‘‘Community Effort is Essential’’

The Humpty Doo Waste Transfer Station

G’DAY, how are you allgoing out there?

Fighting fit, I hope.Well, the Community

Survey response has beenvery poor, with just over1000 completed, so I haveextended it to tomorrow,

November 15. This is reallyimportant guys, this is yourcommunity and you need totell us what you want.

Come on, get on board. The Community Survey

helps guide us for the nextfour of five years, so

everyone, including kidsand seniors, get yours filledin. Remember the newdeadline is tomorrow,November 15, so head tothe Litchfield Councilwebsite www.litchfield.nt.gov.au to complete yoursurvey TODAY.

OK, put your hands up,who got an email from me?

I am trying to find a directway to communicate withyou. We want to keep youinformed of what’shappening and quickly.

We’re also looking atsetting up an electronicmailing list for thosewishing to join. Keepchecking our website:www.litchfield.nt.gov.auand please come along toyour local public meeting.

Tell us how you think wecan better communicate.

THE wet season is welland truly here, alreadyhaving a number of stormsaround the rural area, soplease stay safe, protectyour property and familyand remember to haveyour cyclone kit ready.

Please don’t leave it tothe last minute.

The emergency crewsare out there fighting to

keep us all safe so, if youdon’t have one, grab a highvisibility property sign. That’s the red and whitenumber sign. They are only$20 and your local brigadewill put them up for you —now how’s that for service?

THANK you to those fewwho attended the council’sEast Ward public meetingwith local councillor MikeBowman. It wasdisappointing to see so fewand we are hoping thatcouncillor Terry Richards’Central Ward publicmeeting gathers a much

bigger crowd. Justremember, it’s not onlyabout complaints at themeetings. It’s also aboutgetting to know your localcouncillor, coming in withyour ideas for your area, andtelling us all the good thingsthat are happening.

Please come along tomeet Terry and myself at theCentral Ward meeting onWednesday, November 21,to be held at the LitchfieldCouncil Chambers.

COUNCIL recentlypurchased three newMassey Ferguson tractors

ready for our mobileworkforce starting at theend of this month.

The tractors with slasherand front buckets werepurchased from DavidSanderson and his team atFarmworld in Humpty Doo.

I RECENTLY attendedthe Zero Waste Summit inMelbourne and LGANTmeeting in Alice Springs.

The summit made methink of how we couldcreate and adopt a zerowaste approach in theLitchfield Municipal. At AliceSprings, the council showed

us around its wastemanagement system.

Did you know that insome places, they process80 per cent of their wasteand are working on the rest?

Lastly, I would like tothank all those families thathave been recycling.

Compared to the sametime last year, the councilhas reduced landfill by1005.54 tonnes — that’sthrough you recycling and isa saving of $124,928.20.

Well done. Pleaseencourage your friends torecycle, also.
