Definitions
For this competition, materials in scope are:• Graphene• Graphene oxide• doped or functionalised graphene
![Page 13: Advancing the Commercial Applications of Graphene](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070520/58f273d81a28ab912a8b45a5/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Scope
Focused on Applications• characterisation / manufacturing / scale-up in scope as part of a project looking at
an application
Commercial potential• Aim for improvements in performance compared to current materials performance• 1-to-1 drop-in replacements a harder sell
Multi-functional• Exploit the properties of graphene to improve upon 2 or more performance
characteristics
![Page 14: Advancing the Commercial Applications of Graphene](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070520/58f273d81a28ab912a8b45a5/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Scope, functionality
performance characteristics (not exhaustive!):• structural• electrical• optical• thermal• selective permeability• ease/speed of manufacture • ease of use• durability• flexibility
![Page 15: Advancing the Commercial Applications of Graphene](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070520/58f273d81a28ab912a8b45a5/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Scope, examples
Examples:
• feasibility of a protective coating using graphene, which shows improved wear properties as well as use as an electrical or thermal conductor to heat the coated surface, would be in scope
• if this coating replaced a current expensive CVD coating process with a faster, cheaper spray-coating process, then this would be included as a processing benefit
• graphene in a transparent conductor replacement must show at least two benefits, such as improved transparency and conductivity, or improved transparency and flexibility
