As a part of 'Safe-Secure-Shillong' project an awareness
programmes on 'National Road Safety Week-2016' was organised by Madanriting Traffic Branch. Dr S.R
Marak,MPS,Addl S.P Trafffic of East Khasi Hills,Shillong as a
resource person spoke about road safety, Traffic Rules and
Regulations and its strict observance. The programme was also
attend by Shri Sanjeev Swer, Manager of Maruti Driving School
and Inspector C.M Ranee I/C Madanriting Traffic Branch along
with the drivers of both commercial vehicles and Local
Taxies.The programme was appreciated by all the participants.
Laban Traffic Branch As a part of 'Safe-Secure-Shillong' project an awareness
programmes on 'National Road Safety Week-2016' and
'Disaster Management Programme was organised by Laban P.S.
Dr S.R Marak,MPS,Addl S.P, Trafffic of East Khasi
Hills,Shillong as a resource person spoke about road safety,
Traffic Rules and Regulataion. Inspector B.K Mishra 0/C Laban P.S along with the member and President of Laban area spoke on
the occassion.

Shillong, with the rest of the nation observed the Road Safety Week which began on January 10 and culminated on 15th January, 2016 which was organized by Shillong Traffic Police (STP) with an aim to improve safety on roads.The 27th Road Safety Week was held with a rally in collaboration with cabs, commercial drivers, private vehicles and bikers association of Shillong among others. The rally was flagged off by Shri. H.Nongpluh,IPS, IGP (CID) 1/C E/R Meghalaya, Shillong from Soso Tham auditorium taking the route from State Central Library, Madanriting, Rynjah, Laitumkhrah, Dhanketi, Barik, Old Cherra, Garikhana, Mawlai petrol pump, Jaiaw, Mawkhar, and Khyndailad Police Bazar and culminated at Police Reserve. Addi.S.P(Tr) educated the participants of the guidelines to be followed while driving.

Traffic Branch covering its jurisdictions and the commuters of the
road, an Awareness Programme was organised on Road safety,
Traffic Rules and regulations. Smti Cherry Shadap ,MPS, Dy.S.P Traffic, Shillong and officers from Mawlai Traffic Branch as
resource persons spoke about the road safety, Traffic Rules and
Regulataion to the attending participants.

Shillong. In a similar programme to observe the 'National Road Safety Week-2016', Sadar Tr. Branch also organised an awareness Programme at Sadar P.S. Complex. The resourse persons, Smti. Cherry Shadap, MPS., DySP(City), Shillong, 1/C Sadar Tr. Branch and other officers from the branch speaking to the attending participants/Drivers made aware of the importance of the Raod Safety for themselves as well as other commuters of the roads. The officers presented a power point presentation and video clips on the causes of Traffic accidents, Traffic rules and regulations and its strict observance was also emphasized.

Branch Laitumkhrah Traffic Police conducted Road Safety Week at
Laitumkhrah Traffic Branch in which the officers and staff had an
interactive session on Traffic Awareness, Safety and Motor Vehicle act
with the driving students of Gilz Driving School, Dhanketi and Doone
Driving School Malki in which a total 30(thirty) students participated.

The Shillong Traffic Police was recognised for their limitless dedication and selfless service to the people of Shillong and nominated for the Excellence Award on the occasion of !lith year Anniversary of Rotary, organised by the Rotary Club of Orchid City, Shillong at Dwar Jingkyrmen on 23.02.20 IS.Dr S.R.Marak, Addi.SP. (Traffic) Shillong received a Momento of Appreciation on behalf of the Shillong Traffic Police from the Chief Guest, Shri Frederick Roy Kharkongor, lAS. Other receipents of Awards included Cherrapunji Holiday Resort, Dwar .Jingkyrmen, Mr.Stai Sing Syiem and Kong D.Wanjoplin Kshiar, Mr. Denis Rayan.
The differently-abled students of Dwar Jingkyrmen alongwith their Parents/ Gurdians and the teaching staff of Dwar Jingkyrmen attended the programme and also performed songs and dances.
9 27/02/16 Sadar PS ROAD SAFETY EDUCATION AND COUNSELLING In compliance of the recommendation of the 'Supreme Comi Committee on Road Safety', Sadar Traffic Police initiated a 'Road Safety Education and Counselling class' for traffic violators for violating traffic rules like driving without helmet, failure to put on seat belt etc. The violators were subjected to two hours of counselling and they were expected that in future they do not violate traffic rules again. 10 08/03/2016 Sadar PS As a part of International Women's Day, 2016 today a small but
impressive function was organized at Sadar PS by East Khasi Hills
District Police in collaboration with CID Headquarters to acknowledge
the contribution of women police officers who were involved in
investigation of cases of 'Crime Against Women & Children'. They
were given a Certificate of Appreciation and a gift hamper for the good
investigation done by them. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Shri
S.K. Jain,IPS, Spl. Director General of Police(CID/SB), Meghalaya,
Shillong and Guest of Honour was Shri H. Nongpluh,IPS, Inspector
General of Police(CID), 1/C Eastern Range, Meghalaya, Shillong. The
aim of the function was to encourage the investigating officers to carry
out good and professional investigation so that the victims are assured
of justice.

Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Sepngi as part of their 'Urban Mission' at Wahingdoh mam road where Shri
M.Kharkrang,MPS, S.P East Khasi Hills,Shillong presented importants aspect relating to different crimes and made public
aware about the day to day crime and also educated the youth how
to prevent themselves from drug abuse.
The Poster Campaign on Protection of Children was launched
today the 17.03.2016 at 4 Pm in the office chamber of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills ,Shillong. The NORTH
EASTERN REGIONAL DOMESTIC WORKERS MOVEMENT, who IS working for the rights,dignity and empowerment of women and children in Domestic work has
found out that around the state of Meghalaya, large number of children are engaged in domestic work whether paid or unpaid. The Movement aims for giving children full childhood in a child
friendly society where every child enjoys mainstream education
and children's rights.The District Police as stake holders in the campaign has every possible support.

person presented importants aspect relating to different crimes and made public aware about the day to day crime and also

A V.D.P Rally was organised by East Khasi Hills District Police at Mawlong. Shri M.Kharkrang,MPS, S.P. East Khasi Hills District presenting his subject in a slide show relating to Drugs with an objective to make public aware about the Crimes happening in the District.ancl State which is related to the Drugs and Alcohol abuses. Types of Drugs available in Shillong and its method ofuse,the ways the teenagers could fall prey to such addiction and the role of parents and teachers to take preventive steps were major highlights. S.D.P.O Sohra speaking on theoccasion about the functioning and role of the V .D.P members on how to handle the crime in their villages in coordination with Police. Police VDP relationship is the means to reach out to the general public. However, they were also requested not to misuse their power inviting allegations.ln the programmes VDP members and villagers attended the programmes , an endevour by District Police to remain connected with interior part of the District.

Cleaning Drive in Police Bazar Area was organised by Sadar
Police Station on the 3.04.20 16. in partnership with the hawkers,
shop owners and hoteliers of Police Bazar area to counter the
increasing garbage problem. The drive was successful with an
active participation of the Police officers & men, volunteers of
Local organizations. Shillong Municipal Board also played an
active role in the disposal of garbage collected during the drive.
As a part of the ' Safe Secure Shillong'project an awareness programmes on 'Drugs abuse and Crime and also on Social Evils was organised by Hyniewtrep Youth Council & Secred Heart Boys Higher Secondary School Ill collaboration with East Khasi Hills District Police,Shillong.Superintendent of Police EKH,Shillong as a Resource Person in his power point presentation highlighted the major issues covering the contemporary society which is arising due to Drugs in the City especially affecting the youth. The type of drugs available in Shillong city, its peddling, social, physical and mental effects on the society and young generation were highlighted, tips on how to prevent oneself from failing into such addictions and parents & Teacher's role dominated the speech.Other spoke persons were Smti O.Swer (DM& HO),Fr Anthony Kharkongor Principal of Secred Heart Hr Sec School, Shri Donboklang Lyngdoh President of HYC Mawlai Circle, Shri, S.Kurbah Headman.ln the programmes II Schools In and around Mawlai area participant which was attended by about 500 students, including teachers and staff. The awareness programme was highly appreciated.
An Awareness class on Cyber Crime to the personnel of Air force was given by 0/C Madanriting PS as a resource person. He presented various types of cyber crimes, modes operand is and tips on prevention & detection. He also presented the cases studies the District Police had solved in the recent past.

A Counselling class was conducted for local taxi drivers in which various guidelines were given to them pertaining to Motor Vehicle Act. The drivers were also given time for interaction. Subsequently in the latter part of counselling a Campaign on " Zero Littering with City Taxi Drivers of Shillong' was organised by Shillong Trafic Police in collaboration with Swachh Bharat Mission Urban Affaira Department of Meghalaya. Dr S.R Marak,MPS, Addl. Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Shillong as a resource person spoke about the importance of the Traffic rules and to obey it. He also urged them not to throw any rubbish from their Vehicle like betel nut, plastic
etc. So as a driver and a citizen of Shillong City they should have the responsibility to demonstrate the good examples of by not throwing any rubbish on the roads and also to keep Shillong city neat and clean. On this occasion, member of the Swachh Bharat Mission also presented her important aspects on this issue.In this programmes about 240 taxi drivers attended the campaign and also the distribution of stickers.
As a part of the Traffic Awareness Programmes,A Counselling class was organised by Shillong Traffic Police for all the Local Taxi Drivers and Member of the Local Taxi Association. 1/C Lumdienjri spoke about the various traffic rules relating to signal while pickingup the Passenger from the road ,Negligent to obey the traffic rules like, wearing seatbelt,no speed Driving and over taking which leads to accidents,Used of High Beam light,used of Mobiles Phone, etc. 1/C Madanriting also elaborated the cause of Penalization of fine for violating the traffic rules not only for Taxi Driver but for Private vehicles as a whole.The important patis of the programmes is mostly about the Road cleanliness through out the city. The drivers play an important roles for taking the responsibility to make the road clean and not to allow any passenger to take a change in throwing rubbish or spitting from the Car.The couselling has a positive effect on the 52 drivers alongwith Members of the Local Taxi Association who participated in this Programmes.

Community Hall On 2nd May,2016, the First VDP Rally was held of Dangar Circle at Dangar Community Hall for all villages falling under Dangar Outpost. It was attended by Headmen, Secretaries and VDP members. Shri I.O Swer, MPS, SDPO, Sohra gave a detailed insight into the Meghalaya Village Defence Organisation Act and the rules and regulations governing VDPs. Shri M. KharkrangJPS, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong 111 his presentation dwelt on the need for a close cooperation between public and police through VDPs. He also spoke at length on Crime Against Women, the need to get Migrant Workers Registered with police and educated the people on false allegation of witch hunting which has led to the death of many innocent people. Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong took a commitment from the villagers that by the end of 2016, each village should have a registered VDP.

On 07.05.2016 at 11.30 AM, an awareness programme on protection
of children from getting induced to consumption of tobacco products
at Rama Krishna Mission School by 0/C Sohra P.S. 0/C Sohra P.S gave
an introduction speech and explained about section 77 Juvenile
Justice (Care& protection of children) Act, 2015 and its implication and
how to protect the children from getting induced to consumption of
tobacco products that the children who start using tobacco at an early
age are the ones who find it most difficult to quit. He also explained
about the conducting of the awareness programme on the subject. 51 F. Suchiang explained about the type of deceases caused from
consumption of Tobacco products. The principal of Ram a Krishna
Mission School also took part in the speech where he briefed about
the harmful effects of Tobacco products by showing video clips
through power play presentation.
An Awareness Programme was conducted on "Protection of Children from getting induced to Consumption of Tobacco Products" on the 7/5/16 at Laban
Police Station The Programme was attended by the Local Dorbar (Rangbah Shnongs & Members) of Laban Jurisdiction, School Teachers, Students, Shop
Keepers/ Stake holders and Police Personnel. A total14 (Fourteen) School Teachers attended with the students. The following suggestions were made by the resource Persons after a threadbare discussion on the Topic on 'How to
Spread Awareness Among the People' as follows; (a) Posters should be to be pasted in Shops & Conspicious Locations in the locality for awareness purpose. (b) Parents/Elders & Teachers should be Observant to the behaviour of the
Children and provide them -With proper information of the consequences of indulging into Tobacco consumption. (c) The School is advised to Conduct seminars within the School and invite resource person and Police to take part in such seminars.
28 09/05/2016 Sadar Police Station On issues relating to Protection of Children from getting induce to Consumption of Tobacco Products", Programme was organised by the
Sadar Police Station, Shillong in collaboration with Lions Club of Shillong at Sadar Police Station Complex. Keeping in view the rise in youths being addicted to tobacco consumption 111 the forms of cigarettes, chewing of tobacco etc., School Children and Teachers Community from various Schools in Shillong were invited to attend the programme along with the NGOs namely Civi I Society Women's Organisation (CSWO), Reach Shillong Ministry Shillong, Child-line Shillong Legal Right Forum, Shillong and Medical Officer from Police
Unit Hospital, Shillong. The Gutkha-Pan shop keepers and business community in Police Bazar area also attended the programme.
Pamphlets & Banners on the subject were also distributed among the attending Schools representations and Shop Keepers with a request to paste the message in a conspicous location of School campus and in front of the Pan- Shop to create and spread awareness among the general public.
The objective of the programme is to sensitize the Shopkeepers and others of the newly Amended Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2015, which laid down Stringent Punishment for those selling tobacco products or Cigarettes to minors.

On 9/5/2016, at the premises Laitumkhrah Assamese Secondary
School @ 11:00 am an awareness programme was conducted by
Laitumkhrah P.S in connection with Sensitization of Section 77 Juvenile
Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act,20L5 and its implications
Matter relating to protection of Children from getting induced to
consumption of Tobacco Products. In this programme student of the
said school and the Principal, Teachers, parents and also the
shopkeepers also participated. The programme was chaired by Shri H.
Sakia (Teacher) of the said School and the programme was followed by
the speech of Shri Jefferson Kynjing, Assistant Coordinator, NEIDAC,
Nongrimmbah, Shillong where he gave a brief speech on Juvenile
Justice Act and the use of tobacco and other intoxicating substances
and its merits and demerits. It was followed by WPSI M. M. Momin of
Laitumkhrah Police Station, Shillong who gave an explanation on Sec
77 Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2015, it
objectives and about the penalty.

On the 9th May 2016 at 10.00 AM, an Awareness programme on the
Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 20L5 was
conducted at St. Anthony,s Higher Secondary School, Pynursla by
Pynursla P.S, which was attended by many schools and teachers, some
Public, NGOs, individuals and others. Sensitization of Section 77 of JJ
Act and its implications- "if a person give or causes to be given, to any child any intoxicating liquor or any narcotic drug or tobacco products
or psychotropic substances, shall be punished for 7 years
imprisonment & Fine of One Lakh.

Awareness Programme was conducted at Mizo Secondary School
Madanriting Block-E by Madanriting P.S. During this programme
students from Class 9 and Class 10 were given awareness with regard
to Section 77 Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) of Children Act
2015 and its implications -Matters relating to protection of Children
from getting induced to consumption of tobacco products, the matter
was discussed by WP/SI P.Wahlang. Other topics with regard to drugs
and social media and their implications was discussed by SI.E.R.Marak
and Officer In Charge Inspector B.K.Mishra.

Sheila Police station conducted an awareness/ outreach programme at
RCLP School Sohlap, Sheila in connection with Sensitization of Section
77 Juvenile Justice (Care & P~otection of Children Act, 2015 and its
implications. He further explained the different types/usage of
tobacco, evils/bad effects of tobacco products which may affect the
person in respect of economically, health, socially and emphasized in
linking with alcoholism and drug abused and consequently lead to
different types of crime. He fervently urged the society as a whole to
protect the children from getting induced to consumption of tobacco
Products. Sl D.R Marak repeated the above noted same points in Garo
Dialect for the benefit of Garo students which comprised about 40% of
the students.

As a Resoure Person Superintendent of Police, Shri M. Kharkrang, IPS., attended an Awareness Programme and delivered lectures on 'Drug Abuse and Cyber Crime' to the NCC Cadets camping at the 119 TA. Bn. Hq. The ill effects of Drugs on the physical and mental health of the youth was stressed with helpfull tips to counter and refrain from the menace was presented with slides show. A short session on Social Media and the Cyber crimes was also covered. The cadets were advised to use technology sensibly and with precaution.

To reach out to the population beyond Shillong, an Awareness Programme was conducted at Madanlyngdoh, Nongkynrih under Pynursla P.S on 16.05.2016 by East Khasi Hills District Police. Shri. M Kharkrang, IPS, Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills, Shillong attended the programme as a resource person where about 300 people along with School students participated. The S.P discussed on Witch hunting or 'Men ai Ksuid' which has taken away many innocent life, the need to set up VDP in the villages. illegality of taking the law in their own hands, need to report a serious crime especially rape cases to police immediately and how late reporting can destroy the evidence, ill effects of drugs on the Society, ATM frauds and the need by the public to report to Police any reckless driving by public vehicle drivers in which they are travelling while commuting.

Concerned with the rash and negligent riding by most two wheelers and frequent accidents, Shillong Traffic Police Organised a Counselling Class for two wheeler riders at Sadar Police Station Complex. Around 150 riders including females attended. Shri M. Kharkrang, IPS. Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong spoke about various traffic rules relating to signal, wearing of helmet, speed driving and use of mobile phones while riding. S.P. impressed on them the need to inculcate the habit of safe riding and take upon themselves the responsibility of ensuring not only their safety but also that of other road users. Documentary films of real life accidents involving two wheelers, captured on camera, was viewed. Lastly, S.P. reminded them that 'speed thrills but kills'.
As part of their CSR, State Bank of India Donated of Wheel Chairs and Stretcher trolley at Police Unit Hospital, Shillong.where by the S.P (City) as a chair person on this programmes lauded the SBI management led by Shri Bimal Deb Roy Asstt General Manager,Shillong.

Sadar P.S Shillong Sadar Police Station under initiative of Inspector D. K. Prasad, Officer in Charge organised a week long programme in observance of the International Day against Drugs and Illicit Trafficking from 20th June - 25th June 2016. The programme started with the distribution of flyers in various locations of Shillong, organising of Poster Campaigns against the menace of drugs and illicit trafficking and Circulation of Video CDs containing message against drugs by Shri M. Kharkrang, IPS, SP, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, Shri. N. Syiem, MPS, SP (Traffic), East Khasi Hills, Shillong, Shri. V. Syiem, MPS, SP (City) , East Khasi Hills. Shillong, Dr. S.R. Marak, MPS, Addl SP (Traffic), East Khasi Hills, Shillong, Shri. K. Prasad, MPS, Dy. SP (HQ), East Khasi Hills. Shillong. Spreading a strong message against drugs and illicit trafficking, the officers and staff of Sadar Police Station led by the OfTicer In Charge had distributed flyers in vanous locations like commercial areas and educational institutions. The flyers carried the messages "Say No To Drugs"
Poster Campaign Competition was also organized to spread awareness on the dangers of drugs and illicit trafficking in which students from various educational institutions had pmiicipated enthusiastically. The posters and placards prepared by the students were also displayed in Police Bazaar area on 23rd June 2016 and in the premises of the Police Station on 24th and 25th June 2016. Programme on 'International Day Against Drugs Awareness and Illicit Trafficking" was organized by Maclanriting Police Staff ,where Insp B.K Mishra 0/C Maclanriting P.S as a resource person, spoke about the importance aspect relating to drugs abuse and Illicit trafficking and also increasing of crime like Theft, Buglary, Crime Against Women etc, clue to drugs addiction. About 413 participants including stuclents,teachers and police staff attended the programme.
