Youngster to Draw Draft Serial Cards

Next Monaay morning, littfe >Ilmmle Wataon wUI drew th first 10 cards of men between 20 and 44 who registered Feb. 16 17 and 18. Jlnunle, four-year-old son of Mrs. Doris Wataon, as Histant clerk to Selective Service Board No. 280,' will thus begl the board's big Job of assigning serial numbers by lot to the 3,000 men of this district who*- responded to the third national "R" day. The youngster will perform his first service for his country at 9 o'clock at 1336 El Prado, Torrance, and the board is expected to take the rest ofthe day in placing serial num- bers on the registration cards.

On March 17 at Washington, D. C., a repetition of the na- tional draft lottery of Oct. "29, 1940, will be held to determine the order In which the regis-

called attention this week to the fact that they have orders which forbid any Selective Service reg- istrant from enlisting after he has received instruction to re- port for Army physical exami- nation. The only exceptions to this rule are men with specialist ratings.

The local board also announced that a news report published last week that Dean Dee Cox of Torrance and Frank Orla Hinck- ley of Lomita had been Inducted Into the Army "by mistake of the board" was in error The mistake, board officials declared, was made by Army authorities at Ft. MaoArthur who sent the two young men to Ft. Knox, I Ky., when they were scheduled to enter Air Corps training. The local board members inslstei they were only following ordersnd that these instructions were

well known to the young men and their parents.

Hereafter, whenever a draf registrant is ordered to repor for medical examination) he mus be prepared to be inducted im mediately if he is found physi cally fit. The examinations arc generally given In either Los Angeles or at Ft. MacArthur. selectee must show good reason important business or home, af fairs, to obtain a leave to re- turn home after examination.

    "We can help you in the con-rvation p r o g r a m," Director

or .perhaps there is a broken >iece of furniture we can help ou to mend. This department s now working hand in hand with the defense program. We request that all Scout troops, Sunday school groups and otb- ;rs phone 621 and tell us when o expect you. We also want io ecommend arts and crafts as a
