Man in Gravelotte sterf na buffel aanval
MAN STERF NA AANVAL
Friday July 24, 2015

Namakgale Police Station spokesperson, Constable Dineo Sekgotodi said the Lulekani Magistrate Court delivered a harsh sentence last week Friday for Mahaveni Simon Malatji (38), who was sentenced for life imprisonment for raping his step daughter in February 2013.
The victim was only 13 years old when the rape occurred.

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipal Mayor Anah Sono lambasted residents for closing roads following speeding motorists having hit, killed and injured two Makhushane and Mashishimale residents recently.
Sono was speaking at Phakgamang in Haniville outside Namakgale during Mandela Day where Foskor was donating a borehole, computer and planting vegetables.
“It is already a norm that our residents will resort to closing roads once a fellow resident has died or injured due to speeding motorists. We are calling on our people to refrain from damaging public property. We had to ask Foskor to aid us to erect speed humps at Makhushane,” she said.
Sono added that negotiations are on-going with Mashishimale residents while the construction of speed humps is in progress.
“We ought to take care of ourselves as pedestrians on the roads, but motorists have to obey the rules on the roads. We tried to put a 60km/h and a camera caution on the Makhushane road, but motorists still disobeyed regulations. Schools will be reopening on Monday and one wonders how vehicles will be able to move while the road is still closed,” explained Sono.
The Mayor described Nelson Mandela as a distinguished, intelligent and disciplined
leader who rose from ANC structures.“It has come to our attention off late that
some of our people are slowly forgetting where we come from as a country. We constantly need to remind our people that our country had a terrible past, but today women are no longer adding number as they are traditional leaders and occupy strategic positions in our society,” she noted.
Sono thanked retired Matron, Malehu Nkoenyane, Phakgamang’s founding member for having answered to former President Thabo Mbeki’s ‘Vuka u Zenzele’ call.
“Mama Nkoenyane didn’t become selfi sh upon retiring and continued caring for her community like she did while still working as a nurse. May others take example of her traits and be the change they want to see in their communities,” remarked Sono.
Foskor’s Vice President James Morotoba thanked the Mayor for having attended the event and wished Phakgamang greater things ahead.
“Our hope is that residents will come and support the centre by buying fresh vegetables and jealously guard against vandalism of the borehole,” he said.
Phakgamang board member, Bankuna Nkuna says the borehole and computer donated by Foskor will help the centre to execute its duties effectively.
Teen druktyd was die begrafnisreëlings
nog nie bekend nie.

Mashishimale residents went on a rampage blocking and digging the main road after a speeding taxi driver hit a teenager and left her in a critical condition last week Wednesday.
The taxi driver whose identity is known to Phalaborwa Herald is said to have hit the teenager next to Stonkhane bar lounge at around 18:00 and fl ed the crime scene and within a couple off minutes residents had infested the area.
Mashishimale Unemployment Forum and community leader, Caster Mashele said the Municipality and provincial Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure department have intentionally ignored their plight for many years.
“It is more than a decade since the road has been narrowed and it is no longer a two-way road and two buses cannot move on this road while four people have passed on and many hit and runs have occurred on this road in the past two years, but the Municipality kept on promising us they will come and attend to it,” said Mashele.
Mashele said they have decided to close the road pending around 26 speed humps to be erected on the 4km stretch road.
Another resident, Tumi Mnisi said it is already a norm that the ANC led government only attends to community needs when a life has been lost.
“It was many years that Makhushane residents complained about a need for speed humps on their main road, but the Municipality only intervened after the road was blocked. We have taken that path seeing that our government only cares when there is chaos,” he said.
Neo Pilusa says residents are always terrifi ed when going to shops along the road while Mabine Primary School learners cannot cross the road unsupervised as motorists are always speeding.
During an urgent meeting last week Thursday attended by Namakgale Police Station Crime Prevention head, Major Maphea Maake, Phalaborwa Public Works, Road and Infrastructure offi cials Erick Khoza and Margaret Mabulana, ward 8 councillor Khensani Mohamane, Exco member councillor Mariam Malatji on behalf of Mayor Anan Sono who failed to pitch, community leaders Caster Mashele and Tebogo Mashale and the taxi association; it was agreed that construction of speed humps will begin on Friday morning.
Two speed humps were erected by 10:00 on Tuesday while the road was still blocked.
The teenager was still in a critical, but stable condition at Mankweng Hospital at the time of going to print and word is that the taxi driver has already visited her family and offered his sincerely apology for the accident and the stress his actions have caused the family.
Municipal spokesperson Jonas Mahesu on Monday said technical offi cials are busy erecting the speed humps, but he is uncertain as to when they will complete.
“Yes, we are aware that the road has narrowed and it is a big inconvenience to residents and motorists, but the road belongs to the province,” he said.

It is said that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. This is one of the reasons why the Phalaborwa community along with the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTHs) annually commemorate The Battle of Delville Wood.
The battle took place between July 14 and September 3, 1916, during the First World War. It was fought between the German army and allied British and Empire forces and took place in Northern France.
The battle is considered to have been a tactical Allied victory, though both sides suffered terrible losses. The
battle is of particular importance to South Africa as it was the fi rst major engagement entered into by the South African First Infantry Brigade on the Western Front. The casualties sustained by this brigade were of catastrophic proportions, with 80% of the brigade lost.
Despite this, they courageously managed to hold the Wood as ordered.
Delville Wood is now a well-preserved woodland. The remains of the original trenches are visible, and it contains a museum and a monument to the fallen South Africans.

Verlede jaar is 45 230 strafsake teen kinders aangemeld.
Wees ‘n held

Forty impoverished families were benefi ciaries of food parcels at Lesedi Drop in Centre in Namakgale last week Monday.
Lesedi’s manager, Xoli Lekgau said their initial objective was to aid HIV/AIDS patients who are currently not receiving a government grant.
“We extended our aid to needy and vulnerable children and families from areas such as Humulani, Lulekani, Namakgale, Makhushane, Maseke, Mashishimale and Selwane with our main theme being make everyday a Mandela Day,” she said.
Lekgau added that they partnered with MCSA Global Fund and will continue being a catalyst for change and development within the length and breadth of the Municipality.
The ceremony was graced by Mopani ANC Chairperson and Local Economic Development Environment and Tourism MEC, Seaparo Sekoati, Municipal Chief Whip Lucky Mohlala, Exco member Alinah Peta, ward 4 councillor Rose Popela, Social Development representatives and Lesedi’s board members.
Sekoati urged Ba-Phalaborwa residents to adopt centres such as Lesedi and help them on a daily basis.
“We have many poor families in our region and Ba-Phalaborwa as whole. It is your duty as ordinary citizens, government offi cials, private sector and politicians to open your hearts and extend your hands where it matters the most,” he said.

DIVORCE: Some of the Phalaborwa A orneys Associa on members. Memory Mathonsi, Harry Maake, Sindile Sonyana, Phillip Maponya, Khorombi Masengane, Gray Mafogo, Levy Ndlovu and Vincent Mongwe.
DIVORCE: Regional Magistrate for the Regional Division of Limpopo, Advocate Doctor Nkuna and Phalaborwa Magistrate Court interpreter Gethrude Morema during the offi cially launch of the Phalaborwa Regional civil and divorce courts last week Friday.
A new path has been created for the legal heavyweights and lightweights within Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality after the civil and divorce courts were offi cially launched at Phalaborwa Magistrate last week Friday.
Speaking during the launch, the Regional Magistrate for the Regional Division of Limpopo, Advocate Doctor Nkuna said the new courts will reduce travelling logistics for Phalaborwa residents and having to wait for months or even years to get their decree of divorce while some even dying without having actually divorced even when they had long separated and got remarried to other people.
Nkuna said Divorce Courts were later established for various regions throughout the whole country.
“Our Divorce Court was called North Eastern Divorce Court and it was based in Lebowakgomo and it was better than before in Pretoria, but it was still far for Phalaborwa residents,” he said.
Nkuna added that the Jurisdiction of Regional Courts Amendments Act No. 31, 2008 amended the Magistrates Courts Act, 1994 conferred on courts for regional division jurisdiction in respect of certain civil disputes, including matters which were regulated by section 10 of the Administration Amendment Act, 1929.
“The adjudication of certain civil and divorce matters was also extended to Regional Courts. Tzaneen as our sub-division was designated as a place of issuing. The Regional Court civil and divorce matters were adjudicated at Tzaneen which meant that people from Phalaborwa had to travel to Tzaneen,” explained Nkuna.
He added that they were three Regional Court Magistrates in Tzaneen sub-division.
“Our initial arrangement was that I would do criminal matters on Mondays and Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursday at Lulekani and Phalaborwa respectively and that I would do civil and divorce matters at Tzaneen on Fridays,” he noted.
Nkuna concluded by saying that they have identifi ed offi ce number 38 in the Regional Court building at Phalaborwa as the offi ce that will be used by the Assistant Register and for obtaining further information and it will be up and running effectively from 1 August 2015.

BN Ntsanwisi Primary School at Majeje recently received schools uniforms, shoes and food parcels from the Phalaborwa Police Station’s Criminal Record and Crime scene Management.
The event’s organizer, Warrant Offi cer Lenny Rikhotso said it is one of their duties as men and women in blue to not only ensure safety and security for residents, but of great importance is to show children that police offi cers are also human beings like them.
“We chose this school because many learners are coming from child-headed families while others their parents are unemployed and depends on the state’s social welfare as a means of generating income,” she said.
Rikhotso is confi dent that the school uniforms and shoes will bring back a sense of pride and confi dence in many of the learners whilst playing a critical role in their level of concentration in the classrooms.

Phalaborwa Community Radio Station in partnership with Clinix Phalaborwa Private Hospital brought smiles to over 230 Maseke Drop in Centre children on Saturday.
Phalaborwa FM’s Station Manager, Sello Lepedi said it is the station’s custom to annually select one drop in centre within the Municipality to spend a day with it and donates food parcels and clothes.
The station’s board Chairperson; Matome Lebea encouraged residents to generously give to the poor on a daily basis.
“Let us not wait for Mandela Day to care for the less fortunate, but extend beyond this day as we are not residing in an island, but within a community,” he said.
Clinix Phalaborwa Private Hospital Marketing Manager, Virnicia Mathebula humbly requested residents to use their services to enable the institution to keep on
helping the poor.“We allocated R10 000 for buying
food parcels and making this day a success it was and we are humbled to have brought some smiles to our children and we are hoping to keep on helping other communities,” she said. The Drop in Centre’s Project Manager, Maina Malatji said they established the centre in 2005 and currently caters for 172 orphans.
“We always struggle to receive funds from Social Development as they normally pay us after every three months and this donation will go a long way in ensuring that our children are adequately fed and taken care of. The department says it can only cater for 100 children whereas poverty is rife in our village as we normally have more than 230 children visiting us daily,” she noted.
Malatji added that Maseke Community Property Association has been very helpful throughout dark
days and wished that Phalaborwa FM and its partners could grow further and help other needy centres.
Phalaborwa FM’s Marketing Manager, Ditaba “DJ Eddie Crook” thanked all sponsors including Clinix Phalaborwa Private Hospital, Ntokozo Maphanzela from PJ’S Fried & Grilled Restaurant, Lulekani Spar, Professional Driving School’s Mama Peggy Mkhonto, Twizza, Samreu Security Services, Leswika Rabalao of Raba Training Enterprises, Spanny Ngoatje for providing jumping castles, Makasela Air and Amazing Grace Bakery from Lulekani. Mokgadi Malatji, a grade 2 pupil at Maseke Primary School recited a poem embracing Tata Madiba while Ba-Phalaborwa Tswelopele Youth Production entertained the mass with their artistic plays. Good Samaritans are encouraged to call Maina Malatji on 0710607234.

Throughout the morning, more than 60 people visited the centre situated in Copper Road to make use of the free services rendered to the community for Mandela Day and also to spend time with the animals. Volunteers spent the morning walking dogs and petting cats, all in the name of a good cause.
Permanent volunteer Jason Lin says: “I
visit the centre every week and it is very sad that there are so many dogs and cats that have been here for a very long time and need to be adopted. We try to keep them happy, but they need homes.”
In further support of the community, the Phalaborwa SPCA unveiled their brand new mobile clinic which will go out into areas where very little veterinary services are available. The mobile clinic had its beginnings as a humble caravan but was rebuilt by Ian Smith with support from AHTAK Engineering Services and Charlie Hartman from Unicorn Trojan donated the air conditioner.

Makhushane Naughty Boys’s display during the Corner Couch top 8 tournament resonated with their name as they walloped neighbours Celtics three zero on Sunday.
Naughty Boys’s netted two goals in the fi rst stanza through the industrious and tricky left footed and multi-talented Khomotso Shokane and speedy forward Lincon Malungane.
Despite Celtics having resurrected in the second half using their central midfi elders and wingers, Shokane ensured that his side scooped R3500 while Celtics went home with R2000 as his late third goal was a well worked team effort leaving Celtics defence exposed.
Shokane and his teammate Marvin Malatji, the short central defender were the tournament’s most outstanding players even drawing former Mopani District Municipality’s Sports, Arts and Culture portfolio Chairperson and current Ba-Phalaborwa ANC Sub-Regional Deputy Secretary Aubrey Ngobeni’s attention.
“We need scouts to visit the village as talent is widespread. We had many great players in the past failing to show their
talents to the country and the rest of the continent due to lack of exposure and the current crop of players needs our support as leaders to help them realise their dreams of playing professional football,” explained Ngobeni.
Naughty boys only conceded two goals throughout the tournament that started two weeks ago having beaten Madrid 2-1 in the fi rst game and drew 1-1 with Malaga during the semi-fi nals and won 4-3 via penalties on Saturday.
The tournament was organized an ex professional player and Mamelodi Sundowns Teko Modise’s friend, Mashoto Malesa, Nyame Nkoane and Corner Cough’s owner Kenneth “Kenny” Sekwela.
“Our main aim is to revive soccer within our village at the same time bringing up solidarity for our village’s sections like we used to do in the past. We had seven clubs from the village and only one from Maseke,” said Nkoane.
Malaga demolished Blue birds 3-0 during loser’s fi nals and went home with R1000 while Blue Birds were consoled with R700. All Nations, Dinoko, Madrid and Selati had little to offer, but their participation managed to draw hundreds of soccer lovers.
