GOALS OF THE SCHOOL AND CONFERENCE

INTRODUCTION

• Celebrate the Achievements and the 10th Anniversary of the EAUMP through Paper and Poster presentations of research findings by senior academics in the region and beyond.• Stimulation of regional and international collaboration in research and training.• A forum for interaction of African Mathematicians and others from the developed countries for research experience.

The Eastern Africa Universities Mathematics Programme (EAUMP) courtesy of The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the International Science Programme (ISP) of Sweden is organizing a School on Combinatorial Commutative Algebra and a second conference in Mathematics to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of EAUMP. The School and Conference will be held in Arusha, Tanzania. The school will be held from 13th – 21st August, 2012 at Arusha Technical College. The conference will be held from 22nd – 25th, August 2012 at The Palace Hotel Arusha (http://palacehotel-arusha.com/). The Conference is open to all mathematicians, mathematics educators and users of mathematics in the world.

It is intended that the School will take the audience comprising young academic staff members and advanced graduate students (M.Sc and Ph.D Students) of Mathematics from the Eastern African region and beyond. Senior academic members interested are also most welcome. Participants should preferably have completed some years of study and research after a first degree. We expect about 50 participants (including those that will be taking CREDIT EXAMS). The following countries have already expressed interest to participate: Sudan, Southern Sudan, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Eritrea, Ghana, Rwanda, Burundi, Madagascar etc.

There will be a conference registration fee of US$200. The registration fee will include tea/coffee during the breaks, lunches, excursion and conference materials. Payment of Registration fee will be done on arrival.

There will be an excursion on the afternoon of Thursday, 23-Aug-2012 to Meserani Snake Park (http://www.meseranisnakepark.com). The conference participants will have an opportunity to see a variety of reptiles common in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Research Paper and Poster presentations are expected in the following areas though not limited to: • Algebra • Mathematical Biology • Fluid Dynamics • Real and Complex Analysis • ODES and PDES • Operations Research • Topology and Geometry • Financial/Insurance Mathematics • Numerical Analysis • Dynamical Systems

• Abstract Submission : 30 April, 2012• Final Paper : 30 June, 2012• Registration (by email) : 15 July, 2012
