A guide to booking your IELTS Test
In this guide we’ll take you step by step through booking your IELTS test using the British Council’s
new and improved registration portal.
Step 1:
Select the IELTS module you would like
to take.

Using the drop down menu, select the
country you would like to take your test
in.
Let us know if you need any
special arrangements on the day
by selecting No or Yes.
If you would like to know more about how we
support special requirements, click on ‘Read
about how we can help you’.
Select the month you would sit
the IELTS Test.
Click on choose location, and then select the
location from the drop down list.

Tick the location you would like to sit
for the test. Note you can choose
more than one.
Now click on search for tests.
Note: at this stage you can go back and change your
country or dates if you are not happy with what you
see. Just click on: ‘Change country or dates’.
A pop up window will appear displaying available
Test dates. You can select by date or location.
Click on the Test date you would like to choose.
A pop up window will appear displaying the
chosen venue where the Test will take place (this
may not be applicable to all countries).
Select ‘Book test’

You will now see a pop up window showing:
Your chosen type of Test
The fee for the Test
The Test date
The Test venue
Next you need to choose your
Speaking Test.
You will now see available Speaking
Tests.

Step 10:
Select a suitable Speaking Test date for
you and click on ‘Continue booking’.
Please note: You can go back and
change the date of Written Test if you
are not happy with what you see. Just
click on: ‘Change date of written test’.
You will now get a pop up to log into the
Test Taker portal. If you have an account,
enter your username and password. If you
don’t, click on ‘I’m not registered’ to set up
an account.

Step 11:
To set up your account, enter your details.
You must also create a password.
Please note: you must be at least 18 years
old to set up an account.
Select your email marketing preferences,
read the terms and conditions, and click on
I agree.
Then press the blue button to register.
You are now able to log into the account.
Note: The timer as now started. This
indicates the amount of time you have to
complete the transaction for the dates
chosen. You are given 25 minutes to
complete your registration.

You will now see the Test dates
and location you have already
selected.
Click on book test
to continue.
Select who you are
booking the test
for.

are automatically populated.
Fill in your address details and
click ‘Add ID’.

‘Add additional details’.
Select your gender.

nationality and education.
Then click on ‘Add additional
details’.

required about your
occupation. Then click on

Select why you are taking
the IELTS Test from the
drop down menu. Then click
‘Add receiving organisation’.
At this stage you can add a
receiving organisation to
send your results to. This is
an optional step and you
can choose to this at a later
date.
Choose your option and
click on ‘Review my
application’.

Review your application and
ensure the details are
correct.
Check the remaining
information. If correct, click
on the IELTS terms and
conditions and accept them
to continue.
Then click on ‘Payment’.

Step 24:
The fee for your Test will be
displayed.
Select who you would like
the invoice to be sent to and
enter the details.

Step 25:
Select your method
of payment.
If you select pay online,
you’ll be taken to a secure
payment site.
Fill in your credit card
details and click on ‘pay’.

Alternatively, you can select pay
another way.
You can arrange to pay by bank
transfer.
Note: on the payslip ensure you
include the following information:
Full name of the candidate
Exams date
IELTS reference number
Once the payment has been received by either online payment or bank transfer, you will receive an email
confirmation of your registration for IELTS.
