PROJECT SCOPEThe studio was tasked with designing a modern high school for an existing charter school campus. Flexible learning environments were structured around modular classrooms walls and break-out spaces. Security, way-finding and environmental analysis were considered in the building design. Model making throughout the process helped create the building form and illustrate major site characteristics.

PROJECT SCOPETasked with adaptively re-using an existing street car maintenance facility into a unique light manufacturing headquarters, this project took direction from the ecclectic array of personalized doors and entryways. The building design incorporates a design studio, workshop, production facility, showroom and office space. The site strategy included reclaiming a portion of an existing parking lot into a public greenspace. A semi-private outdoor walkway was also created to improve pedestrian comfort along a narrow, busy corridor.

PROJECT SCOPEGraduate design studio project with International Students to create a modern office building for a computer programming company. The final design illustrated concepts geothermal energy harvesting, natural ventilation and strategic space planning. The most difficult and rewarding aspect of this project was the collaboration and comprimise between 5 group members from different corners of the world. In total, we spent one semester abroad studying graduate level Architectural Engineering, Architectural History and Building Materials Science.

HARBORING PRESERVATION: RE-THINKING CASTLE PINCKNEY

stronghold Castle Pinckney, Shutes Folly Island,
Charleston, SC
PROJECT SCOPEThe final graduate design and research project, this design competition was a year-long study to answer a single decree - Rethink the abandoned early 19th century fort on Shutes Folly Island.
Through a minimalistic approach, this project offers simple and clean design solutions to Shute’s Folly Island and Castle Pinckney. The design and concept for the boat exhibition and transportation system is creative and advantageous for the city of Charleston and its visitors. The introduction of the groin walls is a successful preservation strategy, as they allow the island to remain and grow, crucial to protecting the site.

PROJECT SCOPEA collaboration with Matt Kelty, RA and principal at Kelty Tappy Design, to develop a proposal for a new fire station and local memorial for fallen fire fighters in Fortville, Indiana. Traditionally, this site served as a volunteer outpost. But growth in the surrounding community required a full-time headquarters for the Vernon and Hancock Townships.

SCOPE As lead architectural draftsman and Job Captain, I worked closely with architect and owner Kelly Good on the design details and execution of the construction documents. Meeting strict deadlines, researching building materials, and working with engineers and local code officials to resolve complex issues, this project was a big success for the client and myself. This project helped improve my confidence with major decisions and executing final documents in a short time frame. Rendering was created by teammate Linda Kelly and myself.
