Predictive Services Discussion: The unusually large, hot ridge of high pressure over the West and Great
Plains will continue to intensify. Hot conditions are expected across most of the west along with scattered
thunderstorms. Humidity levels will generally be very low except across the southern Great Basin and the
Southwest where monsoonal flow will keep conditions muggy. Scattered showers and storms are expected
across the Southeast as a cold front slowly drifts southward into the Deep South. In Alaska, the ridge of high
pressure over the interior will begin to flatten as a disturbance moves east along the Arctic Coast. Isolated
showers and storms will be possible across the Brooks Range and the Alaska Range.

It’s 1400…you have been working all morning. How far away have your safety zones
become? Safety zones are only good if you can reach them. How long will your escape
route take? What is the condition of the crew? How long will it take your slowest member
to get there? Are your expectations realistic?
Look at the times below…if your fire blew up right now, can you and every member of your
crew make it to your safety zone?
