Documentaries Purpose
A documentary film is must necessary have information about factual topics, such as in our documentary we have facts on death rates, the type of illnesses. These films have a variety of aims, firstly the warning by showing the effects and to inform viewers about it’s seriousness.
Actuality
Actuality as a way to have a f ly on the wall effect, which al lows to be fi lming and having the person act normally without scripts for genuine reactions .
Voiceover
• The voice-over in a documentary is to guide the viewers what is happening, they’re the ones who explains a situation and offers opinions, but also ask the viewer questions that will leave them to reflect on.
Exposition
• Uses rhetoric and passes on information in order to persuade the viewer to change their lifestyle for the better.
• Narration is to guide it’s role is very important as it guides the person watching it. For example Charlotte was our objective voice over for the whole documentary.
• Narration I find must have a sense of structure of a problem, pros and cons and then solution. This is commonly used as a method of explaining about a documentary’s content.
Interviews
• The interview is a common used in documentaries as they allow general people and experts give their side of the argument that has their own opinion and facts.
• The interviewer answers the questions and expanding upon it, people normally believes what they say depending on the account they give.
• Interviews with the general public are known as ‘Vox pops’.
Archival footage
• These footages are using materials from the internet, for example if you need a shot of farms or riots or television advertise, it’s much easier to get it from the internet.
