Father Bill’s Column
MORE DAYLIGHT, MORE COWBELL?
The daylight savings “spring
forward, fall backward” practice
brings us this weekend to what many of us call
an “extra hour”. We mostly turn the clocks
back right before bedtime Saturday, though
technically it is not effective until 2:00 AM. I
don’t stay up for that…If anyone does, enjoy
yourself. Hope that means you went to the
4:00 PM Vigil or will sleep in for 11:00 AM at
St. Martin’s or really sleep in and attend
7:00PM at St. Thomas.
Lately I’ve been watching the digital
timers in the recording studio where my
engineer, Alan has pretty much finished the
“mixing” phase of post-production. The levels
of each channel can be raised or lowered to
create a sound where the support/background
sound, instruments and vocals are balanced
with lead vocals and instrument solos.
On Saturday Night Live years ago, Will
Ferrell played a 1970’s percussionist recording
a song who plays a mean cowbell. The song’s
producer keeps asking for “more cowbell.”
That has become a regular punch-line for Alan
and myself. Though in this case it’s sleigh bell!
Actually, the instruments by some of our
local music-makers are adding amazing sounds
to this production: With Dave & Felicia on cello,
guitar & bodhran (an Irish drum), Laura Lawless
on trumpet and Matt Sperber & Crikwater on
all things Celtic, who needs cowbell???
VETERAN’S DAY MASS – CHURCH BELLS!
We are so grateful to all those who con-
tributed to the renovation of the bell tower at
St. Thomas Aquinas. This Thursday at 6:30PM
we invite you to a Mass that will remember
Msgr. Bill Gallagher on his second anniversary.
Which happens to be Veteran’s Day. And
thanks to all who have served our country in
the armed services in the past – as well as
those in the present!
Peace, Fr. Bill
Sacrificial Offering
St. Thomas Aquinas
Week of October 31: $3996
Please be advised that the Diocese of Buffalo has
provided NEW COVID REGULATIONS for all those
attending Mass. Until further notice, all must wear
masks upon entering and leaving the church, as well as
when approaching to receive communion. Social dis-
tancing must be observed.
Both St. Martin of Tours and St.
Thomas Aquinas are now scheduling
Baptisms. Baptisms will again take
place after the 4 PM Mass on Saturday or after the 10
AM (STA) or 11 AM (SMT) Mass on Sunday. Please call the
parish office to begin the process and set a date.
Planning a Wedding
Couples should contact the pastor, Fr. Bill Quinlivan (823-
7077) to make arrangements for their wedding. He will
get you started on the procedures needed to be followed
to be married in the Catholic church.
Letter of Recommendation
A Letter of Recommendation to act as a sponsor for the
sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation can only be issued
to parishioners who have been registered a minimum of six
months and who regularly attend Mass and receive the
sacraments. Regular use of church envelopes indicates
attendance at Mass. Call the parish office for more
information.

Road to Renewal News
Plans for the formation of Families of
Parishes as part of the Diocese of
Buffalo’s Road to Renewal are moving
forward and the parishes of South Buffalo will be in the
forefront of the process as a pilot group. The cluster that
will be formed will include St. Martin of Tours, St. Thomas
Aquinas, St. Teresa, and Our Lady of Charity (St.
Ambrose and Holy Family sites). In the next several
months, representatives of the parishes will be meeting
and planning ways that all the parishes can work
together to share resources, strengthen the faith life of
parishioners, and minister to the South Buffalo community.
Please pray for the success of this important endeavor.
