Wellness CenterTheWellnessCenterisavailableformembersages16andover.WeaskthatmembersbecourteousandputawayequipmentwhenfinishedusingitandrefrainfromtalkingontheircellphoneswhileintheWellnessCenter.Teens(ages13-15)whohavecompletedtheWellnessCenterCertificationClass,mayutilizethecardioandstrengthmachines.Forsafetyreasons,onlymembersages16andovermayusethefreeweights.

Asaresult,Robeganexercisingregularly.Primarilyusinganellipticalmachineshehadathome,shemanagedtocut75pounds.Eventuallytheellipticalstoppedworking,however,andRobeganexploringotheroptions.
Duringthesummerof2015,shejoinedtheMorrisYMCA.Moredevotedthanever,shekickedherfitnessroutineupanotchandhasn’tlookedbacksince.WorkingoutattheYisnowapartofherdailylife.ShevisitstheYfivedaysaweek,ifnotsix,tocontinueherweightlossjourney.Onceperweek,shealsotrainswithHealthandWellnessDirectorIanStewart,whohasguidedheralongtheway.
“RoisbyfaroneofthehardestworkingindividualsIknow,insideandoutsideofthegym,”Iansaid.“ShehasembracedeverythingI’vethrownherway.Shedoesherhomework.”
Asitturnedout,exercisingwasonlyhalfthebattle.NotonlydidRohavetocommittofitnessandexercise,butshealsohadtosmartenupabouthernutrition.ForRo,thatmeantshakingsomeunhealthyeatinghabits.
“Therearealotofpeoplewhoareaddictedtoalcohol.Therearepeople,unfortunately,whoareaddictedtodrugs.I’maddictedtofood,”shesaid.“Thatfeelingofecstasythatsomebodywouldgetfromdrugsoralcohol—Igetthatfromfood.Andit’sdifficultbecauseIcangointoJewelandgetabagofOreosandicecream,andit’stotallylegal.”
Nevertheless,Roovercameheroldeatinghabitsbyformulatingadietandswearingtoit.Shelearnedaboutcalorieintake;shegaveuplatenightsnacking;sheswappedjunkfoodforfruitsandvegetables;andnow,sheishealthierthanever.
“TheYhasreallyhelpedmefocus.I’mreallygladthey’rehereinMorris,”shesaid.“WhenIworkout,Iwanttoeatbetter.WhenIeatbetter,Iwanttoworkout.Ifeelamazing.”
