A comprehensive range of chemicals, testing apparatus

facilities in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

When choosing how to sanitise your water, its worth contemplating options other than chlorine, such as bromine or even halogen free options such as AquaSPArkle O

2 Gentle. Generally, all sanitisers

Metal Klear put to the testBlue Horizons Metal Klear is not your average metal remover. It contains zero phosphates (which some metal treatments can

contain) so won’t encourage algae growth. Metal Klear is an advanced formula for chelating (sequestering) iron, copper and

manganese. If metal staining can be found on the pool floor, sprinkle Blue Horizons Natural Stain Remover directly onto the

stain to help ‘lift’ the stain off the pool surface, then apply Blue Horizons Metal Klear.

The pictures below were taken by a local service company. The pool had a copper reading over 5mg/l. Three days after the

addition of Metal Klear, a couple of backwashes and a vac to waste and the pool water is totally transformed.

The importance of phosphate removal and controlRecovering an algae infested pool can be time consuming and expensive, which is why algae prevention is always preferable to

2 Gentle Initial Dose: Once you have commissioned your hot tub, apply an

initial dose of O2 Gentle Liquid and Granules to your hot tub. Allow 5 minutes for the

O2 Gentle products to circulate before using your spa.

STEP 2 – ONGOINGPrior to spa use: Prior to using your spa, add 15g (approx. 1 blue scoop) of O

2 Gentle

Granules per 1,000 litres of spa water directly into the spa with the pump(s) running. Allow 5 minutes for the granules to dissolve before using your spa.

AquaSPArkle Bromine Pod provides continuous in-line sanitation

by producing active bromine to kill bacteria and potentially

harmful organisms. The AquaSPArkle Bromine Pod has made

caring for your hot tub water even easier. The in-line Bromine

Pod delivers enough bromine directly into your hot tub water

without the need to measure or handle chemicals and deliver

consistent sanitiser dosing. All combining to make your hot tub

experience more enjoyable than before with clearer safer water.

The AquaSPArkle Bromine Pod is designed to be flexible and can

be installed in a number of ways:

Attach the AquaSPArkle Bromine Pod to the chemical dispenser frame or chamber using the adaptor clip provided. Ensure that the AquaSPArkle Bromine Pod is firmly attached to the adaptor clip, and the adaptor clip is firmly attached to the chemical dispenser frame.

USE IN A BUILT-IN PROPRIETARY HOT TUB DOSING SYSTEM (OR FRAME)

To install the AquaSPArkle Bromine Pod into an open ended cartridge filter lower the Pod ensuring the top is upright, until it rests onto the Pod retainer grid. Then install the cartridge filter in the hot tub.

USE WITH A DARLLY SANISTREAMTM OPEN-TOP FILTER, OR OPEN-TOP FILTERS FITTED WITH A STOPPER DEVICE IN THE CENTRE OF THE CARTRIDGE

Retainer grid to prevent pod from damaging hot tub

To install the AquaSPArkle Bromine Pod into a cartridge filter of the closed-cap type, first twist the handle anti-clockwise and remove the cap.

Install the AquaSPArkle Bromine Pod in the cartridge filter cap by locating the two protruding lugs on the top of the Pod into the underside of the cap, then twist until it clicks to lock the pod in place.

Insert the AquaSPArkle Bromine Pod and cap assembly into the cartridge filter by locating the lugs of the cap into the slots, then twisting clockwise to lock the cap into the cartridge filter. Then return filter to the hot tub.

USE WITH A DARLLY SANISTREAMTM HANDLE-TOP CARTRIDGE FILTERS, OR OTHER CARTRIDGE FILTERS THAT CONTAIN A CAP THAT ACCOMMODATES THE CLIP-IN OF THE POD LUGS

Ensure used with a compatible cartridge filter

We recommend use of cartridge filter with a retainer grid fitted for spa protection

It takes a while for bromine tablets to begin to dissolve so it may be appropriate to first shock treat to immediately establish chlorine or bromine residuals. Add the appropriate amount of Spa Rapid Shock as per product label dosing instructions. Always test your hot tub water prior to use and maintain bromine levels between 4 to 6 mg/l (ppm).

(this initial shock dose applies when using the AquaSPArkle Bromine Pod in any of the 3 installations).

inSPAration fragrances are formulated specifically for self-

contained whirlpool systems (Hot Tubs). inSPAration fragrances are

safe for all filters, jets, motors, pumps and surfaces, inSPAration

will not affect your water chemistry. These fragrances are

compatible with many types of water sanitizing products, Bromine,

Chlorine, AquaBlanc, Ozone, Enzymes and many other forms of

mineral and non-chlorine sanitisers.

Question: What if I experience cloudy water?

Answers: inSPAration products do not affect water

chemistry. If you experience cloudy water after hot tub use,

we recommend you check your water balance and filtration.

Many of our partners provide water testing on site and can support

any water problems you may have.

Questions: Can I use it in my bath tub?

Answer: The team have tried them and love them (although

there is an ongoing argument on our favourite scent).

inSPAration fragrances are a great bath product we recommend

using our fragrances in any jetted or non-jetted bath, the skin

softening emollients add to any hot water experience.

Question: Can I use high street bath bombs in my hot tub?

Answer: No we would not recommend this.

Using high street bath bombs in hot tubs can create a huge mess

quickly. With the power of the jets foam will form quickly and will

eventually bubble over the side (This can leave oil/colour streaks

down the outside walls that are difficult to remove).

inSPAration SpaBombs do not have the oils or colours that other

high street bath bombs include. They are water soluble so you are

left with a clean hot tub with no effect on water chemistry.

Question: Do your Hydro Therapies Sport RX Liquids contain

oils that could upset my water balance?

Answer: No.

The liquids are water soluble and contain no oils.

Aquablanc Non-Chlorine Chemicals

Most pools and hot tubs now include a pump and filter (either sand or cartridge) as standard. It is a combination of

circulating water through the filter, together with good chemical water treatment that helps you to maintain clear, clean

and healthy water. Chemicals, for example, breakdown bacteria in organic matter and wastes but the resulting by-products

need to be removed effectively via the filtration plant. Aquablanc products are no exception to this rule.

Continuous flocculation - Flocdos SystemContinuous flocculation is a process of binding impurities in the swimming pool water into larger particles which are not big enough to be trapped in a conventional filtration system. By adding the liquid flocculent via the Flocdos pump as a filter aid this will also help to improve the water quality and clarity

It is strongly recommended by the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG) and importantly it is a highly effective method of dealing with chlorine resistant infections such as cryptosporidium (a highly infectious organism that causes chronic cases of severe diarrhoea).

FlocPAC SUPER is the perfect product to be administered via the Flocdos + pump

HOW DOES IT WORK?The hth® Easiflo feeder produces a Calcium Hypochlorite solution on demand from the automated control unit. The hth® Easiflo briquettes are placed inside the hopper of the feeder. When the auto control indicates a need for chlorine, filtered pool water is directed onto the briquettes via the patented spray system. This produces a stable chlorine solution, which is then drawn into the pool circulation under vacuum created by the venturi, along with a full washdown system to keep regular maintenance to a minimum.

Spas/Hot Tubs

Microbiological samples for indicator organisms should be

taken once a month as routine and quarterly for Legionella.

More frequent sampling may be required depending on the

risk assessment.

The spa pool manager has the responsibility for ensuring

that microbiological samples taken are at the appropriate

intervals and the results recorded in the spa pool log book

together with any remedial actions and follow up samples

following an adverse report.

Swimming Pools

In order to establish that the pool is without risks to the

health of those using it, pool operators will need to ensure,

under COSHH Regulations, that they have adequately

controlled the risks from exposure to micro-organisms. To

do this, adequate disinfecting of the pool will need to take

place and bacteriological sampling will be required.

Bacteriological sampling will need to be taken monthly in

pools in use all year round.

More frequent sampling may be required depending on the

risk assessment.

Constant checking of the correct disinfection level and pH

value will ensure the bacteriological quality of a well run

pool. Bacterial levels should be zero (or near zero) as a

‘baseline’.

More frequent samples will be necessary where a

deterioration in water quality occurs. Pools that are less

frequently used should be checked before use and then

monthly throughout their operational period.

CPC provides a Microbiological Water Analysis Service in accordance with current HSE guidelines. It is a minimum requirement

that a UKAS accredited laboratory performs a monthly bacteriological test and a quarterly test for legionella when pool and

spa water is made available to the public. This includes hot tubs used as part of a holiday let and hot tubs on display.

Biocide BPRCalcium Hypochlorite and Sodium hypochlorite are now annexed (listed) products under BPR as per I and 2 below.

Effectively this means that by the middle of 2020, all products offered to the market, will require labels to include registered BPD authorised numbers, relating to authorised products. Product name variants, such as Liquid Shock or Shock granules, will go through a sub-registration system that effectively links the various product names to the “master“ substance authorisation.

Resume of BPR requirements:-1. ‘From 1 September 2015, a biocidal product consisting of, containing, or generating a relevant substance, cannot be made available on the EU

market if the substance supplier or product supplier is not included in the Article 95 list for the product type(s) to which the product belongs.

2. As specific Biocides products become listed (or annexed) each individual annexed substance, will require full support toxicological packages to be registered and ECHA approved, to remain on the European market. Already copper sulphate is an annexed product, under this scheme.’

Implications: Through working and investing closely with our European partner(s), CPC is preparing itself to ensure most of its key Biocide products are supported through both the demands of article 95 and more crucially through the process of Biocide Product annexation, as and when these become listed.

Whilst CPC customers can be assured that we expect full compliance, we strongly recommend to all in the industry to ensure that their chemical supplier is also preparing to meet these new enforceable Biocide regulations, by supplying appropriately registered product(s).

PS. Biocides are classified as products that kill living organisms, including Algae and Bacteria.

BISHTA Hot Tub & Swim Spa Water Hygiene Management Training Course

Complete Pool Controls is an accredited training provider for BISHTA whose aim is to “Promote Safe Hot Tub Standards” throughout the hot tub and swim spa industry.

This one-day training course offers practical and technical advice to individuals working in the industry. Suitable for retailers, service engineers, holiday park operators and holiday let owners.

The course syllabus is devised to provide candidates with the knowledge and expertise to safely maintain a hot tub and swim spa both in “domestic” and “business settings”.

Regular courses are held in-house at our training facility near Cheltenham and at locations throughout the UK. We also offer external courses (maximum 10 delegates) to suit your company’s individual needs.

Completion of this one-day course is a requirement for companies applying to become a member of BISHTA.
