Firstheldin2007withthetitle,“GlobalForumonEffectiveUseofTelecommunications/ICTforDisasterManagement:SavingLives”,theITUGlobalForumonEmergencyTelecommunicationshasevolvedtobecomethemainglobaleventfocusingonemergencytelecommunicationsandclimatechangemitigationandadaptation.TheForumbringstogetherdelegatesfromallovertheworld,rangingfromGovernmentMinisterstoRegulators,nationaldisastermanagementstakeholders,leadacademicians,privatesectorleaders,UnitedNationsentitiesandnon-governmentalorganizations.The2ndGlobalForumonEmergencyTelecommunications:SavingLives–knownasGET-2016,willaddressissuesofhighimportanceonhowinformationandcommunicationtechnologycanhelpinimplementingtheSendaiDeclarationadoptedbytheUnitedNationsConferenceonDisasterRiskReductionheldinSendai,Japan,inMarch2015.TheeventprovidesanopportunityforpolicymakersandotherparticipantstodebateandadoptconcretestrategiesonhoweffectivedisasterriskreductionandmanagementsupportedbyinformationandcommunicationtechnologycouldcontributetotheattainmentoftheSustainableDevelopmentGoalsrecentlyadoptedbytheUnitedNationsGeneralAssembly.OutcomesTheadoptedoutcomesofGET-2016willprovidestrategicguidancetothenationalandinternationalcommunity,includingITU,andwillresultinanincreasedknowledgeoftherolethateachoftheparticipatingentitiescouldplayingivingtelecommunications/ICTacentralroleindisastermitigationandmanagement.ParticipantsGET-2016expectstoattractabout500participantsfromaround90countriesworldwide,aswellasfromregionalandnationalorganizations.PanelistsandspeakersincludeMinisters,Director-GeneralsofRegulatoryAuthoritiesandofUNorganizations,NationalHeadsofPublicProtectionentities,ChiefExecutiveOfficersofprivatesectorcompaniesandexpertsinthefieldofICTfordisastermanagement.SeveralmembersofAcademiaarealsoexpectedtoattendtheForum.
