PURPOSE
The purpose of the Evangelical Congregational Church is to know Christ
and to make Him known.
MISSION
The mission of the Evangelical Congregational Church is to raise up healthy churches
proclaiming Christ to a hurting world.
CORE VALUES
Passion for Christ
As demonstrated by our commitment to the authority of the Bible, the centrality of prayer
and the pursuit of holiness.
Compassion for the Lost
As demonstrated by evangelism and acts of mercy on a local, national and global scale.
Servant Leadership
As demonstrated by the training and development of men and women for
mission and ministry.
Healthy Ministries
As demonstrated by changed lives through culturally sensitive churches and denominational institutions.
United in the Body of Christ
As demonstrated by the networking of churches with the Evangelical Congregational Church
and the larger Kingdom of God.
VISION
The Evangelical Congregational Church will be a dynamic movement of God that is led by pastors and laity who have
a burning passion for God and a missionary zeal to reach the lost. We will creatively obey the Great Commission by
transforming plateaued and declining churches into healthy, disciple-making churches that are committed to
evangelizing the communities to which God has called them. Healthy churches will reproduce themselves by planting
churches in least-reached communities. Interdependence will be the distinguishing mark of the Evangelical
Congregational Church as local churches network with one another and ministries beyond the E.C. family to proclaim
the Gospel to the world.
WELCOME
Dear National Conference members and guests,
Enclosed you will find information you need for National Conference
2015 which will meet at Messiah College this May 27-29. In this packet of
material you’ll find useful things like a map of the campus so you don’t
get lost (or at least can find your way back), an agenda, and of course
lots of reports. Please remember that this year the reports were
published in two separate pieces – the Amendments, Benefits
Corporation, and Covenant Implementation Team reports were posted to the EC Church website
(www.eccenter.com) prior to the pre-conference meetings. The remaining reports are with this
packet. It is important for you to bring all the documents with you to National Conference. This year
we have an overabundance of reading material and while I understand that reading reports may
not be the most exciting thing you have planned between now and the end of May, it is very
important that you read through them prior to Conference so you can ask questions and enter into
meaningful discussion. We will not have time for all groups to highlight their report so it’s even more
important to read them now. Time will be set aside during our business sessions to receive questions
about any published report.
Because of the number of important discussions and decisions at this Conference I have had to limit
the amount of time we can spend in hearing and celebrating what God is doing in and through the
EC Church. But even with a full agenda we must take some time to share some of those stories of
how God is using us as he continues on his mission to redeem the world and build COMMUNITY.
There will be times of worship, singing and listening to God’s Word as we develop our COMMUNITY
theme. Peter was inspired to write “…you are a chosen people…God’s very own possession. As a
result, you can show others the goodness of God…” (1 Peter 2:9 NLT). We live in a fragmented and
frenzied world; there is so much to do, so many choices, everyone crying out for our attention at the
same time. The Church is people; people called by God to his mission. The church is COMMUNITY;
living as witness to God’s love and intention for His creation. From the earliest days of the church,
fellowship, COMMUNITY, and life together have characterized the followers of Jesus. Discipleship,
maturity, spiritual growth, as well as acts of love and service are enhanced as we engage in
COMMUNITY.
It’s no accident that “unity” is found in COMMUNITY. As believers we are united in mutual love,
humility, grace, and service. That’s not always easy but it is the life to which God calls us so that as a
“chosen people” we can “show others the goodness of God” lived out in real life. Join us as we unite
during the days of National Conference 2015 to worship, pray, celebrate, and work together to
honor God and build his Kingdom together.
In Christ’s service,

Lay Delegate Orientation (Wednesday, May 27)
The position of lay delegate has been one of the most important in the Evangelical Congregational
Church, and as such, it is not a responsibility to be taken lightly. This short orientation will help you to
develop a better knowledge of the history and work of the EC Church. The orientation will be held on
Wednesday morning at a site to be determined. Check with the E.C. Courtesy Desk upon registration
to get details.
Evangelical Seminary Dinner (Wednesday, May 27) Seeing the Bible through Fresh Eyes
We will hear from Evangelical’s newest faculty members – Philip Bollinger and Sarah Dorsey
Bollinger. Following a nationwide search, the Bollingers have been jointly appointed to permanently
fill the Old Testament faculty position left vacant by the retirement and passing of Dr. David Dorsey
two years ago. Sarah and Phil are Dave’s daughter and son-in-law; by God’s grace, they were well
prepared and willing to teach the Bible to the next generation of Evangelical Seminary students.
As President Blair interviews the Bollingers, they will share some of their strategies for seeing the
Bible through fresh eyes – how an understanding of biblical culture helps us read the Bible with a fresh
perspective, what it was like to “trust and obey” in Bible times, how ancient languages and eternal
truths can best be interpreted in our own times.
As curators of the Seminary’s biblical archeology museum, they’ll bring some fascinating
millennia-old artifacts to help us see and feel the past. You’ll hear about our current initiative to
refresh the archeology museum, and how that effort will benefit your church’s own teaching of the
Bible.
Global Ministries Luncheon (Thursday, May 28)
Join us for the Global Ministries lunch to hear exciting updates on EC
Churches, Missionaries and International Churches. We are inviting Rev. Th. Janga,
Director of the EC Church of Nepal to be our keynote speaker for the luncheon this
year.
Women’s Program
The featured speaker will be Marcia Hopler, Cross-Cultural Specialist with InterVarsity
Christian Fellowship in Philadelphia. Marcia will speak on Wednesday afternoon and
