The latest comes Thursday, July 16, on NBC, when the cast of “30 Rock” regroup for an hourlong program titled simply “30 Rock.” Filmed remotely (of course), it doubles as an introduction to NBC Universal’s 2020-21 lineup of new series in what it calls “a first-of-its-kind all-audience upfront event.” Few other details were available at this writing except for the fact that regulars from the 2006-13 sitcom about the behind-the-scenes goings on at a sketch comedy series – among them Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer – will be involved. “ ‘30 Rock’ has always celebrated the battle between art and commerce,” series executive producer Robert Carlock says. “We thought we’d come back one last time and declare a clear winner.” The special will then be rebroadcast on USA Network, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, Syfy and CNBC and be available to stream on NBCU’s new service Peacock on Friday, July 17 – two days after the streamer’s launch. Filmed remotely, it starred Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, Jim O’Heir and Retta. “The Office”: In May, John Krasinski brought his castmates from the 2005-13 NBC sitcom – including Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer and Mindy Kaling – back together for an amusing, albeit brief post-wedding dance following a virtual wedding for a Maryland couple on his weekly life-in-lockdown YouTube series “Some Good News.” It also featured country artist Zac Brown performing a song he wrote just for the occasion. Needless to say, the couple were blown away. “Melrose Place”: The pandemic also inspired the April reunion of the 1992-99 Fox nighttime soap, with series stars Josie Bissett, Thomas Calabro, Marcia Cross, Laura Leighton, Doug Savant, Grant Show, Andrew Shue, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Daphne Zuniga and Heather Locklear talking about old times via video chat for Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley’s web series, “Stars in the House.” “Desperate Housewives”: Rudetsky and Wesley were at it again in April, this time virtually reuniting Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross, Dana Delany, Renee Perry and Brenda Strong to reminisce about making the 2004-12 ABC drama for “Stars in the House.” Notably absent were Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher. “Frasier”: The love was still evident 16 years later in this April installment of “Stars in the House,” as Kelsey Grammer, David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, Peri Gilpin and Dan Butler, among others, got virtually together to talk about their lives, making the much- lauded 1993-2004 NBC comedy series and working with their late co-star John Mahoney. Reunion specials are nothing new but in the age of the pandemic, they’ve become prolific and virtual.

“We thought we’d come back one last time and declare a clear winner.”

The special will then be rebroadcast on USA Network, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, Syfy and CNBC and be available to stream on NBCU’s new service Peacock

on Friday, July 17 – two days after the streamer’s launch.

It joins a laundry list of other recent cast reunions, including the following.

“Parks and Recreation”: The challenging times of 2020 catalyzed the storyline for the special that aired on NBC this past April 30, which showed how the residents of Pawnee, Ind., were coping with the isolation and social distancing wrought by the pandemic.

“Melrose Place”: The pandemic also inspired the April reunion of the 1992-99 Fox nighttime soap, with series stars Josie Bissett, Thomas Calabro, Marcia Cross, Laura Leighton, Doug Savant, Grant Show, Andrew Shue, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Daphne Zuniga and Heather Locklear talking about old times via video chat for Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley’s web series, “Stars in the House.”

“Desperate Housewives”: Rudetsky and Wesley were at it again in April, this time virtually reuniting Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross, Dana Delany, Renee Perry and Brenda Strong to reminisce about making the 2004-12 ABC drama for “Stars in the House.” Notably absent were Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher.

“Frasier”: The love was still evident 16 years later in this April installment of “Stars in the House,” as Kelsey Grammer, David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, Peri Gilpin and Dan Butler, among others, got virtually together to talk about their lives, making the much-lauded 1993-2004 NBC comedy series and working with their late co-star John Mahoney.

Ford keeps ‘The Fugitive’ running Ford keeps ‘The Fugitive’ running

“Morning Glory” (2010): With seemingly minimal effort, Ford is absolutely hilarious as a veteran television newsman who growls his resistance over becoming a morning show co-anchor.

“Air Force One” (1997): Ford looks presidential but plays tough as the United States’ chief executive fights terrorists who hijacked his airplane.

“The Fugitive” (1993): Displaying just the right amount of desperation, Ford assumes David Janssen’s iconic television role as Richard Kimble, the doctor on the run after being wrongly accused of killing his wife.

“Patriot Games” (1992): Following Alec Baldwin (“The Hunt for Red October”) in the part, Ford redefines the role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan in his first of two adventures based on the Tom Clancy espionage novels.

“Presumed Innocent” (1990): Ford underplays ideally as an attorney accused of killing a colleague with whom he had an extramarital affair.

“Working Girl” (1988): Light comedy suits Ford well in this Mike Nichols-directed treat, casting him a merger specialist who helps a secretary posing as her temporarily incapacitated boss.

“Witness” (1985): Many moviegoers came to understand the Amish via this drama, with Ford as a police detective hiding from corrupt peers.

“Blade Runner” (1982): With his dour, cynical attitude as Replicant-chasing cop Rick Deckard, Ford does much to inform director Ridley Scott’s bleak view of the future.

“Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981): With bullwhip in hand, Ford made Indiana Jones an instant icon.

“Star Wars” (1977): Ford blasted off into stardom as reluctant hero Han Solo in the saga’s first fantasy, later rechristened the fourth chapter.

Harrison Ford’s Top 10 Movies

“Imax: Journey To Space” With astronauts having gone back to the cosmos recently in the first U.S. space launch in some time, there might be extra interest now in this documentary, making its DVD debut along with some other features made for the immersive IMAX theatrical format. None other than “Jean-

Luc Picard” himself, Patrick Stewart, is the appropriate narrator as the focus is placed on the space shuttle program and its achievements – including its role in such projects as the Hubble Space Telescope and the International Space Station. Capping the program is a projection of a mission to Mars, which would see travelers remain

on the so-called “red planet” for a reasonably long period of time. ››› (Not rated) (Also on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD)

“The Magicians: Season Five” After recently concluding its run, this Syfy show puts forth its fifth and final round on home video. The last set of stories begins with a meteor shower that indicates something has gone haywire in the realm of magic ... but in a more immediate level for the regular characters, the fate of some of them hangs in the balance, a situation that runs right up to the closing moments of the series finale. Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta and Summer Bishil are among cast members who saw the show through from its start to its finish. A “Complete Series” set also is available. ››› (Not rated: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray)

“Ride With Norman Reedus, Series 1” His success with “The Walking Dead” helped cast member Reedus land his own AMC series, a documentary of sorts in which he joins other motorcycling enthusiasts to discuss various aspects of the biker culture, often while they’re literally on the road. Among his guests in this freshman season was someone who personified the theme for many people ... the since-deceased Peter Fonda, iconic for his starring role in the movie “Easy Rider.” Balthazar Getty and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez also are featured. The show, which has gone on

to feature many more stars and their bikes, has been renewed for a fifth season. ››› (Not rated: AS, P) (Also on Blu-ray)

“Kobe: Life Of A Legend” Tributes surely were bountiful when basketball icon Kobe Bryant died with several others, very sadly including his daughter Gianna, in a helicopter crash last January. This documentary also recalls the athlete’s life and times, which encompassed many milestones during his two decades with the Los Angeles Lakers ... including five NBA championships. Hios not-always-smooth relationship with teammate Shaquille O’Neal is considered, as are his Summer Olympics stints that brought him two Gold Medals as a member of the USA National Men’s Basketball Team. He also was an Oscar winner for writing and narrating the animated short subject “Dear Basketball.” ››› (Not rated)

“Queen Elizabeth Ii: End Of A Reign” It’s not over yet, so the title of this documentary is jumping ahead by foretelling the closure of the British monarch’s very storied time on the throne. Certainly, there is a lot to recount from the time she began her tenure in 1952 right up to this year, when her speech to her subjects and the world about the coronavirus pandemic received as much attention – if not more – than her much-anticipated Christmas messages. For the staid image she always has projected, Elizabeth’s

reign hasn’t always been free of scandal, a notable example (cited here, of course) being her famously strained connection to Princess Diana. ››› (Not rated)

“12 Monkeys: The Complete Series”Inspired by the movie, this Syfy show had a fairly healthy run, lasting four seasons. Using the same basic premise, it casts Aaron Stanford as a fugitive from the future, sent to the present day by those behind the so-called “Project Splinter” to eliminate the cause of a plague that eventually will wipe out mankind. A doctor (Amanda Schull) helps him, but only partially willingly, since assisting him sometimes forces her to go against her professional oath. The regular cast also includes Kirk Acevedo, Noah Bean, Emily Hampshire and Barbara Sukowa. The movie’s Charles Roven also was an executive producer here. ››› (Not rated: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray)

If “The Fugitive” isn’t the best movie based on a television series, it sure is close.

Not only does director Andrew Davis’ 1993 version of the drama – which AMC shows Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 and 15 – hold true to the basics of the original show, it expands on them sensationally, adding significant depth to wrongly accused Dr. Richard Kimble’s (Harrison Ford) perilous pursuit of the one-armed man (Andreas Katsulas) who killed his wife (Sela Ward).

David Janssen’s demeanor was halting and brooding as TV’s Kimble in the 1960s, and possibly in tribute to that, so is Ford’s variation on the character ... but the longtime movie superstar has those qualities anyway, and they serve him well as Kimble remains determined to clear himself while desperately trying to evade the federal marshals led by Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones, who rightfully won an Oscar

for his quirky combination of dry humor and law-and-order sturdiness).

Chicago makes a fabulous principal setting for the high-stakes cat-and-mouse game, with a sequence set in and around the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade (complete with green-tinted river) particularly effective. That certainly isn’t the only impactful action scene offered by “The Fugitive,” though, indicated early on as the prison transport bus carrying Kimble crashes and tumbles onto a train track. And, of course, a train is coming.

Two of the unsung heroes (actually, heroines) of “The Fugitive” are veteran casting directors Amanda Mackey and Cathy Sandrich Gelfond. Whatever its size, every role is cast perfectly, with several performers leaving especially big impressions after really only a moment or two – including Julianne Moore, Nick Searcy and an early-in-her-career Jane Lynch. Jeroen Krabbe and

Joe Pantoliano also are on the flawless team of actors here.

Roy Huggins, who created “The Fugitive” for United Artists Television (giving that studio one of the biggest hits it ever had) and ABC, was credited as the executive producer of the movie. It surely helps that the film had that very authentic lineage, and it didn’t hurt that its makers probably wanted to do the original concept full justice, with Huggins still actively connected.

The explanation for the murder that sets “The Fugitive” in motion gets a bit complex in the movie’s home stretch, though it sets the stage for one last great battle before the story reaches the same basic resolution it did on TV. That’s a truly minor quibble about a movie that proves to be one terrific ride – as well as a reasonably rare example of a premise that made a highly successful transition from the small screen to the bigger one.

Detective Inspector Rachel Carey is drafted to investigate Shaun’s case, but she quickly learns that the truth can sometimes be a matter of perspective.

Separated from their new lives in San Francisco, our heroes find themselves unwelcome in their old stomping grounds as they secretly untangle a twisted case without the benefit of the police, their loved ones, or the quality sourdough bakeries of the Bay Area. What they uncover will change the course of their relationships forever.

BY JAY BOBBINFans of a certain series are

bound to be particularly “Psych”-ed about the wide debut of Peacock.

After a version of it debuted three months earlier for subscribers of parent company Comcast, NBC Universal’s streaming service gets total national distribution starting Wednesday, July 15. Drawing from the past and present series libraries of NBC and its affiliated cable networks plus ViacomCBS, as well as the movie vaults of both Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures, Peacock also will have original offerings in scripted and unscripted programming plus (when such events resume) sports.

Among the new Peacock options available at full launch will be “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home,” the second movie sequel to the comedy-mystery series that spent eight seasons on USA Network. Sleuths

Shawn and Gus (James Roday, who also co-wrote the script with executive producer and director Steve Franks, and Dule Hill) investigate an attack on their police comrade Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), as does his former partner Juliet (Maggie Lawson), who’s now married to Shawn.

Seen recently on the Fox sitcom “Outmatched,” Lawson says a huge appeal of “Psych 2” for her was the chance to work again with Omundson, whose work on the first “Psych” movie sequel was limited by a stroke he suffered. “It was such an emotionally charged time and experience for all of us,” the pleasant Lawson reflects of making the latest follow-up. “We felt whole again. And to watch Tim in this ... he does such a good job.”

Other new Peacock programs available on July 15 will include:

“Brave New World,” adapting the Aldous Huxley sci-fi novel and starring Demi Moore; the British mystery “The Capture”; “Intelligence,” a British-made spy comedy with “Friends” alum David Schwimmer; the unscripted “Lost Speedways” (with Dale Earnhardt Jr.) and

“In Deep With Ryan Lochte”; and the children’s series “Cleopatra in Space” and “Where’s Waldo?” Families also can

watch new episodes of “Curious George.”

However, exactly what is available to Peacock viewers will depend on which tier of the service they have. Those who choose the free, ad-supported version will have access to certain episodes of its original series. Full seasons of the shows can be seen by those who pay for a “Premium” version that also will have ads, and also by those who subscribe to a version that will cost more but will be without commercials.

Lawson says she’s game to do more “Psych” projects for Peacock, especially if it means getting to do more scenes with Omundson. She credits Franks with letting them improvise for “Psych 2”: “That emotion, he

let a lot of it play. You can see

it in the movie, yet it’s still the

‘Psych’ everybody knows. And

that’s one of my most favorite

things about it.”
