The free- standing kennels for Kennel A and Dog Medi- cal have been ordered as have the cats cages for the Cat Room, Kitten Room, Cat Medi- cal and the Free Roam Cat Room. Thanks to Dr. Betsy, Mike Post, Danny Rosenmund and especially, Heather Werkeiser from Cansian/ Johnston, who measured multiple times to make sure everything would fit. We had ordered one guillotine door for the B and C kennels to make sure is was what we wanted and worked properly. Thanks goodness we only ordered one - it was 1/2 of an inch too large. Dan Ford, the Site Super- intendent, made it work, but the correct size will make them much easier to install. We will order the rest in the next week. In Memory of Ken Kunes Ken Kunes, long time, dedicated Animal Pro-tectors volunteer, passed away in May after bat-tling cancer. Ken focused on fundraising and community events. He was the bartender at the Cash Bash and cooked the hot dogs and served the food at the Dog Walks and the Yard Sales. Ken did many community set-ups such as PetSmart and adoption events.

Ken adopted two AP cats that were thought of as unadoptable because they were untouchable in their cages, but Ken gave them a chance and Spring and Margie became lovable companions.

Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley is pleased to announce that Danny Rosenmund has joined our New Kensington nonprofit as Shelter Manager.

Mr. Rosenmund brings four years of shelter work experience in Pennsylvania to his new role. He worked with Animal Friends for three years and spent one year with Pennsylvania SPCA - Lancaster County.

“My favorite part of shelter work is helping fearful animals (especially cats),” says Rosen-mund, “gain enough confidence to share their personalities with new people, as well as empow-ering people with the skills and knowledge they need to be their best animal welfarist.”

His vision for AP is that “we strive to be a socially-conscious shelter that works with the communities of the Alle-Kiski Valley to align our values with those of the people that we serve,” he

Meet Animal Protectors Shelter Manager Danny Rosenmund

says. “When at its best, sheltering work bridges the gap between animals that find themselves between homes, and homes that find themselves between pets.”

A native of Virginia, Mr. Rosenmund moved to Western Pennsylvania to attend graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh. While at Pitt, Danny met, fell in love and married his wife, Katy, who is from Butler county. He and Katy live in Springdale. Their two cats, Louie and Eli-za, are both AP alumni. Their two beagle mixes are Annabelle and Jolene.

Not only did Danny fall in love with Katy, but also Western Pennsylvania. When not guid-ing Animal Protectors into the future, Danny and Katy enjoy hiking and backpacking while exploring the many forests in the area. He says he especially likes watching the fog burn off the Allegheny River on a cool morning.

Danny is pictured with Obie, one of Animal Protectors cats who was rescued by a commu-nity cat lover in the Leechburg area. Obie is a 3 year old DSH. He is an incredibly sweet boy that loves attention from people and seems to get along well with other cats.

Animal Protectors is accepting donations for a memorial tile for Ken to hang in the new shelter. If you would like to donate, visit our website at www.animalprotectors.net and click on the donate button. You can also send a check

to the shelter with a note that it is in memory for Ken. Be sure to state for both that the dona-tion is for Ken.

Say hello to Willow. She was turned in as a stray and is sweet as can be! She can be a little shy at first, but give her a minute to warm up and you will have such a loyal companion by your side. She is a terrier mix and is ap-proximately 3 years old. This spirited girl is on her way to a bigger and bet-ter life, all she needs is you!

This petite beauty is Muffin. She ar-rived as a young mother and spent some time in a foster home to raise her babies. She’s a lovable lap cat who is also quite talkative. She likes to be brushed, petted, and is used to having her nails trimmed. Muffin is a sweet young cat with big, beautiful eyes and she’s waiting to meet you.

Hammy is a handsome boy who ar-rived with his sister after their own-er passed away. He’s a very happy dog and that tail always seems to be wagging! Hammy is a 7 year old Staffordshire Terrier mix. He likes running around in our play yard chasing a tennis ball!

If you’re looking for a cuddler, look no further than Big Ben. This boy is all love all the time! He likes his naps and taking it easy, but when he’s not curled up in a cozy spot, he wants to be right there beside you. Big Ben doesn’t seem to mind the other cats and he has a pretty gentle disposition. He also has a magnificent purr.

Sweet Nora is 11 years old. Her own-er recently passed away, placing her in our care. She understandably was frightened leaving the only home she has ever known, but she has started to come out of her shell. Nora is sweet as pie and once you start petting her she will purr and happily rub her face against your hand.

Just look at these two! Suzy and Au-gie are two tiny seniors who arrived after their owner passed away. Suzy is a spunky little thing! She such a happy girl who loves greeting people and trot-ting along on her walks. Little Augie is still getting used to his new environ-ment, but he’s taking it all in stride.

Luka is a shy little guy, but boy is he beautiful! Luka is only 10 months old, so he still has a bit of growing to do. He’s beginning to come out of his shell and is more open to being loved on by our staff and volunteers. He likes a good back scratch and he will lean into your hand while you pet him.

Mr. Guwap is friendly and adorable. Just look at that smile! His owner was forced to give him up because their apartment did not allow pets. This terrier mix is roughly 5 years old and is happy as well as handsome! Mr. Guwap knows his sit command and enjoys going on car rides.
