ManganeseI 6800 A Polar Oxide with a Large Magnetization Synthesized at Ambient Pressure. —

Bi2Mn4/3Ni2/3O6 is synthesized by reaction of Bi2O3, MnO2, and NiO in air at ambient pressure under a range of reaction conditions. According to single crystal XRD the compound crystallizes in the space group Pn21m. Refinement of neutron powder dif-fraction data reveals an essentially random distribution of Mn and Ni over the four sym-metry independent octahedral sites.
