DOWN THE SHEDROWWITH MIKE STIDHAM
By Christie DeBernardis
For trainer Mike Stidham, racing has always been in his blood.
His father George Stidham was a jockey, turned jockey agent,
turned trainer and in 1978, at the age of 21, the younger
Stidham took out his trainer=s license and went out on his own
with a few of his father=s cast-offs. He had his first winner a year
later and captured his first graded stake in 1988 with Manzotti,
who would go on to sire his first Grade I winner Two Altazano.
Now 59-years-old, the New Jersey native has conditioned
32 graded stakes winners, including a trio of Grade I-winning
females in Two Altazano, Sutra (Meadowlake) and most recently
Her Emmynency (Successful Appeal). Stidham looks primed to
increase that number in 2017 with Grade III winner and GISP
Zipessa (City Zip) coming back and several promising young
runners in the barn, such as ATDN Rising Stars@ Diadura (Hard
Spun) and Stallion Heiress (Exchange Rate).
! ZIPESSA (m, 5, City Zip)
Winner of the GIII Dr. James Penny Memorial S. this summer,
Zipessa checked in third in the GI Beverly D. S. on Arlington
Million day and was second next out in the GI Rodeo Drive S. at
Santa Anita Oct. 1. The Empyrean Stables colorbearer was last
seen finishing a late-closing fifth in the GI Breeders= Cup F/M
Turf Nov. 5. Cont. p3
DACITA RETURNING FOR 6YO SEASONby Steve Sherack
Dacita (Chi) (Scat Daddy), on the shelf since coming within a
nose of capturing the GII Canadian S. at Woodbine last
September, has rejoined
trainer Chad Brown=s Palm
Meadows base and is aiming
to begin her 6-year-old
campaign this spring.
AShe=s been training with
Eddie Woods since the first
week of January and actually
just shipped to Palm
Meadows [Tuesday] to Chad=s
barn there,@ said co-owner

Diadura | Four Footed Fotos
Cont. from p1
AZipessa arrived with Diadura [Tuesday], so she is going to get
started back for her 2017 campaign. We are really excited about
her because in the Breeders= Cup race she showed us a
dimension we didn=t know she had. She got off bad, Bravo just
kind of let her settle without rushing her and then asked her to
make a move. She mad a big, sweeping move and lost a lot of
ground, but she was running on at the end, so we are really,
really excited about getting her back and getting going with
her.@
! DIADURA (f, 3, Hard Spun)
Empyrean Stables and Two Princesses= Diadura captured her
debut over the Arlington synthetic in August and was tabbed a
ATDN Rising Star@ after her decisive victory in the Arlington-
Washington Lassie S. Sept. 10 (video). The dark bay was last
seen finishing a disappointing 10th in the GI Darley Alcibiades S.
in her first start on dirt at Keeneland Oct. 7.
AShe=s been down in Ocala with Randy Bradshaw. She=s workeda couple of quarters and actually just arrived back in myshedrow at Fair Grounds [Tuesday].@ AWe don=t have anything definite planned. We just wanted togive her some time after her race at Keeneland to grow up andfill out a little bit, which she did. We don=t have a scheduleplanned out. We will just take it one race at a time.@

Stallion Heiress | Hodges Photography
! STALLION HEIRESS (f, 3, Exchange Rate)
Donning cap and gown by four lengths when unveiled in a Fair
Grounds turf sprint Dec. 8, Stallionaire Enterprises= Stallion
Heiress earned the ATDN Rising Star@ distinction with a
7 3/4-length tour-de-force in the one-mile Joseph E. >Spanky=
Broussard Memorial S. Feb. 11 (video).
AShe was coming out of a
5 1/2-furlong sprint race and going
two turns for the first time [in the
Broussard]. We felt like she would
handle the added distance with no
problem, but [you don=t know] until
they go out and do it. Because she is
so talented, but very fast early, you
always worry about those kind being
able to relax and finish up. She really
impressed all of us with the way she
was able to open up
10 lengths down the backside and just
keep going in the stretch. We were
very pleased with her and very
impressed. With her, we are certainly going to look at the little
stake here at the Fair Grounds also [the Allen >Black Cat=
Lacombe Memorial S. Mar. 11] and also looking forward to
maybe the [GIII] Appalachian [S.] at Keeneland [Apr. 13].
Something like that.@
! HANIEL (f, 3, Mizzen Mast)
Breaking sharply from post 11 in her career bow on the Fair
Grounds lawn Feb. 11, Sangreal Investments homebred Haniel
went from gate to wire to graduate
by 3 1/2 lengths (video).
AWe were really pleased with her.
She was one that was working nicely
on the dirt and we knew with her
pedigree that the grass should help
her even more. She certainly went out
and did what we were hoping she
would do. She was impressive in the
way she was able to let the horses
come to her in the stretch and then
pull away with another gear. We
were happy to see her able to do
that.@
AThere is a $50,000 stake in March
at the Fair Grounds [the Allen >Black Cat= Lacombe Memorial S.
Mar. 11] that we will nominate her to and we will also be
looking at the first allowance condition.@ Cont. p4

Proforma | Hodges Photography
! PROFORMA
Third on debut to next out stakes winner Saint=s Fan (Tale of
Ekati) at Churchill Downs Nov. 4, Proforma broke through with a
neck success next out there Nov. 27. The DARRS Inc. runner
concluded his juvenile campaign with a three-length victory in
the Sugar Bowl S. in NOLA last time Dec. 17.
AHe=s doing well. He got caught up in the quarantine, so we
missed a couple of the options we had for him, a stake at the
Fair Grounds and a stake in Houston that we were considering.
The quarantine stopped us from doing either one of those, so we
don=t have anything definite planned, but we will be looking at
coming back in a stake in his next start.@
! R NAJA (f, 3, Exchange Rate)
Third to Diadura in the Arlington-Washington Lassie, R Naja
earned her diploma at fourth asking on the main track at Fair
Grounds Nov. 25, but tired to sixth next out in the Letellier
Memorial S. Dec. 17. The DARRS Inc. colorbearer kicked off her
sophomore season with a victory sprinting over the lawn in
NOLA Feb. 10 (video).
AR Naja is another filly that we think is probably pretty
talented. We think turf is going to be her preferred surface. She=s
another one where we aren=t positive what her best distance is
going to be, but definitely staying on turf.@
! RAPID RHYTHM (m, 5, Successful Appeal)
Privately purchased by DARRS Inc. after RNAing for $19,000 at
the 2016 Keeneland January sale and transferred to Stidham,
Rapid Rhythm won four of her seven starts for those
connections, including the Virginia-bred Oakley S. at Laurel
Sept. 24. The bay was privately purchased yet again by Robert S.
Evans and captured the Battle of New Orleans S. Dec. 3 in her
first outing for her new owner. Cont. p6

! RAPID RHYTHM (m, 5, Successful Appeal)
AWe are pointing for the Mardi Gras S. [Feb. 28]. She is one of
those ones that always
had talent and we just
got here in these one
turn turf races and she
has just blossomed for
us. We are lucky to
have her. I think Mr.
Evans= plan when he
bought her was to
breed her [to Tonalist]
after this race, so this will probably be her last race.@
! SYNCHRONY (c, 4, Tapit)
A two-time winner as a juvenile for previous trainer Donnie
Von Hemel, Synchrony was third in Oaklawn=s Smarty Jones S. at
the start of last year and was a disappointing sixth next out in
the GIII Southwest S. this time last year. Last seen completing
the trifecta in Keeneland=s GIII Lexington S. Apr. 16, the Pin Oak
homebred was transferred to Stidham and is set to make his
first start for his new conditioner Friday in the eighth race at Fair
Grounds.
ASynchrony is a horse of Pin Oak=s that I had never trainedbefore. They felt he wasn=t suited for Oaklawn, which is whereDonnie Von Hemel goes. They didn=t think he liked that track, sothey sent him to me a few months ago and he=s really beentraining well. This will be our first start with him and we areexcited to have him in the barn.@
! ARBOL (f, 3, Elusive Quality) A daughter of MGSW Forest Heiress (Forest Wildcat), who is afull-sister to GISW Wildcat Heir, Godolphin=s Arbol finishedeighth when unveiled over the Fair Grounds main track Jan. 29.The homebred will switch to the turf Friday for her second startin the third race in NOLA. AArbol is a filly of Godolphin=s that ran first time out on the dirt.We felt ultimately with her pedigree and her make up thatsprinting on the grass was going to suit her better. We feel she isgoing to improve off her first start.@
! APPLESOLUTELY TRUE (f, 3, Afleet Alex) Hill >n= Dale Farm homebred Applesolutely True, a son of theSP Applesolutely (Affirmed), will make her career bow againsther stablemate Arbol Friday. AShe has trained well over at the Evangeline training center. She is bred for the grass as well and we think she has a lot ofpotential.@ Cont. p7

! BROOKLINE (c, 3, Tapit)
Godolphin=s Brookline is the final foal out of the late GISW and
Broodmare of the Year Cara Rafaela (Quiet American), who
produced champion Bernardini (A.P. Indy) and GISP Ile de France
(Storm Cat), the dam of MGISW Love and Pride (A.P. Indy). Fifth
on debut in NOLA Dec. 3, the homebred made up ground late to
be third next out Dec. 26. The gray kicks off his 3-year-old
campaign Saturday in the seventh race at the Fair Grounds.
ABrookline has been a bit of a project. He is obviously bred to
be anything, a superstar. We always felt like he has a lot of
talent, but not necessarily giving everything that he=s got. He=s
had a couple starts with blinkers on and we experimented with
taking the blinkers off because in his last start, he actually kind
of almost walked out of the gate. He left slowly and didn=t really
get into the race until really late. He dropped way back and
started making a move late and made up quite a bit of ground.
He=s one of the ones that is a little bit immature mentally and
hasn=t really put it all together, so we are trying him this time
without the blinkers. He=s worked well without them, so we are
hoping this time that with the change in equipment and having a
couple of races under his belt, he is going to come around for us.
He is a good looking horse with a big stride and we are trying to
get him to show what he really can do. Hopefully he will do that
in this race.@
! CHARGED (f, 3, Elusive Quality)
Godolphin=s Charged is out MGSP Kiawah Cat (Lemon Drop
Kid), a half-sister to GSW millionaire Cat O=Mountain (Street Cry
{Ire}), who was third in the G1 Dubai World Cup; and GSW and
MGISP Michita (Dynaformer). Runner-up in her career bow
sprinting over the Arlington turf Aug. 4, the dark bay was a non-
factor seventh last time at Kentucky Downs Sept. 15. The
homebred switched to the dirt and extends to a route of ground
Saturday in ninth race at Fair Grounds.
ACharged is a filly that made her first two starts on the grass,
but her last three or four works here on the dirt during the
quarantine have been really impressive. We are looking forward
to trying her two turns on the dirt. I=m hoping for a big effort@

Dacita Returning for 6yo Season cont. from p1
Bradley continued, AShe=s probably on a schedule to start earlyin the Belmont meet. She couldn=t be doing any better and looksgreat. We=re looking forward to a good year with her. She=s afun one.@ A two-time champion and three-time Group 1 winner in hernative land, Dacita registered a career high in the U.S. byannexing last summer=s GI Diana S. at Saratoga in a blanketfinish (video). She was scratched from the Fasig-TiptonNovember Sale after emerging from her aforementioned effortnorth of the border with a bruised foot. Bred by Haras PasoNevado, Dacita is out of the Chilean Broodmare of the Year Daja(Chi) (Seeker=s Reward) and has posted a career record of 16-9-3-1 and earnings of $1,012,769. She also counts a head victoryover two-time champion Tepin (Bernstein) on her resume in the2015 GII Ballston Spa S. at Saratoga.
ABecause she=s a Southern Hemisphere filly and we didn=t start
running her until she was a 4-year-old up here, we decided that
we=d run her--unless there was some reason not to run her--
through her 6-year-old year,@ Bradley explained. AShe had a little
setback with some bruising in her feet out of the race in Canada
and we just gave her the time she needed. We did enter her in
the sale, but just as a back up in case her problems were more
significant than we had thought.@
GI Breeders= Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Del Mar the year-end
goal and work backwards from there to map out a campaign?
AThat=s the Chad Brown style,@ Bradley concluded with a laugh.
FLORIDA DERBY POSSIBLE FOR EL AREEB ATDN Rising Star@ El Areeb (Exchange Rate), a dominant
winner of both the GIII Jerome S. Jan. 2 and GIII Withers S.
Feb. 4 at Aqueduct, is being considered for a start in
Gulfstream=s GI Florida Derby Apr. 1. Trainer Cathal Lynch isn=t
ruling anything out,
however, as he is
also considering
remaining in New
York for the
GII Wood Memorial
S. or heading to
Keeneland for the
GII Blue Grass S.,
both of which are
Apr. 8.
AThe horse is doing great,@ Lynch remarked. AWe=re very,
very pleased. He=s probably going to work Friday or Saturday.
We=re looking to do a little something because he=s tearing the
barn down. We=ve been going back and forth about the
[GIII] Gotham [S. Mar. 4]; that=s still up in the air. I=m leaning
toward waiting for the Wood or the Blue Grass or the Florida
Derby, which was thrown into the mix the other day. Cont. p9

Florida Derby Possible for El Areeb cont.
Lynch added, A[It=ll be] one of those three preps. We=ll give him
a chance. He=s going to have to step up and prove that that=s
where he belongs, but he=s doing everything right and we=re
happy with him.@
The Florida Derby was put on the table due to timing and it=s
rich history of producing successful runners in the Triple Crown
races, such as 2013 GI Kentucky Derby hero Orb (Malibu Moon)
and last term=s Derby winner Nyquist (Uncle Mo).
AWe=ll look at where everyone else is settling down and where
they=re all looking to go,@ Lynch said. AWith all the good horses,
you=re going to run into them at some point. The Florida Derby
has been a great prep for the Derby. Nyquist came in from
California last year and took that route and it proved very
successful.@
He continued, ASo many things go into play. We=ll finalize our
plans but the horse will dictate everything. That=s always been
our way. It=s the horse first; whatever=s best for the horse.
We=re not taking anything for granted. We=re just keeping our
options open right now. The owners [M M G Stables] and I will
sit down when it gets closer to the time and make a final
decision.@
UNCONTESTED HAS FINAL SOUTHWEST PREP
Smarty Jones S. winner Uncontested (Tiz Wonderful)
completed his preparations for Monday=s GIII Southwest S. at
Oaklawn with a half-mile move in :51 flat (10/11) Tuesday
morning in Hot Springs. The Wayne Catalano pupil completed
his final quarter-mile in :24 and galloped out five furlongs in
1:04.40.
AA lot of trainers do things different ways,@ said Harry
Rosenblum, who owns Uncontested in partnership with Robert
LaPenta. AAnd, what he basically did was he two-minute licked
him a mile and let him finish the last half and he did the last
quarter in :24. So it really wasn=t a half-mile work--as was
posted--but that=s what they caught him, the last half-mile. It
was really a two-minute lick of a mile.@
Smarty Jones runner-up Petrov (Flatter) put in his final breeze
prior to the Southwest Monday, completing five furlongs in 1:00
(2/10) at Oaklawn. The Rialto Racing Stables and Southern
Spring Stables colorbearer completed his final quarter in :22.80
and galloped out six panels in 1:13.
AI=m proud of where we=re at,@ co-owner/trainer Ron Moquett
said. AI=m ready to see what happens.@

GHALIA (f, 3, Medaglia d=Oro--Verdana Bold {GSW, $331,297},
by Rahy), sent off the 3-5 favorite, emerged from an early
scramble for the lead to show the way through fractions of
:22.46 and :45.61 and found more when confronted by a rival to
her outside on the turn. Digging in along the rail in the stretch,
the filly forged clear to score decisively by 1 1/2 lengths over a
late-running Modacious (Uncle Mo). Ghalia, a $600,000 KEENOV
weanling, delivered as the 3-5 favorite in her career unveiling
going a half-furlong shorter Jan. 22. Her third dam is SW &
MGISP Harbour Club (Danzig). Ghalia=s win came three days
after Sumaya U.S. Stable=s >TDN Rising Star= Malagacy

DIAMOND JIM (c, 3, Gemologist--Gregoriana, by Ascot Knight),
a well-beaten sixth after a troubled trip in the same Jan. 4
maiden which produced >TDN Rising Star= Malagacy
(Shackleford), was sent off at 3-1 in this second outing. The dark
bay colt went quickly to the lead, setting fractions of :22.36 and
:46.00 with heavily favored Switzerland (Speightstown) tracking
him just to his outside. Switzerland pulled up on even terms
turning for home, but Diamond Jim repelled his challenge while
appearing to drift out repeatedly despite right-handed
reminders from John Velazquez. Diamond Jim was inching clear
late to score by 3/4 lengths while his head was cocked to the
left. Gregoriana produced a filly by Twirling Candy in 2016 and
was bred back to New Year=s Day. Sales history: $22,000 RNA Ylg

Steve and Jane Beshear Join W.H.O.A.:
Steve Beshear, former Governor of Kentucky, and Jane
Beshear, former
First Lady of
Kentucky, joined
the Water Hay
Oats Alliance in
support of federal
legislation to
bring national
uniformity in
medication
policy. The
Beshears have advocated for the cause publicly, particularly
during their time in office from 2007-2015. The couple offered
the following:
Horses are part of Kentucky's DNA.
Economically, the equine industry--and in particular,
Thoroughbred breeding and racing--is a signature industry on
which thousands of Kentuckians rely for their livelihood.
Culturally, racing is part of not only our heritage but also our
very identity. That's why people call Kentucky the AHorse Capital
of the World.@
So there is no state in this nation with more at stake as the
horse racing industry wrestles with the issue of race-day
medication and its impact on safety, integrity, and trust.
In the years we were Kentucky's Governor and First Lady, we
strongly supported and still support the national reform effort
pushed by the Water Hay Oats Alliance and others to bring rigor
and consistency to the regulation of performance enhancing and
performance-affecting drugs.
My administration took many steps that put us at the forefront
of addressing this issue. But the industry is at the point where
meaningful further progress requires movement on a national
level. We need federal legislation that creates uniform
medication rules as well as common testing rules and
procedures, consistent enforcement and the creation of a
national medication regulatory authority.
As an industry, we must come together behind this effort. Our
future depends upon it.

Dear Breeder,
Thank you for supporting Chitu and making his first season at stud a success in 2016. Chitu’s first foals are starting to arrive, and we are thrilled to report he is stamping them with the same tremendous physical that attracted us to purchase him a few years ago at OBS.
Our confidence has never been higher in Chitu and his potential to be a good sire. We pledge to support him in every aspect of his stallion career, and that includes continuing to reward and incentivize breeders that also support Chitu.
In 2017, we will award 2 breeders with $10,000 cash each through a drawing at the conclusion of the upcoming breeding season. All of our 2017 breeders and Share The Upside Program partners will be eligible for the cash prizes.
We are also offering a Weanling Buy-Back Program this year on a limited, first-come-first-served basis that you may have seen us advertise. These are a couple of things we have going on in an effort to continue to offer the most breeder-friendly programs and incentives in Florida.
We look forward to earning your business, and we wish you the best of luck this breeding season.

GORDON RELISHING NEWROLE WITH PALMER
By Tom Peacock Josephine Gordon will not be moving to France any time soon.Notwithstanding her disappointment over France-Galop'sdecision to propose handing female riders a 2kg (4.4 lbs)allowance in all races beneath Class 1, she is currentlyundergoing her initiation for a golden opportunity as acontracted jockey to Hugo Palmer's stable. This involved a permanent move to Newmarket, having beencrowned last year's champion apprentice from her old base inLambourn. "I feel like I've learned a lot just in the last three weeks sinceI've been there," she said. "In general Newmarket is a lotdifferent in how it's run compared with Lambourn. Before I wasriding out for one or two different trainers a morning but nowI'm riding at Hugo's every day. He has got some really nicehorses, I'm literally riding different ones every day so he can getmy opinion on them. At least I'm going to know them when itcomes to riding them on the track." Palmer, who still has the G1 2000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold(GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}) in his care, was one of the key supportersas Gordon galloped through her claim, riding an exceptional 87winners as she wrestled the apprentice title from TomMarquand.

CHAMPIONSHIP STATUS IN ZABEEL MILE The G2 Zabeel Mile headlines a four graded-stake card at
Meydan on Thursday, and Championship (Ire) (Exceed and Excel
{Aus}) looks to make it back-to-back wins at the Group 2 level.
The winner of the Listed National Day Cup over this trip in Abu
Dhabi in December, the 6-year-old gelding was beaten a neck by
Light The Lights (SAf) (Western Winter) going a furlong further
in the Listed Singspiel S. on Jan. 5, and rebounded when
dropped back to seven furlongs to win the G2 Al Fahidi Fort over
Flash Fire (Ire) (Shamardal) and Noah From Goa (SAf) (Tiger
Ridge) on Jan. 19.
Mike de Kock saddles both Light The Lights and Noah From
Goa, with stable rider Christophe Soumillon opting for the latter.
ABoth mine are very well and should be competitive,@ said de
Kock. ANoah From Goa needed his first run and has certainly
improved from it.@

#ThrowbackThursday: Yeats (Sadler's Wells) and Johnny Murtagh take the 2008 G1 Gold Cup at Ascot. | racingfotos.com
Gordon Relishing New Role With Palmer Cont. from p1 Progress was not always as speedy; it took a lifeline fromtrainer Stan Moore to snap a losing streak lasting nearly twoyears from her debut success in September 2013. The 23-year-old from the tiny North Devon village ofChittlehampton ended up donning the Godolphin colours andriding in the Shergar Cup. "It was as if I woke up and went from having two rides a weekto having five or six in a day," she said. "I thought 'oh, it's goingto slow down a bit,' but it kept coming. It was just like, this is thejockey's life, it's what they do every day. It has happened veryquickly but at the same time it's gone on very long when I thinkabout when I first got my licence and had my first rides." Sitting in the weighing room on a chilly all-weather eveningbefore riding one for Palmer at Kempton feels a lifetime awayfrom the glamour days of Royal Ascot. As Gordon's position islikened to that of John Gosden's trusted foot-soldier Rab Havlin, she accepts that the biggest-race appointments will be beyond
her at present. "I'm only just starting off with Hugo, I've got to earn that," shesaid. "I wouldn't be any William Buick or Frankie Dettori, they'vegot years of experience on me. I hope one day I will get thechance to ride in Group 1 races--Hugo did put me on really nicehorses last year in some big handicap races and that paid off." Gordon, like many of her young contemporaries, is a politeand helpful interviewee. However, given her view on the recentFrance-Galop announcement, it is clear that she will not be shyto offer an opinion if necessary. "I think they've made it into a quite a big deal but it's not overhere," she considered. "I think it is very sexist, I think it'sprobably the biggest sexist thing they could have doneconsidering the last however many years they've been saying it'snot about sexism, girls don't get whatever. It is a bit of adisgrace but if it comes over here, I'll ride to the rules and take itas an advantage. If I ever go to France it works in my favour.@ "For anybody, female or male, I think it's a privilege to ride outyour claim,@ she added. AThere are so many people that don'tafter working so hard, if you're good enough or not. I'm chuffedto bits to have ridden out my claim and I don't want to then behanded back another claim, it's taking another step back. Eventhough it may work in my favour I want to prove myself withoutit."

Gordon Relishing New Role With Palmer Cont.
She believes the British set-up with dedicated jockey coaches
is an initiative that might bring through more female riders on
the other side of the English Channel. "Without [Classic-winning
jockey-turned-coach] John Reid, I'd definitely probably still be a
7lb claimer," she said. "Jane Elliott is banging in the winners
here, it's suddenly clicked for her, Hollie Doyle has only a few
left until she claims 3lb, there's Georgia Cox, Lulu Stanford. If
you think 10 years ago, there were no girls around."
Gordon now finds some of those competitors coming to her
for advice. "I'll always offer some help but I'm still learning
myself aren't I? I'm still going into ask the boys, like George
Baker and Adam Kirby, or Cathy [Gannon] and Hayley [Turner], if
she's around."
There has been scant time to bask in the glory of her
new-found champion status, or to find her own home. "Property
seems to go very quickly," she smiled. Any precious days off are
spent catching up on admin.
"Hugo wanted to kick on from the new year and I couldn't miss
that opportunity. If you're still getting the rides and the winners
you've got to keep going," she said. "It was a huge achievement
but does life feel different? I suppose last year if my agent rang
up and said 'you're riding one for Al Shaqab', that was like
'wow.' I'd say I'm more chilled out about it now."

JUST THE JUDGE FOALS DUBAWI COLT Dual Grade/Group 1 winner Just The Judge (Ire) (Lawman {Fr})
produced her first foal on Tuesday at Tweenhills Stud, a colt by
Dubawi (Ire). The colt is bred by Qatar Racing and China Horse
Club, who combined to purchase the mare for 4.5-million gns at
Tattersalls December in 2014, when she was being offered to
dissolve the partnership of Qatar Racing and the Sangster family.
A i50,000 yearling, Just The Judge was bought privately by
that partnership after winning her first two starts at two, and
she justified that decision when winning the following year=s G1
Irish 1000 Guineas after finishing second in the English version.
She won Woodbine=s GI EP Taylor S. the following year and

PEACEFUL PASSAGE (f, 3, War Front--Flying Passage, by A.P.
Indy), who was last seen finishing sixth over 10 furlongs on
Lingfield=s Polytrack in December, broke well to race with
enthusiasm behind the front quartet. Stoked up for the home
straight, the 11-8 favourite built a head of steam to strip
Tomorrow Mystery (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) of the lead
approaching the furlong pole en route to a decisive 3 1/4-length
score. The winner, who has a foal full-sister to follow, is a half-
brother to sire Soaring Empire (Empire Maker), GSW-US,
$386,393; to Hungry Island (More Than Ready), MGSW &
MGISP-US, $758,704; and to Tokyo Time (Medaglia d=Oro), GSP-

True North H. and whose GII Ladies H.-winning daughter Tara
Roma (Lyphard) was later responsible for the GIII Ack Ack H. and
GIII Turfway Park Fall Championship S.-winning sire Cappuchino

De Kock continued, AIt is probably a shorter than ideal trip for
Light The Lights but he is in great form and this looks a good spot
to run him again before, probably, stepping him up in trip on
Super Saturday.@
Also saddling a pair is Charlie Appleby. In addition to Flash Fire,
the Godolphin trainer sends out the Group 1-placed Cymric
(Kitten=s Joy), winner of a course and distance handicap on Feb.
2.
AFlash Fire produced a career best in the Al Fahidi Fort and has
since produced another strong performance back in a handicap
[when second on Feb. 9],@ said Appleby. He added, AWe were
very pleased with Cymric=s first run and he has come out of that
race in good order. He has solid Group 1 form so, if returning to
anything like that level, he is going to be a serious contender.@

FRENCH FLAIR IN DUBAI MILLENNIUM Thursday=s G3 Dubai Millennium S. at Meydan features a pair
of high-performing runners from France in Elliptique (Ire) (New
Approach {Ire}) and >TDN Rising Star= Zarak (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}).
The former, a Group 3 winner in France and the winner of last
year=s G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis in Germany while trained by
Andre Fabre, was transferred to Dubai trainer Satish Seemar
after a seventh in the G1 Longines Hong Kong Cup in December
and makes his local debut.
Zarak, one of France=s most promising 3-year-olds last year,
failed to fully capitalize on his potential, finishing second behind
Almanzor (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) in both the G1 Prix du
Jockey Club and G2 Prix Guillaume d=Ornano, and the Aga Khan
colourbearer appears here for the first time since finishing third
in the Oct. 1 G2 Prix Dollar for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre.
Godolphin filly Promising Run (Hard Spun) gets a weight break
from the boys and she may just be the one to beat coming off a
victory in the Jan. 26 G2 Al Rashidiya S. Fourth that day was Elite
Excalibur (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), who has since run second
behind the classy Cymric (Kitten=s Joy) in a mile turf handicap on

looking to add her second G2 Balanchine after taking last year=s

The 129-pound
highweight faces
several foes from her

including runner-up
Opal Tiara (Ire)
