Maintenance of Records for Audit
Records of the following information should be kept and maintained for notless than 5 years after date of creation or receipt:
• Weight of waste disposed
• Weight of each type of waste diverted away from disposal and channelledfor reuse or recycling
• Name of collector of general waste for disposal
• Name of collector and final recipient of each type of waste forreuse/recycling
• Documentation on equipment used and method of obtaining informationon weight of waste/recyclables

The purpose of the waste audit is to derive the average
weight of waste in a filled bulk bin used by the premises.It is necessary that weighing be carried out for all bins
collected at the premises for at least a day.
You may conduct an in-house audit or engage a waste
collector for the audit.
Premises with in-house measurement of waste
• Records of waste tonnages, e.g. raw physical records,
electronic tickets generated by weighing device
• Documentation of the methodology and calculations to
derive waste tonnages submitted to NEA
Premises which engage waste collectors with weighing
mechanism on trucks
• Records of waste tonnages provided by waste collector,
e.g. daily electronic records/tonnage spreadsheets

Common Types of Recyclables
Papers includes cardboard boxes, paper drink cartons, office paper, newspapers, phone books, used envelopes, files, pamphlets/brochures, posters,
magazines, junk mail, etc.
Metals includes both ferrous and non-ferrous metals (e.g. steel cans, containers,metal objects, aluminium cans and containers, tin cans, etc.)
Plastics include plastic drink bottles, detergent bottles, plastic bags, plasticwrappings, shrink wrap, ice cream/yogurt tubs, etc.
Glass includes clear, brown, green etc. coloured bottles / containers / jars
Food includes raw and cooked food wastes, but excludes used cooking oil
