drive in, plus
the docks have power which is a plus for folks who like to heat with electricity.
The last bit of information is the best news of all! Endearing has returned from Mexi-
co and will be cruising with us this fall and spring. We all benefit from our collective
experiences and I’m sure glad to have Dean and Roxane back home.

First Ladie’s Report
❖❖❖
Wow! What a busy month October was with three amazing cruises! It started off with
the cruise we were not able to attend but I heard it was fantastic with beautiful weather
and amazing singing! I look forward to it happening again next year and hope to go!
The next cruise was the multi-club Halloween cruise at Sand Island. Although it wasn’t
as well attended as in years past it was tons of fun and NOTS represented big time with
all of the prizes and awards given for each of the contests. Thank you to all who partic-
ipated! I always feel the importance of such multi-club gatherings as it helps to provide
a sense of camaraderie for all of us cruisers on the river. The third cruise was not on
Halloween cruise at foothills. There was pumpkin decorating at the park, trick-or-
treating on the dock, dinner in the evening with many members driving in for the
night. It was tons of fun for the kids and great company all around!
Our cruises in November look to be great as well. The Gilbert River is a no host cruise
but we look forward to seeing as many people there as possible to enjoy all of the hard
work that was put into revitalizing and reinforcing the dock there. And then the
Thanksgiving day cruise will actually be at St. Helens versus Sand Island this year so
hopefully folks can drive in to partake in the festivities on Saturday of the Thanksgiving
day weekend.
May each and everyone of you feel the spirit of the upcoming seasons as we get
spooked, eat too much turkey and cranberry sauce, sing those Christmas carols and
bake those cookies!
Elizabeth – Can’t wait to see you at the Thanksgiving Day Cruise! I hope there’s going to
be a lot of pumpkin pie!
Lewis – I also hope there’s a lot of pumpkin pie and for the Halloween cruise next year I
hope there’s a lot of candy! Goodbye! Oh, and Oreos, Oreos, I hope there’s Oreos at the
next NOTS Cruise! ...and for the Thanksgiving cruise I say, “Turkeys, turkeys I hope
there’s turkeys!“ ... and for Christmas time I say, “Presents, presents I hope there’s pre-
sents!” And, of course, I hope everyone will have dinghy rides at the next cruise because
I love dinghy rides!
