2x 6305 bearings are situated after the pulley. This allows for greater fan-belt torque without the danger of damage to the alternator interior parts. A 3rd 6201 bearing is used on the opposite side of the shaft for rotor stability. “See Figure 1”
No internal relays for self-exciting. Self-excitation is achieved electronically and magnetically. This has an indefinite shelf
life.
An hour meter is located inside the back plate of the alternator. This may only be read by an authorised repairer and is
generally used to determine any warranty disputes.
Main Features
1. Front Bearings
2. Self-Exciting
3. Internal Hour Meter

An innovated mounting has been designed to alleviate difficulty in replacing an existing alternator with the MAE
Alternator. With this bracket, the hardship of aligning the fan-belt has been removed. 3 types of brackets are available:
Fan- belt driven. “See Figure 5”
Hydraulic driven. “See Figure 6”
Fan-belt bas mount. “See Figure 7”

There is a choice of 2 cable entry covers:
Back Entry. “See Figure 8”
Side Entry. “See Figure 9”
i. No mechanical parts or replaceable fuses (relays, mechanical switches etc.), all solid electronics used.
ii. Alternator will shut down if any of the protection faults occur.
iii. Protection enclosed in alternator.
iv. No danger of having to protect wiring from alternator to external protection box.
v. Resetting is achieved via remote control (infra-red).
vi. Portable infra-red diagnostics alternator tester and resetting encoder.
vii. Resetting can be conducted on site under controlled supervision without the need to open any enclosures.
viii. 3 stage slow star up to safe guard the bulbs and all other electronic equipment during initiation of the
alternator.
ix. Integrate with MAE fault injector (see under “Fault Injector”).
x. On start up the alternator has an Under Voltage Lock Out that requires a minimum of 8V before the output
becomes live, this is required to guarantee integrity of all the output so that the MAE Telli© System can detect
all possible faults 100% accurately.
xi. Internal hour meter, this can be read with the MAE diagnostic box.

The alternator will continually monitor for any fault.
If any of the protections occur, the alternator will automatically shut down. The alternator will only continue to
operate once reset.
The short circuit will detect and shut down if there is a rise in load which exceeds the set alternator output.
The alternator will detect and shut down if either the positive or negative of the alternator output make contact
with the body of the machine.
If the alternators voltage exceeds 15.5V the alternator will shut down. This will safe guard all the machines
electrical equipment.
The alternator will shut down if it exceeds 110°C.
The overload protection will ensure that the alternator wattage rating is not exceeded.
Earth leakage & short circuit can be read via the infra-red diagnostic box up to ± 3Mt from the end plate of the
alternator.
The reset is achieved by means of infra-red. ± 3Mt
Voltage output will only vary by 0.3V from 0 output to full output.
To prolong the life of the bulbs, the alternator will start charging at 8V then 10V and finally to maximum voltage
in 500m/s.
The above is accordance with the European Health and Safety Mining Electrical Code of Practice L128.

The LCD will display the following:
Volt Reading
Alternator Temperature
Amp Reading
Hours Run
Alternator RPM
Alternator Faults
If any of the protections occur, the alternator can be reset via remote control. This is achieved by pointing the
eye towards the alternator and then pressing the “READ DATA” button. The LCD will then display all the above
readings and what caused the alternator to shut down. Repair the fault and press the “RESET” button.
The multi meter is used to find fault in the electrical system.
An internal battery charger is located inside the unit to charge the battery when it goes flat.
The unit will automatically shut down if it is not in use. ± 5min
A dongle has been incorporated to avoid unauthorized use of this unit.
Optional Extra.
Unit may be fitted into any Head Lamp Enclosures.
LCD Display.
Operates Remote Control.

This unit is an optional extra (the system is still operational without this unit). Alternatively, a normal head lamp
can be physically opened and all the faults may be conducted.
For SAFETY reasons, it is necessary to ensure that the alternator protection system is functional at all times
therefore it is essential to carry out a fault test on a regular basis (every day). To avoid the hard-ship of having to
open an enclosure and create a fault this unit has designed. Point the eye of the “IR DATA RE” towards this unit
and press the “POS EARTH” or “SHORT CIRCUIT” or “NEG EARTH” button and the fault will shut the alternator
down. The “FI” LCD will indicate the fault simulated so will the “IR DATA RE” LCD. Point the eye of the “IR DATA
RE” towards the alternator and press the RESET button.
The electronics can be fitted into any approved head lamp enclosure.
Real time running hour meter.
This is a brushless alternator (less working parts). There is no need to open the enclosure to install the wire cables. It is
compact, making it easier for installation. There is no need for field servicing.
The alternator is approved by worldwide approvals:
TÜV (Australia)
EXPLOLABS (South Africa)
