separated African and White Americans.She was born in Pine level, AlabamaHer Mom was a Teacher and taught Rosa to
read at age 3.In 1955 Rosa was told to give up her seat on
a bus she said no

taken to jail .Four days later she was on trial .All African people did not ride buses this was
called The Montgomery Boycott.Later the Judge ruled that Rosa was right.

The story tells you what Susan believed women and men were equal. The story
Tells you about Susan child hood she was not allowed to play. She went to school.
The story explained how she was a teacher and paid less than the male teachers.
Susan joined a Woman’s rights club. She met Elizabeth Stanton.

The two women fought for women’s right to vote . When she died in 1906, women still could not vote. Finally, Susan's dream came true in 1920. The law was changed and women could vote.

Thomas set up a laboratory on a train.
He almost set the whole train on fire! He decided to become a telegrapher.
He invented a telegraph that could send messages on the same wire at the same time.
He decided to make other machines better and easier to use. He also wanted to make new machines. He became an inventor.

He made the easier to use and made the telephone work better.
He found a way to make motion pictures that people could watch. He invented the phonograph, too.
He tried his biggest experiment ever. It was to make the light bulb. He made one and it worked.
Just as he did when he was a boy, Edison loved to find things out for himself. He would try and try again, until he made things work. For one invention, Edison tried about 10,000 experiments.

When he was young he had many jobs like chopping wood, driving a boat, being a soldier, working in a store, farming, and delivering mail.
When he grew up he studied to be a lawyer.

Maya LinMaya Lin was born on October 5,1959.She
was born in Athens, Ohio.Her parents, Julia and Henry Lin, came to the
United States from China in the 1940’s.Maya liked to build things as a child. She
worked very hard in school. Maya went to college at Yale University. She loves photography and admired beautiful building.
Maya LinMaya thought that she would like to be an architect
and design buildings someday.Maya entered a national design contest. For the
contest, Maya had to design a memorial. It would be called the Vietnam Veterans memorial.
On May 6,1981,Maya Lin was chosen the winner of the contest . Maya Lin continued her studies in architecture at Harvard University and Yale University.
In 1989,Maya complete the Civil Right Memorial in Alabama. In 1993,Maya completed a sculpture called “The Women’s Table” for Yale University.
Maya LinMaya Lin’s work brings people together. She
is an example for people not to judge others because of their age, color or whether the are a man or woman.

She was a college student in school, who loved space.
She went to college in California on scholarship.

As children they loved to build stuff. Their home was filled with books they loved to
read. Their dad gave them a flying machine. They played a lot with it. Then Orville made kites
he sold. They built a lot of things. In 1892 they opened a
bike shop. They built bikes and later gliders. In 1903 they built and flew the first airplane.

the Atlantic Ocean.He believed that he had found a fast, new way to
reach Asia.Christopher waned spices, jewels, and other

money to pay for his trip.Christopher had three ships, They were the
Nina, Pinta, and the Santa Maria.

umbrellas. Betsy’s husband joined an army to fight
against England. George Washington was not yet president at
that time. He was in charge of the colonies army.

Betsy Ross died in 1836 she was 84 years old when she died.

fields! John T. Stuart helped Abe study. Stuart made Abe his partner . But being a lawyer was not enough for Abe. Abe was president during the Civil war.

She was born in Virginia about 1595. She ran in the woods and played in the rivers
with the other villagers. When she was 12 life changed The first
English Settler Captain Smith and she and Captain Smith became good friends.
Pocahontas asked her dad not to kill English Settler Captain Smith and she became good friends.

Pocahontas helped the Settlers by bringing them food.
At 18, Pocahontas was kidnapped by English Settlers.
She met Jamestown Settler, John Rolfe, got married and had a son, Thomas.
She died at age 21.
HARRIET TUBMAN

HARRIET TUBMAN Harriet and her family belonged to a
farmer named Edward Brodas. Harriet was only three when she started
working. When she was nine years old she took
care of babies and cleaned houses. Sometimes the family she worked for
were very cruel to her.
HARRIET TUBMAN After dark the slaves got together and
talked about the Underground railroad, which took slaves to the north.
The Underground railroad was a group of blacks and whites that thought slavery was
wrong. One day she promised she would take
herself to the underground railroad.
HARRIET TUBMAN When she was 15 she accidentally got
hit in the head with by a heavy iron weight and she almost died.
After being sick for many months and almost dying she wanted her freedom more than ever.
In 1949 Harriet ran away. With the help from many people on the underground railroad. She reached Pennsylvania
HARRIET TUBMAN A reward of 40,000 dollars was offered
to anyone who found Harriet. Harriet was never caught. During the civil War Harriet worked as a spy for the northern army.

some pitching tricks from Dazzy Vance.As a teenager, Jackie played baseball for the
Engelettes.Jackie signed a contract for the Chattanooga

the Lookouts.Jackie struck out Babe Ruth.Landis had canceled Jackie’s contract.Jackie died in 1987 at the age of 73.

Dr. Bell introduced Annie to Helen. Annie taught how to do sign language.

Helen learned to read and write in Braille. When she was a teenager, she learned to speak.
When Helen was 20, she went to collage to study. Helen gave speeches and wrote many books.

loved to ride horses. George was good at math. George could measure the land using a
special tool. George dreamed to become a soldier.

At that time, a war was starting because the colonies did not like England’s rules.
Many places are named after George Washington.

He was born1585. His real name was Tasquantum, but
people called him Squanto. In 1614,some of the traders their forced
Squanto to go to Spain to be a slave. Squanto got away and went to England.

He returned home after five years. In 1620,a group of settlers arrived in
Patuxet there home. The settlers did not know how to live in
there new home so Squanto taught them how to do many things.
Squanto died in 1622 at the age of 37.
