Celebrating 2016 Thanks to your generous support we can take a look back at 2016 with much to celebrate and look ahead with excitement.

Here are just a few ways your support impacts our community:

• Picnic in the Park boasted the biggest crowds in 12 years with 300-400 people attending weekly. “The weather was amazing this year and the bands were phenomenal. The fan favorite was the Beatles Tribute Band. Concert-goers danced and sang along. Everyone had a blast,” said, Lisa Morgan, planning committee chair.

• Facebook Prineville Data Center’s 2016 Local Community Action Grants administered by the Crook County Foundation, funded 15 non-profit organizations and schools. These short-term, high impact projects included new technology to improve access for students to expand online classes, orthodontic treatment for low-income children, financial literary classes for middle and high school students, and helping Latino high school students graduate and attend college.

• The Crook County Cultural Coalition awarded $7,500 in grants through the Crook County Foundation this year to local projects related to the arts, heritage and humanities. Recipients were Picnic in the Park, Prineville Music Theater Camp, Powell Butte Charter School Choir and Crook County High School Arts.

Your support of the Crook County Foundation makes all these projects, and more, possible for our community. Thank you for your commitment to the betterment of Crook County. We encourage you to make a special year-end contribution to help us meet our $10,000 goal.

New Scholarship Available to Students in 2017Setting up a scholarship fund is a great way to create your legacy or honor the legacy of a loved one. Kevin and Christie Barcelona decided to honor Christie’s grandmother Lucie Morrison of Prineville by

establishing the Lucie Morrison Scholarship. Lucie is a long-time resident of Crook County. She moved with her family to the United States from Poland and as an immigrant experienced many hardships. She values education and desires to see new Americans attain a college degree. Partnering with Paddy Pint Run The Prineville Paddy Pint Run, organized by Dr. Tony Ramos, is an annual walk/

run event hosted on St. Patrick’s Day. You may have noticed a parade of green participants touring the town as they make their way to the finish. Last year 325 community members raised $10,000 to support the Tooth Taxi, a dental office on wheels that visits Prineville schools multiple times a year providing free dental care and education to children.

“Our children suffer more dental pain and infection than children in almost any other state. This isn’t just a cosmetic issue. Poor oral health affects overall health” said Dr. Ramos. Starting in 2017 Dr. Ramos and the Crook County Foundation are partnering as the Paddy Pint Run grows into a staple community event.

What’s Brewing? Begins Evening Forum October marked the kick-off of our 7th season of What’s Brewing? New this year the Crook County Chamber of Commerce, Prineville-EDCO and COCC Small Business Development have joined the Crook County Foundation to offer a monthly after-hours forum. Welcome Our New Executive Director Daleena Green, our new executive director, began work in September. Daleena brings to the Foundation ten-plus years of experience working with non-profits and has been active in our community since she moved to Prineville in 2008. Daleena said, “I am excited to be a part of the Crook County Foundation. We share the same values- community, education, leadership development and the arts.”

Celebrating Impacts of the GeneroCity ProjectThe GeneroCity project began in 2006 when community churches came together and raised $12,500 to help provide basic necessities to elementary-aged children and families in crisis. Cheri Rasmussen, Crooked River Elementary School principal, shared, “I remember a family who lived in

a travel trailer. They ran out of propane in the middle of winter. They had no money. We were able to give them money from the GeneroCity Project to fill their tanks and heat their shelter.” Many stories like this were made possible by the generosity of those who created this fund. The Crook County Foundation can help you and/or your group establish a fund to meet a community need. Contact us to learn more.
