Chicago is an powerhouseArts and a global cultural destination.
At the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), with a smallbut-mighty staff of just 58, we accomplish big things—including international publicity and a social media reach of nearly 500,000 people. Our large-scale summer festivals and events contribute more than $246 million in total business activity to the Chicago economy. And by the end of this year, DCASE will present more than 2,000 programs, services and events for well over 25 million residents and visitors alike.
Mayor Emanuel and DCASE have designated 2018 the “Year of Creative Youth” with a new Creative Youth Festival across the Millennium Park Campus on September 22—and more activities throughout the year. The initiative will shine a spotlight on Chicago’s creative youth and the incredible organizations and educators inspiring the next generation through the arts.
In addition: • Millennium Park is now the #1 attraction in the Midwest and Chicago’s town
square—buzzing with free festivals, concerts, movies and more. We will showcase the best of Chicago’s cultural landscape in collaboration with film festivals, music presenters, dance companies and other arts organizations— throughout the summer and year-round.
• World Music Festival will continue to deliver global grooves to multiple venues throughout Chicago in its 20th year.
• Our 40th Annual Jazz Festival will expand with longer dates, more stages downtown and more neighborhood venues.
• We will bring new energy to the Taste of Chicago. An estimated 1.6 million people attended last year’s event, the highest on record since the Taste moved to a five-day format in 2012.
• Our popular SummerDance series will expand—featuring House, steppin’, footwork and more at Grant Park, embedded in our festivals and throughout the city in even more neighborhood parks.
• We will celebrate Maxwell Street Market, Chicago’s Latino market and the oldest open-air market in the U.S.—part of our rebranded City Markets program, which brings some 70 markets to neighborhoods across the city.
• We will present feats of aerial acrobatics at the 60th Annual Chicago Air and Water Show.
• And our new, year-round Professional Development Program Series for creatives will convene arts industry partners to support emerging artists.
Arts and culture define the character of great cities, great states, great civilizations. And that’s true for this great city. We are the birthplace of storefront theater, modern architecture, footwork, improv, Gospel music, House music, the urban Blues and more. Chicago is an arts powerhouse and a global cultural destination.
We look forward to working with you in 2018.

Knuckles mixed old disco classics, Euro-pop and electronic beats into a
high-energy amalgamation.
