3M Water Infrastructure Coatings 3M™ Scotchkote™ Pipe Renewal Liner 2400

Bring new life to old pipes, affordably and sustainably. Increase flow, preserve water quality, protect pipe integrity – and restore service in as little as one day!

Page 2: Don’t replace, line in place.multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/1333537O/j353000-emd-05-scotchkot… · Don’t replace, line in place. ... of Class B as per BS EN 12689:2002 / BS EN ISO

Communities around the world depend on a safe and steady supply of drinking water. An aging infrastructure, however, poses significant challenges to water providers… and to tight budgets. As pipes age, corrosion and tuberculation build-up can affect water quality, restrict flow, and even cause pipe failure. Replacing affected pipes is costly, disrupts traffic and can leave homes and businesses without water for days. 3M™ Scotchkote™ Pipe Renewal Liner 2400 gives you a time, and cost-saving way to resolve water quality and pipe integrity issues, while reducing the impact on the public.

Scotchkote Liner 2400Scotchkote Liner 2400 is a rapid-set-ting polyurea formulation used to line pipes in situ. It can be applied to pipes of various materials ranging from 4 to 24 inches in diameter. Water utilities and municipalities can use Scotchkote Liner 2400 to rehabilitate and protect existing infrastructure – in less time, for less money and with less hassle than methods that require pipe bypass or replacement. • Protects water quality in certain types of pipe by helping to prevent corrosion and tuberculation• Can repair certain cracks and pinholes and provide structural enhancement • Helps restore and maintain flow by resisting build-up• Minimises disruptions to traffic, businesses and homes

Don’t replace. Renew.

Cleaning and lining restores pipes to near their original diameter, maximising flow and efficiency.

Application process

Scotchkote Liner 2400 exceeds the requirements of Class B as per BS EN 12689:2002 / BS EN ISO 11295:2010: • At appropriate thicknesses, Scotchkote Liner 2400 is projected to have a design life of 50 years• Helps repair cracks, leaks, pin holes and corrosion pitting without replacing the pipe• Helps reduce water loss and improves operation efficiency

Scotchkote Liner 2400 is applied exclusively by 3M Authorised Applicators:

• Authorised Applicators must complete 3M’s Materials and Methods Training Programme• Application equipment is specified and prequalified by 3M• Authorised applicators are required to follow a specified inspection and documentation programme (Programme includes equipment records, lining records and pre and post inspection records)

Strong: Scotchkote Liner 2400, as a 150 mm diameter free standing lining at 3.5mm lining thickness, can withstand, on average, 14 bar (205 psi) of internal pressure before failure. Or at least 190 psi.

Fast: The unique polyurea formulation sets in 10 minutes and reaches full cure in 60 minutes, allowing for same day return to service.

Versatile: Scotchkote Liner 2400 can be applied on ductile iron, cast iron, steel cement mortar lined, PVC and asbestos cement pipes ranging in diameter from 4” to 24”. Pre-existing thin film coal-tar or bituminous coatings may be overlined, provided that any residual coating has been removed as far as reasonably practicable by the mains cleaning process. Asbestos cement pipe and PVC pipe must be lined at thicknesses outlinedin the Scotchkote Liner 2400 Design and Installation Guide.

Reliable: Backed by 3M’s 50 years of pipelining experience and over 100 years of innovation, Scotchkote Liner 2400 is installed only by 3M Authorised Applicators.

Efficient: The liner is installed via a centrifugal application that can eliminate up to 90% of the excavation and reinstatement associated with open cut replacement, reducing overall costs and construction time.

Certified: The 100% solids polyurea formulation is approved under Regulation 31(4) (a) and Regulation 27(4) Scotland, BPA free and contains no VOCs.

Can survive internally or externally induced (burst, bending or shear) failure of host pipe • – – –Long term pressure rating > maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP) • • – – –Inherent ring stiffness • • •Long term hole and gap spanning at MAOP • • • • –Provides internal barrier layer • • • • •

NotesMinimum requirement is for liner to be self supporting when pipe is depressurised.Relies on adhesion to the host pipe to be self supporting when depressurised.Becomes sufficiently close fit for radial transfer of internal pressure stress to host pipe, either during installation or within a short period from initial application of operating pressure. Serves as barrier to corrosion, abrasion and / or tuberculation / scaling of host pipes, and to contamination of pipe contents by host pipe; also generally reduces surface roughness for improved flow capacity.Scotchkote Liner 2400 is not designed to be a Class A Lining (BS EN 13689: 2002 / BS EN ISO 11295: 2010) and may not survive external dynamic loading events.

Notes• If dry drag scraping is employed, the subsequent use of water jetting can be beneficial in removing debris from the pipe wall.• If rack feed boring or drag scraping is used as a cleaning method, plunging and swabbing should be undertaken in order to remove any residual debris and water from the pipe.• If the pipe substrate is asbestos cement (AC), recommended cleaning methods include forced air vortex cleaning with water instead of aggregate, water jetting at lower pressures, or non-abrasive swabbing.

How it works

Pipe Rehabilitation with Scotchkote Liner 2400

1. Prep the site Access pits (6 x 8 ft.) are excavated. Scotchkote Liner 2400 is applied in sections via a trenchless process that minimises the number of water customers affected at any one time.

2. Clean the pipe A mechanical cleaning process (e.g. drag scraping with waterjetting) is used to remove scale and tuberculation build-up, restoring original pipe diameter. The pipe is inspected prior to lining.

3. Apply the lining A spin-cast process is used to apply Scotchkote Liner 2400. The liner reaches full cure in 60 minutes, so sections can often be cleaned, lined and returned to service in a single day.

4. Inspect the pipe A full CCTV inspection can be conducted 10 minutes after liner application. Service connections are not typically blocked during lining, but can be quickly reinstated with a robotic cutter if necessary (2–3 minutes/connection).

5. Restore service The pipe is flushed (30 minutes) and reconnected, the access pits are filled and paved, and equipment is easily demobilised by the end of the day. Traffic returns to normal flow. Disinfection is completed in accordance with local regulations.
