Mini Olympics
Last week all children in the school participated in a Mini Olympics house
competition. Grades Prep – 2 had their day on Wednesday and Grades 3-6
were on Friday.
Events included sprinting, hurdles, long jump, high jump, a team game and a
tug- of-war.
It was great to see the children coming dressed in their house colours to
support their teams. It was also pleasing to see many parents attending. Both
days were very successful and the children appeared to enjoy the activities
and the opportunity to compete in their houses.
I was very pleased with the way the children participated; competing in the
spirit of this competition.
It was close for points, with little separating all teams on both days.
However, gold house managed to win with a narrow margin on both days.
A special thank you goes to the house captains, sport captains and the school
captains who assisted with the Prep – 2 day.

OSHC NEWS Notice for the upcoming Curriculum Day. We will not being running a program here at Dorset. However, Antonio Park P.S. service on Maroondah Hwy is taking expressions of interest for this day. If they are able to get enough people interested then they will run a program. We need to know numbers by the end of this week (18/10/2013) before a decision can be made. There is an Expression of Interest list at OSHC for you to enter your child’s name.
The roll is an official document and by law each child must be signed in separately by their parent or guardian. This cannot be a staff member, and it cannot be the children themselves. If a child is attending an out of school activity and needs to leave OSHC, we require written authorization from the parent and for the child to be signed out by the person(s) running the activity.
Fantastic greetings from Chris, Kane and Natalie in the OSHC room.

Chaplain Chat
A frustrated father told a work colleague: "When I was a
youngster, I was disciplined by being sent to my room
without supper. But in my son's room, he has his own
colour TV, computer, games console, cell phone and CD
player." "So what do you do?" The father replied: "I send
him to MY room!"
Last week I spoke with the coordinator for Maroondah Girl
Guides (Ringwood Croydon) later visited the Guide hall -
Bedford Road, East Ringwood, Wednesday night, a great
group with awesome leaders.
Uniform costs can be subsidised on request - well worth
considering as an ongoing activity for your daughter/s. (see
below)
It is so important for young girls and boys to be involved in
outside activities that build social connections, learn skills
and build ongoing friendships.
Please feel free to either phone or drop in as many parents
do. I am here to support, not only your child, but also the
parents and carers in a pastoral role.
I network with a wide range of service providers and can
also refer on if required.
Available Mondays & Tuesdays each week.
Join Girl Guides for Fun, Friendship and Adventure. Girl
Guides is for girls aged 5-17 years and adult volunteers.
Make friends, have fun, learn new skills and leadership,
make a difference in your community.
Expressions of interest welcomed for a new group of Girl
Guides and Girl Guide Leaders in the Ringwood/Croydon
Area.

SWIMMING PROGRAM – Grades 3-6
Next week children in grades 3-6 will be involved with a five
day swimming program at The Croydon Leisure Centre.
Because the children are walking to and from the venue it is
most important that they are prepared for all weather
conditions. A water-proof coat is essential.
Children in grades Prep – 2 will receive notices this week
about their program. It is most important that permission
notices are returned to the school by the due date. Notices
received later create many problems with arrangements.

Dear Parents, Term 4 is well and truly on the way! Each grade is working hard and great work is going on all over the school. Senior Swimming Next week the swimming program begins. Grades 3-6 will be going to the Croydon Leisure at the allocated times. Please note no session will take place before 11am. If you are unaware of your child's swimming time please see your child's teacher. Also refer to the uniform policy regarding swimwear. Parking Gentle reminder to please be careful when dropping from or picking up. There has been ’near misses’ especially in Rescorla Avenue. Take care and be mindful of children and care at all times. SAKG The children are now becoming expert chefs. It is pleasing to see the children engaged and really making many gains from this program. There are still some outstanding accounts it would be greatly appreciated if these could be attended to. The fees enable the staff to ensure the kitchen and garden run efficiently. Transition The 2014 Prep transition program is being very well attended. It’s great to see the 2014 prep parents mingling on a Wednesday afternoon. The prep staff do a terrific job in organising this program. Lining Up Award Mr Jones is coordinating the lining up points again this term. It would be beneficial if you chat to your child and encourage them to try and get the points. The prize is a Bendigo Bank account of $10.00. Well worth lining up for! Cyber Safety Next Tuesday the staff will be attending a Cyber Safety Professional Development session. These sessions are available for parents also see attached flier. Due to the ever changing technology and its use it is essential that parents, teachers, carers etc be aware of the possible outcomes of misusing social media etc and have some strategies on how to tackle the problems it presents. I urge parents to attend this session if possible. Enjoy your week. Please do not hesitate to contact Palma or myself regarding any concerns. Kind Regards,
John Jacobs Principal
