About the University Musical AssociatesThe University Musical Associates, also known as the UMA, is the community patrons’ group for the FSU College of Music. The membersof the organization are an integral part of the performance life of the students of the College through their attendance at concerts and financial support. The UMA continue to be inspired by the students who enrich the culture in our community through their performances. The organization offers financial assistance for students to travel to competitions and professional conferences, and it also provides supportfor special performers and scholars to visit our College for public lectures, concerts, and masterclasses. We invite you to join and becomea member in the 2012-2013 season as UMA celebrates 24 years of proudly supporting music students.
I was recently selected as 1 of 10 semifinalists in the Meg Quigley
International Vivaldi Competition and Symposium. The UMA funding
I received allowed me to travel and perform in California at the
symposium, gaining invaluable experience that will help me achieve
my professional music goals.
CARLY GOMEZ, Bachelor of Music candidate in Woodwind Performance (bassoon) – recipient ofUMA funding to compete in the Meg Quigley International Vivaldi Competition in Stockton, CA.
The University Musical Associates’ funding allowed me to present my
research to scholars that have impacted my growth as a music educator
and researcher. With the University Musical Associates’ help, I was able
to begin building a track record of successful professional experiences.
DAVID POPE, Ph.D. candidate in Music Education – recipient of UMA funding to present his creative work at the National Association for Music Education meeting in St. Louis, MO.
