Intoduction and its background
Language is a tool people use to shape ideas and to communicate them to others.
English is an international language. It is at present one of the leading languages of the world. It has been adopted as a second language by Asian countries one of which is the Philippines where it is a medium of instruction in many secondary schools.
The academic performance of students in English is sometimes affected by some factors. The home is also contributing factor to the student’s performance. It has a great influence on the achievement of an individual.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents as to – Sex– Age– Number of Siblings– Educational attainments of parents– Employment status of parents– Average family income
• 2. Do the independent variables such as in the Problem 1 significantly relate to the level of academic performance?
•3. How does the independent variable affect the academic performance of first year students in English
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Students- will benefit in this study because it provides them the facts and realities on the different factors that influence their learning performance in English
Teacher - This study would enable him to determine the factors affecting the low performance of his students.
Parents - -This study would make them aware of their time and attention to their children is still needed by their children
Administration- They would be aware of the student’s problems so that they can consider other factors in resolving it.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
METHOD OF STUDY
The researcher utilized descriptive method of research in order to determine the level of Academic Performance in English of First Year High school Students of Obando National High school as correlated variables such as sex, age, socio economic status, educational attainment of parents, and field of interest.
Respondents
The respondents of this study were first year students at Obando National High School at Paliwas, Obando, Bulacan School year 2011-2012.
Instrument use
The main instrument used in this study is questionnaire. To enrich the data gathered, interview and documentary analysis were likewise used.
Documentary analysis
The documents which were analyzed by the researchers included student’s report card, form- 137 A, grading sheets as well as the class records of the respondent’s subject’s teachers
Treatment of dataThe data gathered from the
questionnaire were tallied, analyzed and statistically treated by employing the following statistical tools

Majority of the student’s respondents ranged from 13 years of age. Female students predominated over the male in number
In terms of academic performance in English, most of the respondents have average performance in English; most of the respondents have average performance signifying that most student respondents have average intellectual capacity in learning English
Result
The findings of the study shows that factors often times influence the students. The result also reveals that home factors, such as the educational attainment, occupational and socio economic status have no significant influence on the academic performance of students in English.
Conclusion
ConclusionThe findings of the
study show that the selected variables such as the sex, age number of siblings, employment status of parents, educational attainment of parents and socio economic status have no significant influence on the academic performance in English.
RECOMMENDATION
• Teacher should patiently motivate the students to have better accomplishments and to facilitate learning well on the use of English language in the world around them.
Parents are encouraged to assists in their children’s school needs and learning exercises given as assignment to them by teacher, give some time to check on their school activities, a monthly visit to school preferably every grading period to see the performance of their children
Most of all students They should change their study habits, renew their views in life and modify their values towards studies to achieve high performance in English and deficiency in learning English will be minimized.
