Andrea is a true blue country girl, who has lived in Simpson nearly all of her life. Country music was
always played in the home and Andrea developed a love for it. Her parents gave her a 12-stringed guitar when she was 15 years old, and she has played one
ever since. By her own admission, her experience with public appearances is limited, but then she has a pretty busy home life. She and husband Jack have had four
children, who have spread their wings as most children do. Andrea and Jack own a dairy farm in Cooriemungle, milking over 200 cows twice a day, which must be pretty grim in this current weather. They are also very involved
in football and Andrea has only recently resigned as Secretary of the Simpson Football Club. She enjoys a wide range of music and thinks one of the best things
about it “is the friends you make along the way”. She is really looking forward to being here tonight and would like to thank the Ballarat CMAV for giving her this op-portunity to entertain us again. She has a rich, strong
voice, and a delightful personality. Andrea has released one CD simply called “Home” which makes for very
pleasant listening, and will be available tonight.
Let us give her a very warm welcome. .

BRIAN LETTON IN CONCERT Brian Letton is often referred to as Australia's No.1 Crooner, and
anyone who has heard his lovely voice, would certainly agree. So it is good to learn that he has been using his time away from touring to write and record songs that have a special meaning for him. This al-
bum will be the first one that he has produced on his own label "Brian Letton Recordings" It will be so good. As luck will have it, Brian is
coming our way very soon: Date: Saturday, 29th of October, 2016.
Venue: Victoria Bowling Club,231 Victoria St. Ballarat. Time: Evening will start at 7.00pm
Cost: $20.00 per person BYO supper, drinks at bar prices, tea, coffee and bikkies available For further information, the contact number is 0428 391 917.
Some special dates of interest - August always seems to be a busy
month for birthdays, etc and I would just like to make mention of a cou-
ple of special ones. Alan Severino has turned 80 - and Alan and Jenny
have celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary. Jenny's birthday is also
in August, along with Alan Dawson, Alma Earl-Davis, Grant Dick, Joan
Dickens , Marje Trahar, Judith Jones, Ron Kirkman, Marilyn Jennings.
and Margaret Jennings, Barb Spence, Marlene Plater and TODAY is
Dottie Stowe. Just last Sunday afternoon, Verna Mayne celebrated her
80th birthday with family and friends at The Mercure on Main Road. It
was a surprise for Verna who delightfully kept saying, "oh my goodness,
I didn't think that I had so many friends." Congratulations to each and
everyone of you for your special days.
There has also been a wedding this month of two of our members
and we wish them well. More details next month.

MIDLANDS GOLF CLUB I have been told on a few occasions that every Friday night at the above Club,
there is really good musical entertainment. So I contacted Kelly Linton who organises these weekly functions. For those , like me, who needed more
information, I now have the following details: 1st Friday of the month - The Decades.
2nd Friday of the month - Mantel. 3rd Friday of the month - Ricky Lee.
4th Friday of the month - Barry Bishop. On Friday 26th of this month, Russell Erwin will be filling in for Barry
Bishop. Russell is well known and very supportive at our CMAV Club. He has been a guest artist more than once , and often will perform as a
walk-up artist. It will be a good night. Entrance is free & meals are available. For further info, contact Kelly at Midlands Golf Club on-5332 6242.
RODNEY VINCENT I expect that most avid country music fans will know and have seen Rodney Vincent. He is an amazing performer, but he has worked long and hard to
reach the standing that he now enjoys on the Australian entertainment scene. He got his first big break on "New Faces" from where he moved on to being
special guest for many well-known celebs like The Four Kinsmen, The Delltones, Rolf Harris, Freddie and the Dreamers, and so the list goes on.!He
also teamed up with Col Elliott and added comedy to his routine. He also toured with Gene Pitney on Gene's last three Australian Tours.
Now we can see and hear him right here in Ballarat. It will be part of his farewell tour because he is "hanging up his guitar."
WHERE: Victoria Bowling Club, 231 Victoria Street, BALLARAT WHEN: September 9th, 2016 TIME: 7pm - 11.55pm PRICE: $20
CONTACT: Barry Ward on 0417 142 411 or 5331 3753
HELPING THE FARMERS I really like this story. It is about a young lady by the name of Phoebe Jay. She
was born in Townsville but now lives close to the cane fields of Bundaberg. She is a graduate of the 2014 CMAA Academy of Country Music and she is the
2015 Gympie Music Muster Talent Search Winner. She wanted to raise awareness, from the perspective of a young person, to understand why
farmers are paid well below the production cost of producing milk. So she has written a song called "14 Cents At The Gate", encouraging the public to buy local brands of milk and hoping that common sense will prevail and give the farmers a fair go!!! She looks forward to doing more positive things in the
future for the farmers of Australia. Why do I like this story? Phoebe Jay is just 14 years old!!!

REMINDER - RECENT CLUB CHANGES - PLEASE TAKE NOTE
When you renew your Annual Subscription your card will be signed by one of two designated Committee members. This signed card must then be presented when you pay to come in. Just make sure that you have your
membership card with you on every club night. Again, if you are genuinely unable to find your card, please let Dennis know and we will have a re-placement card for you by the next club evening. Help us to help you.
Here are the details again:
1. Annual Subscriptions - to remain at. $5.00 2. Members - $7.00 admission fee.
3. Non-members - $10.00 admission fee.
These changes are not complicated but it does mean that you MUST HAVE your MEMBERSHIP CARD with you on every club night. Thank you for your
co-operation. If you help us then we can help you.
With winter beginning it's seemingly long haul, a few members are already not able to come to our Club nights because of the extreme weather
conditions. Though this will probably not suit everyone, these changes are now in place.
CHANGE in the STARTING and FINISHING times as follows:
3.15pm - D00RS OPEN. 4.00pm - BAND kicks off the evening.
4.00pm - KITCHEN will OPEN. 4.30pm - First set of WALK-UP ARTISTS
5.30pm - Break. 5.45pm - GUEST ARTIST - 1st set.
6.30pm - Member's draw and Door prize. Break. 6.45pm - Second set of WALK-UP ARTISTS.
7.45pm - Break. 8.00pm - Urn off. Kitchen closes.
8-8.45pm - GUEST ARTIST - 2nd set. 8.45pm - RAFFLES DRAW. 9.00pm - Evening Closes.
I know that change is not easy for some and I already know that a few members are not really happy with the earlier starting times , but many think it is "awesome". Let us all give it a chance. Your Committee thanks
you. I do know that those who have long drives home are happy. Once again, thanks from your Committee.

Jilly’s Ramblings As always , a very warm welcome to those who have once again ventured out in our current weather conditions , all for the love of country music. I am fully aware that change is not always easy and I know that several members were not 100% happy with the changes put into place on our July Club evening but most think that the new times are "awesome"!!! Considering all that, more people presented than was expected, so thank you all for your loyalty and support by working with us. It certainly was a good night. I have had some great feedback about Connie Kis Andersen, and I received a lovely letter of thanks from her to say how much she enjoyed her visit to our Club and she also made comment of a very appreciative audience. Always nice to hear such positive remarks. She also asked if there was a chance that she could visit us again next year??! What are your thoughts??? Our guest artist for August is Andrea Weel, who very kindly stepped up to the mark at short notice when our designated artist was unable to be with us. Andrea is a hard- working dairy farmer. She and husband Jack lead very busy lives but Andrea still finds time for her love of country music. She has written a song dedicated to our Aussie farmers - l have asked her if she will perform it for us tonight. Please make her welcome. The Sherrahs are a 4-piece group from Adelaide, consisting of two married couples, great musicians and great singers. With the support of Bidge Boyd they presented a Country Dance at the Victoria Bowling Club on 8th of July and what a really good night it turned out to be.!!Their music was as good to listen to as it was to dance to, and they all had personalities plus. It was an evening not to be missed. Let's hope that they will visit Ballarat again in the not -too-distant future. I often refer to CMAV members as "pepper and salt" because no matter what country music venue you get to, you will almost always find somebody there from this Club of ours. So good!!! And it certainly was the case at Bellarine Country Music Group's Club night on Friday 22nd of July. at The Belmont Park Pavilion. Not a huge venue, but it comfortably held approximately 80 people. Their guest artist was Justin Standley, who never fails to please his audience, the compere was Alan Carroll, and Russell Erwin, Ivon Ferry and Laurie Treloar headed a long list of walk-up artists. Many thanks to Glenda, Russell and all others for making us so very welcome. "Scope" is an organisation set up to provide assistance and support for young people with a disability which makes it a very worthy cause. On Saturday July 30th there was a fundraiser at the Victoria Bowling Club and the amount raised was $1,434.00.This will be used to buy some musical instruments and to fund a camp for some of these deserving young people. "Sugar Belles", a musical group, kicked off the evening with singing & dancing and the playing of a few instruments. The energy was just lovely to witness.

Music really is wonderful therapy. I learned this when I was in my early days of nursing-- my Charge Sister would give me an hour off my nursing duties to play the piano, and the change was amazing- the patients just reacted so beautifully.!!! So thank you to Marlene , to the entertainers "The Prairie Dogs" and to all involved. It was all worth it. Last Tuesday Dennis and I thought we would visit Zagames on Main Road. We had been told that they have a Morning Melodies there once a month and I guess we were curious!!!! It was a good morning - their guest artist was a very entertaining Col Perkins. Zagames Manager then announced that M M would not be happening for at least the next 6-8 months because there will be fairly extensive renovations taking place! Barham Festival is over with already. Have not heard a lot of feedback, except that crowd numbers were down a little compared to other years, and "not all artists were good artists but 'others were exceptional'. I have heard that Royden Donohue was pretty popular!! I know that several of our members have seen performances by The Long and The Short of It - well they would like it known that they have just released a new Album. It is called "The Night of Our Life." There never seems to be a shortage of Country Music but some of the Festivals are quite a distance away. I will mention a few of them. Forbes C M Club hosts the Bedgerabong C M Camp Out from 4th of October - live country music in a relaxed bush setting. Artists include Jim and Pam Reeves, Amos Morris and Bill Gray. This would be a good few days!!! Bev Goggin hosts the Kerang Carnival of Music with artists like Sandie Dodd, Jimmy Johnson and Graeme Hugo. A little closer to home, on October 28th, 29th and 30th, is the St. Arnaud Country Music Festival, with Danny and Karen O'Brien, Callum Gleeson, Tracy Rains, Laurie Treloar , Robyn Gleeson and The Cartwheels. Contact-Jenny on 0427 831 613. And, of course, Mildura Festival, from 23rd Sept---2nd October. In finishing my "Ramblings" I will tell you that Jess turned 20 years of age on 4th of August. This will have no meaning for most people here but It will be of interest to a select few. The latter have known Jess since she was a little girl and I was a very new addition to the CMAV. They kept a watchful eye on her, talked to her, read to her, danced with her, listened to her passionate rav-ings about animals and space, and they encouraged her to sing with her Grandy. You were all wonderfully caring and I will always be grateful to you. There are too many to name but you know who you are and so do I. Jess is now working towards a Science degree at Monash University and so far so good. To those who are unwell, I wish you good health, and to those who are troubled and/or have suffered loss, I wish you strength and peace of mind and may you always have an Angel by your side.
YOURS IN COUNTRY, JILLY.
