Astract
Sautrntika in the Nyynusra stra by Saghabhadra

The term called Sautrntika is mentioned thirty-two times in the Nyynusra
stra. Actually Saghabhadra mentioned it quoting their theory only four times,
four times in a Vasubandhu (Strakra)'s quotation, one time in a Sthavira
rlta's discourse. And it is explained the rest twenty-three times in a process of
criticizing and blaming their eleven theories including 9times mentioned above.
The identity of Sutrntika mentioned in 11 topics is as follows.
Sautrntika which explained nonreality of kyavijpti karma, nonreality of
avijpti(or the theory of bja) and criticism of argument of the theory of
substantial being in the past, the present and the future by sattiviea of the
karma, anuaya as anudhtu(bja) of klea, nonreality of asaskta, criticism of
avsthika interpretation of prattyasamutpda and arhat's flesh which is ansvara
referred to Sthavira rlta or Drntika.
The identity of Sautrntika asserting that Upavsa savara is not limited to day
and night is not confirmed, argued unsigned also in Mahvibhastra, but can be
inferred by Sthavira. Sautrntika asserting the theory of Partial accepting
Upsaka's rules (paca la) as foreign(Bahirdeaka) Sautrntika is reported to be
Masters of Gandhra(Pcttya) in Mahvibhastra. Sautrntika explaining
that asavara is also acquired with some sentient beings(sattva) as objects is
thought to be as foreign Sautrntika because it closely related to the theory of
Partial accepting Upsaka's rules and it is reported to be Masters of Gandhra in
Mahvibhastra. Sautrntika asserting apostasy by prjika(four serious sins)
contextually means Vasubandhu, but also Sthavira takes the same position.
From such a example, the term called Sautrntika which was mentioned on

Nyynusra stra mostly refers to Sthavira rlta who succeeded to
Drntika on Mahvibhastra, but also the Masters of Gandhra(foreign
Sautrntika) can be said to have been called so. And as supposed, Vasubandhu
(and purvcrya) belonged to the latter, but associated with a sect of Sthavira,
and probably wrote Abhidharmakoabhya based on their thought.
