Upcoming Events & Classes

Beginning Genealogy - Free!

• Did you start your family research but are stuck on where to look for information? Did you resolve to renew your genealogical research? Want some new ideas or to be reminded of good processes? Join us for our free February Beginning Genealogy class to get some inspiration!

Registration is now open for our new monthly study group which follows the book Mastering Genealogical Proof by Thomas W. Jones. The cost is $50, which will cover the entire course of study. We will host two groups, both on Zoom. The options are meeting the 2nd Monday of the months or the 4th Wednesday of the months at 7:00 p.m. Central. Remember, obtaining a copy of the book is a requirement of this course. Participants are expected to read the chapters and complete homework.

IGS 2022 Spring Conference

Iowa Genealogical Society is pleased to announce registration for the 2022 Spring Conference!

• Non-Member's cost is $75.00

• Lunch at IGS will be catered by In The Bag. This is an optional add-on during registration.

• If you have a written any of the following, please consider submitting to [email protected] to be considered as part of our Hawkeye Heritage publication.

• IGS is looking for volunteers for additional library attendants for Tuesday evenings and Saturdays.

• Please reach out to Tony at [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering.

• Just a reminder that IGS is a FamilySearch Affiliate Library.

• Affiliate libraries have enhanced access on-site to FamilySearch's digital genealogical collections, providing access to some databases that would otherwise be accessible only through a FamilySearch family history center.

• FamilySearch also provides its affiliates with the latest tools and tips for genealogy reference librarians.

• To access the additional collection you need to be physically at IGS and utilize their computers or login to the FamilySearch website from your personal computer using IGS' Wi-Fi.

Reminder: IGS is closed when the Des Moines Public Schools are closed due to weather.
