Everyone seems to have a fond memory of a beautiful weeping willow tree. Learn to fringe & twirl long wool branches to design your willow. All supplies are provided by the teacher. When you are finished and ready to display your tree, you’ll see how the branches are moveable so you can change the style of the tree.

“Wooly” SUNFLOWER JACKIE BURKE
Learn something new and easy to create your own beautiful flower to accessorize a basket or wreath maybe. You will learn to use an Oxford punch needle to create the middle of your flower and then learn to use a rug hook to create the petals. Choice of beautiful hand dyed wools will be available. Learn an easy way to finish the back of the flower. All supplies are provided by the teacher for class use. 2HRS.(6pm-8pm) $30

Students will insert staves into a base and weave around a class mold. The turned rim will be glued on. Students will have a choice of various custom accents and choice of black walnut or cherry wood. Cherry is the default wood.

KENNY’S NANTUCKET JAN BEYMA
Students will learn the basics of setting up and finishing a Nantucket basket. Students will insert the cane staves into the base and weave with cane in an over/under pattern, then change to a twill to finish weaving. Basket will be woven over a tin mold which is for class use only. Base, rim and lid are pre-finished cherry. Tool kit will be provided for class use.

GERMAN BRAID ANNE BOWERS
When Anne visited the Basketry Festival in Lichtensfels, Germany, she was inspired by this braid. Used to make trays and trivets, students will weave with Hamburg cane on dyed rods. The braid is a bit confusing at first, but you’ll soon catch on!

These colorful fishes are fun to have swimming alongside your baskets! Using traditional tension trivet techniques, we will be shaping a fish and adding colorful twine to make our fish a little fancy!

Some chainmaille experience will be helpful in weaving 3 different patterns of earrings. Students will weave the Byzantine, Shaggy loops, and the Mobius earrings, all in sterling silver. Students will learn the weave while weaving the first earring, then will make a second earring.

FLYING GEESE DIANNE GLEIXNER
Weave a unique open weave base, start/stop rows, triple twining, and twill weave using 3 different colors of dyed reed. All the rows are start/stop, so figuring out how to begin each row, along with shaping will be the focus of this class. This rectangular shaped basket is a great size for so many uses. The colors will be navy blue, green, and burgundy. Tools: the usual weaving tools

TRIBAL GINA KIEFT
Start this basket by learning to weave a round base. Shaping of the pot belly side weaving will be stressed in class. Tribal space dyed weavers of Black Onyx, Rust Brown and Cinnamon Sugar will be used. The rim is double lashed with waxed linen. Curls are added for dimension. Finish by hanging an assortment of beads for an embellishment.

THE WALL BASKET BILLY OWENS
The wall basket is made from white oak trees I select, cut and prepare by hand using homemade tools my Dad made and used. It has a woven oak bottom and a D shaped top, giving it a flat back so it can be hung against the wall. It is 6” deep excluding the oak handle. It will be woven over a mold, and everyone should finish in class.

Fun for all weavers! Learn a looping stitch with waxed linen and cotton cord combined. Select from a variety of colors to make it your pouch. A wood mold makes for stitching and shaping ease. Braid a neck cord with cotton cord, then attach to pouch and it’s ready for you to wear.

A fancy MINIATURE basket woven with Black Ash over a class mold. Students can choose to weave with natural ash uprights or black dyed ash uprights. Students will be provided with handle and rim stock and will carve and shape the handle and rims for the basket. Special Tools: Small, sharp scissors, a small packing tool and small toothless clips will be needed.

WEAVING LEVELS
For the best weaving experience, choose basket classes which are at your current weaving level. Unsure of your weaving level? Choose a class for ‘ALL LEVELS’ or use the following to help you decide:
Beginner – You may have woven a few baskets but need practice with basic weaving techniques and shaping. Advanced Beginner – You have a good understanding of twining, start/stop weaving, and lashing. Intermediate – You can easily begin a basket. You want to learn and/or practice new techniques. Advanced – You are an accomplished weaver in a particular basket type and are looking for new techniques and materials.

Students will insert tapered staves in a cherry or black walnut base and will weave over a class mold. A turned rim will be glued on. Students will be encouraged to be creative with the choice of color accents from materials provided. Students must notify instructor choice of wood, cherry is the default wood.

Basket is woven over a metal container which becomes part of the basket. Stakes and weavers will be cane alternating over/under and twill weaves. A pre-finished cherry cheater rim will be glued on to finish off basket. Basket will be pre-started (please let me know if you weave left-handed). You can use the container to chill wine or other beverages in or put a plant in it. Tool kit will be provided for class use.

Standing tall at the top of the hand-tooled leather handle, this basket utilizes wide, doubled spokes in its construction and both round and flat oval weavers to achieve its curvaceous shape. Lots of techniques to learn!

Basket is woven on a wood base. Weaves include 3 rod twining and continuous twill weave with natural flat oval reed. Shaping the basket will be your challenge. Basket is kept square and flared out at the top. Leather basket weave embossed handles are added to strap the basket onto your bike and tote strap. Choose your dyed color spokes that can be red, blue, aquamarine, or black. Shaping is critical in this basket.

This somewhat urn-shaped bowl starts with a round wood base, features triple twining with a step-up, twill weave, chase weaving, and a stacked rim lashed with waxed linen thread. Emphasis will be in shaping, correctly weaving the twill and the interesting twill with a triple twined chase weave. Prior twill experience is necessary. Slower students may not finish the rim lashing in class. Special tools: The usual weaving tools plus a small packing tool and a large eyed blunt tip tapestry needle.

Weaving with smoked and your choice of a second color, weave this twill base using four different sized spokes. Using a play in twill, create the “creature like figures” that “invade” the side weaving. Spoke placement and weaving tension will be discussed as well as the twill pattern creation. Choose a closed notched handle or leather side handles for easy carrying. Rim the basket with matching smoked reed and waxed linen. Many choices of dyed reed will be offered.

GINA KIEFT
This beautiful twill weave pattern includes 3/3 twill and over 1/under /1 weaving to create an eye catching design. Spoke placement and weaving tension are stressed in class. Many choices of dyed reed are offered to weave in. A notched handle will top the basket for easy carrying. Double lash the rim with waxed line.

NEW LARGE BACKPACK WITH HANDLE BILLY OWENS
The New Large Oak Backpack is made from white oak trees I select, cut and prepare by hand using homemade tools my Dad made and used. Much larger than the one taught at previous conventions, it has a 7”x12” woven oak herringbone bottom and an oval top. It is finished off with a fine leather harness and wooden handle. This basket is woven Nantucket style over a blue & white Japanese Bowl. 0.25” flat oval spokes are woven using bleached Hamburg cane. A 0.5” half round rim is dyed blue and lashed with waxed linen.

This basket was designed for newer waxed linen weavers. The basket is twined with 7 ply waxed linen and delica beads. Linda will demonstrate and teach you completing a row, setting up for the next row, color change, shaping and the braided rim. Special Tools: Small embroidery scissors, waxed linen packing tool with pointed tip, bead tray, tape measure. A personal light and magnifying glasses may be helpful.

The pouch was originally made for my sister to carry a credit card and/or driver’s license. It is also convenient for carrying business cards and money and with a small adaptation it can be used as a name tag. The pouch is woven with black ash and waxed linen. Basket is woven over a plastic mold with cane staves and weavers. Basket will be woven in a twill pattern. Neck and base are maple and will be pre-finished. Students add head and embellishments to the angel. Angel will be PRE-STARTED so please let me know if you weave to the left! Tool kit will be provided for class use.

Students will start this ribbed basket with the initial ribs inserted into the drilled rhododendron handle. Weavers will include dyed reed, seagrass, coir, jute, yarn and a variety of other materials. Using dyed ribs, students will learn how to sight and shape their basket. SPECIAL TOOLS: Bring sharpened knife to class!

Basket begins by inserting all natural spokes into a wood base. Weaving techniques include a start/stop twill weave using a graph, a 2/1 continuous twill using round reed, start/stop weaving and 3 rod twining. This is a great techniques basket! You will make your own handle as part of the basket. Using all natural reed with different weaves gives this basket a great textured look.

This Nantucket style basket is woven over a 6” plastic bowl, using ¼” flat oval spokes and bleached cane weavers. Four-ply waxed linen is used to weave an arrow design, and Japanese beads are threaded onto the border. Such a pretty but unusual basket.

Saturday Classes: Sept. 19, 2020 ARROWHEAD LINDA SCHERZ
This basket inspiration came from another cotton cord basket I designed called Celebration. Instead of stacking the arrows, we made them spiral. Starting with a wood base with the spokes PRE-GLUED prior to class, the design is quad-twined with four colors of cotton cord and finished with a modified version of a match stick rim. Color choices will be available.

CANDY BARNES
Students will insert staves into a clock base and will weave with cane over a class mold. A turned rim will be glued on. Included is a custom-made base with engraved numbers that will be painted by the students in class. A quartz clock hand movements will be installed after finishing. Students must notify the instructor of their choices of Cherry or Black Walnut wood.

SQUARE DANCE GINA KIEFT
With a play in twill weave using dyed and natural spokes and weavers, create squares in the design of the base and side weaving. The squares are NOT an overlay. The squares are in different locations on the inside compared to the outside of the basket. Learn to follow a graph. Twill experience is helpful when weaving this ADVANCED project. Lash the rim with waxed linen making a do-si-do around the rim filler. Add an octagon handle for easy carrying.

COVERLET GINA KIEFT
Weaving with the color of your choice, weave a herringbone base using two different sized spokes to start this lovely basket. After the completion of the inside basket using natural spokes from the base weaving, learn to weave the ‘coverlet’ on the outside of the basket using the dyed spokes from the base weaving. The outside weaving makes a striking effect that gives the basket great dimension. Iron side handles are added for easy carrying.

Sunday Classes: Sept. 20, 2020 VON’S NANTUCKET TO-GO CUP

Students will learn the basics of setting up and finishing a Nantucket basket. Students will insert the cane staves and weave cane in an over under pattern, then a twill, and back to over-under to finish the basket. Basket will be woven over a stainless steel cup which remains part of the basket. Base and rim will be pre-finished cherry. Tool kit provided for class use.

WILD HAIR ANNE BOWERS
Students will be weaving a multicolored basket that is square on the bottom and rounded at the top. Rim is lashed with waxed linen, then topped with green sprigs of contorted willow. Willow can be lashed inside or outside basket, or along the rim. Quirky and unique!

This cute little basket begins with spokes inserted into a wood base in a very specific order. Weaving techniques include start/stop, twining and 3-rod-pair twining. Colorful beads are added while lashing the rim. The snowman and snowflakes are tied on after the basket is woven.

Students will weave an open weave base, upset the spokes, then do a continuous weave up the sides. Emphasis will be on shaping so the back is flat and the front pouches out. The shaker tape handle is adjustable so the basket can be worn different ways.

NANTUCKET STYLE PIN-CUP (FLOWER FROG)

The 3” iron flower pin cup (also known as a flower frog) is woven using a 3” Ash base, 3/16” flat oval spokes and bleached cane. Rimmed with 3/8” half-round rim that is dyed indigo. This cup holds water and the frog has pins that flowers are placed through. Great for small arrangements.

Kits have supplies for a bracelet, necklace and earrings. Linda will demonstrate the stitch for all of the pieces, and her tips for making ease. The bracelet is made to wrap once around your wrist, the necklace a single string and earrings in a circle. Everyone will be able to complete a minimum of a necklace or bracelet in class.

A small Black Ash basket, starting with a woven 3” square base, up to a 4 ½” round top. Ear (side) handles will be placed on the outside of the basket. Students will use the prepared 4 ½” round rim to form the top of the basket. A 3” cube will be available to use as an optional mold for the first half of the basket.
