What is State Trust Land?State Trust land is:
Land that was granted to Arizona by the federal government in preparation for Arizona’s
statehood.

State Trust land is not public land!
Because these lands are held in trust, they differ greatly from public lands
such as BLM or US Forest Service land, and are more akin to private land.

Every Acre has a BeneficiaryState Trust land is held in trust and managed by the Arizona State Land Department for the sole
purpose of generating revenues for Arizona’s K-12 public schools…

Commonly-encountered drainage issues on ASLD-adjacent development:
• Reliance on:• uncertified and unmaintained impoundments and
diversion structures, or • trespass installations
• Deficient or unmaintained on-site drainage conveyance or retention
• Unmapped or localized flooding hazards• Fissures and ground subsidence

• State Trust land is not public land and should be thought of in the same way as private land• Every dollar ASLD earns goes to our beneficiaries, who must be compensated for
any use on the land• ASLD is a General Fund appropriation agency
• ASLD coordinates with local floodplain managers on both local and regional flooding
issues
