ON In this unit we have provided a 2 min audio-visual

production through the use of industry relevant audio and moving image software. Original sound design is fully synce d to the original moving image production in order for a whole project can be produced. A brainstorm process was conducted in order to create innovative concepts for the final production.

The conclusions for this production proves that we have fully understood terminology and techniques suggested during lectures, and competently handled the required technology and equipment in the light of producing a high quality production

IDEA GENERATION.

The initial step towards completing this production project is to brainstorm as much as ideas as possible. As a team, we all wanted to create an abstract yet effective storyboard. Suggested ideas were to try and keep a dark background so that the subject won’t be easily recognized by the audience. Later on the idea of having a subject that was being tortured or scared was appreciated by the whole group. More suggestions were brought up, the effective aims were noted, while others were left aside. Other aims included a controversial concept about the insides of the gentlemen’s club, creeps on the loose, torture and sex related subject. Potential ideas were generating, and the story was slowly looking more whole and complete. We decided to hold on to a few ideas such as having a creep for a main subject, being chased by some creature and being tied up by chains and ropes. When it comes to sound, there will be more attention to details such as the movements of chains, heavy breathing, and stretching ropes.

STORYBOARDING.

After the idea generation was complete, the team had an idea on what the story was going to be about. Following this a storyboard had to be created to have, and even clearer idea of the shots and angles we were going to use for the filming and sound production. This will serve as a plan for when we get to the day of filming.

SCOUTING.

Once the initial steps have been cleared out, the team had to start thinking about starting to scout for a competent location that would match our requirements. Considerable locations where the Jerma abandoned hotel and the abandoned hotel rooms found at the White Rocks. The team’s final decision was The Jerma Hotel because it had better lighting for the filming session. Besides the location, the search started again for the main character which would make the narration more sense. Samuel Cali was the chosen person for this role.

FILMING & RECORDING.

Now the team needed to move on to filming. Canon 650D and 550D were booked and prepared together with the Zoom H2 Handy Recorder for recording the sound effects. On the 13th April, we were all set to start of with the filming at the Jerma Hotel in Marsascala. The initial step was to check for places that had best lighting for the camera, and that were most suitable for our concept. Once the position has been decided, we were required to start preparing the set for film and sound recording. Camera settings were adjusted in order to create the desired effect. Along with the camera setting the team also had to adjust the Pocket Recording, and the Boom Microphone to get all the required sound effects in a high definition. The team recorded the sound of the chains and ropes getting stretched. The heavy breathing of the main actor that will make the filming more effective. The footsteps, along with other sounds effects that would bring the whole production come together.

EDITING FILM.

This is almost the final part to conclude this project. This step is all about the editing of the footage taken in the previous pages. When editing the film one has to be carful to make cuts were necessary at the right time of the video and edit them to an other footage in order to make science or achieve the team’s goal. During the scequence, the editor has to take note of the sound that is recorded during the film and make some small adjustments be more pleasing to the ear.

28

Editing Sound.

The final step is to transfer the sound in Pro Tools sound software. There were several recordings that had to be edited in order to create an eerie effect through out the whole sequence. As for the ambience sound, the sequence had different sounds including a crackling effect, distortions, reverse and Reverb effect to make it more effective and add more suspense. The other sound effects included the footsteps of the main character which were exaggerated on purpose, heaving breathing when he had the gas mask on to make it even eerier. A lot of the sounds was transformed from mono to stereo including the sounds of the creature.
