REPEAT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Blue Ribbon School!

Alconbury MHS is PROUD to recognize Alconbury Elementary as a National Blue Ribbon School! Please

see details below.

School Safety Schools practice lockdown drills, the same way we practice fire drills and other safety procedures throughout the school day. Lockdown drills are a regular part of every school in DoDEA’s safety plan. “Throughout the school year, schools should have practice drills so that students and staff become familiar with the emergency procedures. By knowing the lockdown procedures, and taking the practice drills seriously, you can keep yourself and others safe” Best Practices for Campus and School Lockdown Procedures

We do not announce the date and time of our Lockdown Drills as an added safety precaution. We do work very closely with base security on our procedures. Teachers do know ahead of time and have the authority to make sure that some individual students who may become extremely anxious are aware. School Advisory Committee SAC

Permission Slip

Dear Parents,

Girl Up is a program that empowers those around us to get involved and take action so that all girls,

no matter where they live, may reach their full potential. This program focuses on the five core pillars

(Education, Health, Free From Violence, Leadership, and Count) to support a generation of girl leaders

to take action in their local and global communities to advance progress for girls everywhere on these

pillars. To learn more about the Girl Up Program, visit GirlUp.org/impact.

For this club, Youth Programs will be utilizing the I AM MALALA: A Toolkit for After-school Clubs

materials. The goal of this toolkit is to foster a healthy environment for sharing ideas and

experiences, not to put anyone on the spot, or be made to feel exposed or unsafe. Below are the

themes we will be covering each month. In addition to the themes, the club will plan and host special

events which may include, film screenings, fundraisers, late nights, and lock-ins.

The Girl Up Club will be offered to Open Recreation and Teen girls aged 9-18.

1. October/November: Memoir as Literature

2. December: Education: A Human Right for Girls

3. January: Cultural Politics, Gender, and History

4. February: Religion and Religious Extremism

5. March: Malala and Violence Against Women and Girls

6. April: Malala and Leadership

7. May: Malala and the Media

8. June: Global Feminisms: Speaking and Acting about Women and Girls

Youth Center. The club will meet once a month unless posted otherwise. Further club dates will be

based on staffing availability and schedules. Club members will be notified of any changes.

If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns about the Girl Up program and your daughters

participation, please contact Ms. Emily Dewey at 268-3604.
