Famous foods of Don Wai Floating

Market

There is a very good selection of dried

fish and all kinds of prepared seafood, fish,

crustacean and mollusk: one of these consists of

smaller, whole fish floating in a dark sauce called

“Tom Kham”.

You will see a lot of duck here; from

roast duck to a Chinese-style duck stew called

“Ped Phalo”.and you can also eat at a restaurant

on a deck by the river that sells great duck

noodles.

There is a well-kept secret in Thai

cooking called “Nahm Prik” selling on the

entrance of market. This is a pre-made chili

pastes (both wet and dry) that can transform

simple ingredients into a one-dish meal.

As you enter the market from the

parking lot, you go through a section with

fresh produce, some very good-looking

fresh fruit such as pomelo, jack-fruit,

mango and, banana. As well as, section that

has dried fish, prepared food and

merchants making various “Thai Kanom

“(snacks) right there. There is a seller in

this section that has great “PlaSom”

(fermented fish) that you take home and

fry up crispy. There are a wide variety of

sweets or “Kanom Wahn” available at Don

Wai, as at all Thai markets. They sell from

Thai coconut treats to Chinese sweets such

as coconut pudding, grass jelly, and Thai

custard.

The market has old wooden buildings

built beside the Ta Jeen River in the King

Rama 6's reign. There are many local

merchants bring agricultural goods such

as coconut, jack-fruit and, pomelo from

07.00 to 18.00 everyday. There are boat

services along the river scenery.

Initially, in previous era of traffic and

trade waterway, Don Wai Floating

Market was a community that was not

big or famous. But the market has

become famous since the year 2542-2543

after a team of Thairath newspaper

published stories of Don Wai Floating

Market to the public.
