ABOUT SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Bend-‐‑La Pine Schools Special Programs Department implements all special education, 504, health services, and home tutoring programs. We serve approximately 2,000 students (11% of student population) in special education programs and offer a full continuum of services throughout the district. Each school provides a resource setting and most schools offer life-‐‑skills programming. Additionally, we offer K-‐‑12 off-‐‑campus social-‐‑emotional programming, ABA programing for students with autism, and a transition program for students aged 18 – 21 years. Bend-‐‑La Pine Schools implemented a systematic RtI programming (EBISS) in 2010, which has resulted in a significant decrease of students identified with specific learning disabilities and communication disorder. THE COMMUNITY
Bend-‐‑La Pine Schools, located in Deschutes County in the heart of Oregon, serves one of the fastest growing communities in the state. More than 17,500 students from the Bend, Sunriver, and La Pine areas are served by our schools. The district enjoys exceptional community support. With the highest percentage “yes” vote in history, the community passed a bond in May 2013 to build new middle and elementary schools and complete nearly 150 maintenance and preservation projects in schools across the district. Nestled at the base of the Cascade Mountain Range, the district borders alpine forests and the high desert. The area is well known for its 300+ days of sunshine a year, making it a great place to live and work. From its agricultural and forest product roots, the Bend community has grown into the commercial, medical, educational, and cultural center for the region. It serves as home to Mt Bachelor Ski Resort, St. Charles Medical Center, Central Oregon Community College, and the Oregon State University -‐‑Cascades Campus.
