But what is Internet Governance?
The 2005 United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) defined “Internet Governance” as:
[…] the development and application by governments, the private sector and civil society, in their respective roles, of shared principles, norms, rules, decision-making procedures, and programmes that shape the evolution and use of the Internet.

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF)
• A key WSIS outcome: a platform to discuss and identify solutions and best practices for Internet policy issues
• Regional and national IGF initiatives have been launched in at least 9 regions and 19 countries
• African IGF next week!
• IGF 2015: João Pessoa, Brazil, 10-13 November 2015
• Characteristics: Neutral for all stakeholders => working towards best practices and policy options
• The IGF’s five-year mandate is up for renewal in 2015 (to be discussed in context WSIS Review)
