More people die from lack of clean water and sanitation each year than are killed by all forms
of violence, including war
By 2030, the global NEED for water will exceed the global SUPPLY of water by 40 percent
WHY WATER?
Approximately 40% of all rivers in the U.S. and 46% of all lakes have become so polluted that
they are no longer fit for human use
GLOBALLY
EVEN IN THE U.S.
California only has 20 years of fresh water left

WHY GANGES?
400 million residents rely on the Ganges for water, food, bathing, and
worship In 2007, the Ganges was rated one of the top 5 most polluted rivers in the world
One segment of the river was found to contain fecal coliform levels over 100 times the
official limits set by the Indian government
Water shortages have a major impact on the human and animal inhabitants along
the river, with the average depth in some areas diminishing from 60 down to 10 meters
deep
Pollution not only threatens humans, but also 140 fish species, 90 amphibians and the
Ganges Dolphin or the Blind Dolphin
