Students, please complete AT LEAST 1 activity of your choice per subject for this week of school. All tasks build upon knowledge that you have gained so far this year. The blue underlined text indicates a

Scholastic Learn-at-Home has free articles! Read the non-fiction articles “Nothing Can Stop Her” and “Cats Under Wraps” and answer questions 4-10 at the back. See attachments pg 4-6 for hard copies.

The Crazy Reason Why Dippin’ Dots Aren’t in the Supermarket
(1) Go to the freezer section of your grocery store, and you’ll find a million
flavors of Ben & Jerrys ice cream. (2) However, you’ll never find a crum of the
futuristic ice cream Dippin’ Dots in the freezers.
(3) According to Dippin’ Dots, most grocery stores don’t get cold enough to
hold the unique ice cream’s shape. (4) Your kitchen freezer is probably around
0 degrees Fahrenheit, but the Dots must be stored at a much colder
temperature then that. (5) They are flash frozen. (6) Stored at negative 40
degrees Fahrenheit. (7) Fun fact for you nerds out there: that’s the same
temperature as negative 40 Celsius!
(8) Now, you could still eat the Dots at 0 degrees, but they would all stick
together. (9) In fact, if a freezer lost power, the Dots would has to be thrown
away within thirty minutes! (10) By then, the Dots would cease to be actual
Dots. (11) They would be Dot soup, it would be messy and runny! (12) Thats
why the company has installed special freezers in convenience stores around
the country packed full of Dots.
(13) Back in 2013, the Dippin’ Dots company decided People might want to
eat its ice cream at places other than baseball games or amusement parks, so
it began shipping freezers. (14) You might be too lazy to go to a convenience
store. (15) You can even get Dots delivered to your house. (16) They will be
packed with a ton of dry ice. (17) Thirty cups of Dots will run you a cool
$59.99 plus $9.99 shipping.
