FROM THE

EDITOR’S DESK

t’s the month of endless parties, preps for the year ahead and lots of waiting for Santa to come and give us some magical

gifts. That’s why we had the gorgeous and now a Hollywood import Nargis Fakhri wear red to remind us that Santa could be as sexy as her and need not be an old man with a beard. We’re all grown-ups and by now have the fact downloaded into us that Santa is always there around to give us sweet gifts if we have worked hard enough and sincerely at that; that’s the only “clause” to meet the Santa Claus.

It is time to take a decent enough look at what news shaped 2017 and we have it all covered for you right here. The December Issue is all in all a brief recap of sorts that will remind you of the top milestones of this year along with wrapping the entire year in the form of the Top 100 gadgets that made 2017 the year it is or should I say it was.

It sometimes really surprises me how saturated the tech world is. And yet at the same time, it doesn’t surprise me how many more innovations and tech would still keep on coming our way. The biggest headlines and fuss created this year were, no wonder, about the iPhone X (when it comes to the niche). And mind you, this time, the mega brands have also

bothered to cater to the less privileged. Reliance Jio puckered up the courage to again boost in a feature phone in this precocious era of bezel-less smartphones and it succeeded!

What we also have are the Exhibit Tech Awards right in its 4th providence year, flawlessly zooming in on the best that Tech has to offer. Exhibit Tech Awards first started in the year 2014 and this time, the Awards have risen several levels to become colossal with the first, second and third editions having travelled from Bangalore in 2014 through Mumbai in 2015 to finally land in Delhi in 2016. The 4th edition of Exhibit’s Tech Awards is all set for inauguration on the 19th of December 2017 at Westin, Gurgaon with an impressive jury board and a combination of public voting which is up and running on the techawards.co.in/vote. It’s what will wrap up the year finally with all stakeholders from Tech & Auto raising a toast.

That is pretty much it. With the last goodbye to 2017, I wish you all nothing but a Merry Christmas and hope you meet your Santa for a splendid year ahead. By the time we meet again, calendars would’ve changed, clocks readjusted, one year would’ve passed by, 2017 would be history and 2018 will begin with a lot of mystery.

Let’s ride 2018 with a single motto – Work, Rave, Repeat and be the best version of ourselves! Cheers!

Your Checklist For A Successful CES Visit

If you are a Tech buff, then there are chances that you know about “Consumer Electronic Show” (CES), one of the most sought-after Tech exhibit shows. Held in January each year at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Nevada, United States, the Consumer Electronic Show is an annual trade show organised by the Consumer Technology Association. CES hosts presentations of new products and showcases up-and-coming technologies of the Consumer Electronics industry. In addition to that, the exhibit also holds conferences and events. The first CES was held in New York City in 1967 and saw a strong attendance of 17,500 people and 100 exhibitors.

What You Can’t miss

CES 2018 will be held from the 9th through 12th December and one thing you should definitely expect is a lot of people given the scale at which the exhibit is held. 2018 expects over 170,000 attendees. CES has 3 important “Zones” into which the show is divided namely the Tech West, Tech East and Tech South zones. Planning plays an important role as each zone has simultaneous activities happening such as-

Keynote Address: Keynote addresses are delivered by Global industry leaders or CEOs across big Tech companies on a main stage. Keynote Addresses are open to all CES attendees so make sure to catch the ones you would like to attend by closely following the timing, location and date. Following are the speakers for 2018

SuperSessions: SuperSessions feature emerging, up-and-coming companies and senior executives on a premier stage. SuperSessions are open to all CES attendees.

Track: A track is comprised of sessions that narrow in on a topic or emerging trend.

C Space: All matters concerning entertainment are incorporated into one section called C Space, a focused program for the advertising, content, entertainment and marketing industries.

Watch out for Booths by:Launch announcements by Samsung, LG, Honor, ZTE, Asus, TC, Qualcomm, Google, booths of Sony, Dell, Acer, Hp Razer, Toshiba, automobile booths of car manufacturers Fisker, Tesla, Hyundai, Toyota, wearables, robots and hundreds of others. A lot many brands take the opportunity to launch new products at CES by holding presentations at their booths thus increasing the scope of the reach of the new product and news.

You can make your own personalised CES game plan with the help of a tool on the website that requires you to make an account and find exhibitors, keynotes, and add conference sessions filtered by location to create the visit you most wanted to have. It also allows you to make individual reservations for hotels and prepare a personal showplan with planning and logistics. You can also conduct a search according to the name of the speaker or company that you wish to attend. CES also provides transportation options to reach the venue such as Shuttle, Monorail, Taxi, Airport shuttles and Ridesharing with Uber/Lyft.

The number of people coming to attend the exhibit from all around the world is massive and so even a simple process might take longer. Thus, CES enables you to avoid time wastage by fastening processes by helping you collect your CES badges at the hotel or at the airport. You must take heed of the timings of the exhibit for each day. The CES 2018 show floor hours will be as follow:

TuESDAY, JANuARY 9: 9 AM-6 PMWEDNESDAY, JANuARY 10: 9 AM-6 PMThuRSDAY, JANuARY 11: 9 AM-6 PMFRiDAY, JANuARY 12: 9 AM-4.30 PM

And, very importantly, make sure you carry your walking shoes to CES!

Exhibit, like every year, would be walking the show to give you live, exclusive updates about the best at the show so stay tuned to our channel and catch all the action!

Attend conferences:CES has on-going conferences during its course of 4 days and if you search well, you can come across many interesting ones which are crisp and encompass very diverse topics. However, be cautious to divide your time well because of the overlapping timings and distance of the locations from one another. You can also refer to a whole comprehensive list of conferences taking place across the 4 days.

GooGle Pixel 2 vs iPhone x vs samsunG s8:

n September, marking iPhone’s 10-year anniversary, Apple showed off the arduous iPhone X. Then in October, a rival tech brand Google debuted the

Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL, carrying Android 8.0 Oreo.

Meanwhile, Samsung and Apple have been all-time competitors. The latest iPhones and Galaxy 8-series phones are both battling each other in phone shops across the world. But, hey, which one is the best for you? Let’s dive into the key differences between the three mega devices and see which one fits your needs the best.

The DesiGnThe iPhone X has entirely changed its face compared to all Apple devices to this date. iPhone X’s Super Retina display uses a new OLED panel, which utilizes the handset’s entire front. Thus, Apple had to ditch the Home button, along with the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Overall, the iPhone X is an attractive handset. However, the screen “notch” may have altered the opinion. And if you ignore the notch, then probably the iPhone X is one of the prettiest smartphones out there.

Comparatively, Google has presented a mixed bag regarding the design. Google Pixel 2 is quite similar to last year’s Google Pixel: holding the dual-tone rear and heavy bezels. But the Google

Pixel 2 XL is where matters have actually developed. Google too, like Apple and Samsung, has chosen the all-screen front design.

The S8 and iPhone X look quite the twins, since Apple opted for a smaller bezel around its screen. However, anybody who’s held a Galaxy S7 Edge will get familiar with the phone soon enough.

Base verDicT: DesiGnThe absence of a home button is strife for Samsung and Apple phones. Apple has dealt with this issue by evolved an original swipe-based navigation system. You can close apps by simply swiping up from the bottom of the screen. The Galaxy S8 offers a pressure-sensitive, undetectable home button. Galaxy S8 is devoted in eradicating the left and right parts of the bezel, for almost no visible edge.

sPecs

APPLE iPhoNE XSeriously, the iPhone X is a prevailing phone. You get a large, pixel-dense 5.8-inch screen, along with a display resolution of 1125 x 2436 pixels. The mobile is powered by the supremely nippy A11 Bionic chip, too. That’s a custom-built processor designed by Apple, offering six cores and rapid performance. It’s one of the fastest mobile chips we’ve ever seen, so you certainly won’t be disappointed in how fast the iPhone X runs. Other incentives include 3GB of RAM, and storage options including 64GB or 256GB. The other key feature

is a dual-camera module on the back, which makes use of an f/1.8 aperture for striking depth-of-field and classy portrait shots. Lastly, iPhone X uses a new facial recognition system termed Face ID, which substitutes the longstanding fingerprint-scanning Touch ID the user authentication system. However, Apple has receiver decent amount of flak for its Face ID technology.

GooGLE PiXEL 2Relatively, the Google Pixel 2 sports a small 4.97-inch display, offering a lowly Full HD resolution. The phone is economical, in objectivity, but it still is somewhat compact by 2017’s trends. Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are both powered by the Snapdragon 835, which is a high-performance processor manufactured by Qualcomm. Basically, this is fast as hell. The mobile is backed by 4GB of RAM, along with options 64GB or 128GB. Apple may have an edge with its 256 GB storage model; however, Apple’s trodden on RAM. The best incentive of Pixel 2 phones is ‘Edge Sense’, which lets you control aspects of the phone by pressing the sides.

SAMSuNG GALAXY S8The Samsung Galaxy S8 offers Exynos 8895 or Snapdragon 835, plus 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. This is very similar to Pixel 2. Samsung Galaxy S8 has a bigger screen with an equally higher resolution display. The quad-HD+ resolution of the S8 is quite similar to Pixel 2 XL.

fRAcAS OfTHE

We DeTermine The Buzz-WorThy Phones for you

The Google Pixel Phones aren't worth the price that you are paying. Coming to the gloating iPhone X now, if you have that kind of budget to spend, then it is the phone for you. However, do not get sour because even on such a high price, iPhone X will be delivered to you with a few glitches here and there. And for the Samsung Galaxy S8, the mobile is comparatively cheaper as well as efficient at the price that is it offering.

ozilla has rolled out

Firefox Quantum and even if you are an ardent fan of Google Chrome, you should try this fastest web browser. Firefox Quantum (57) is really fast and almost twice as fast as Firefox (52) from six months ago. It is built on a revamped core engine with brand new technology, and has been given a latest look designed for getting out of the way and letting you do what you do best. For instance, opening a zillion tabs, surfing a ton of pages, and all this is guilt free as Firefox Quantum uses less memory as compared to any other web browsers.

Mozilla’s main motive is to keep the web open and competitive. Firefox is the way for Mozilla to bring new technologies like fast WebAssembly-powered games, VR and easier payments to the web. Firefox also plays a vital role if you know and care about the web’s value as neutral tech territory. Firefox was launched in 2004 and by far it is the biggest update to this browser. It is really better in every way possible. The first thing anyone will notice is the speed. You’ll be able to understand this when you open

the tabs and play along. Along with the speed, the second noticeable thing is the brand new User Interface (UI). The latest Photon UI is undoubtedly smooth and very fast.

With the growing popularity of Google Chrome, somehow Mozilla got sidelined. Firefox Quantum which comes in a whole revamped version might be an attempt to start afresh. However, making a complete overhauled Firefox with brand new look, feel and speed was not an easy task. This is why volunteers and employees around the globe worked in record time for creating the best Firefox till date. Almost 700 authors contributed code to Firefox since the release happened on 6th August.

20 I I DEC 17 EXPLORE

Not only this, almost 80 contributors around the world, with nearly every time-zone represented in round-the-clock awesomeness. Furthermore, there are 265,252,859,191,742,656,903,069,040,640,000 more ways to customize the new Firefox toolbar right out of the box. Pretty interesting! Isn’t it?!

There’s more to tell you about all the incredible work that went into Firefox Quantum, but you should try it for yourself and I’m sure it will make you content. According to Gartner Analyst David Smith, “Their mission is a good one and does keep the pressure up to keep the web open.” He even recommended web surfers to use “multiple modern browsers.”

: 10 years in the Music industry, a Grammy in your repertoire and thousands of performances- we’re super-thrilled. How do you feel about it at this point? AfrojAck: I’m just having fun right now to be honest. Even though I have completed 10 years, I still feel like I am just getting started, you know?! I’m a record label owner too so right now, I’m really experimenting on the artist development side of things, and how these artists do the recordings. Of course we have enough experience with that now but that is really where my main focus is right now- more talent and artist development, and helping them get bigger. And on the side, I’m also focusing on making music for myself. I just did a song with David Guetta and Charli XCX so of course I make music myself, too.

: Catch me up to speed - you are a Music producer, label owner, super performer - how do you manage to juggle them all? It’s just a question of doing it! I don’t have to spend a lot of time doing fun things because for me, it’s like saying that my hobby has become my work in every facet. Everything I do is a part of my job so it’s easy to just spend my time doing my job. Since I started out doing what I love and am doing what I love, I try to keep things in perspective by asking, “Do I like what I’m doing and what will make this bigger and better?”. Whatever I do when I’m in the studio or when I have to choose how I’m going to divide my time, my thing is always looking at the bigger picture and seeing what will make me happy and enhance the other facets of the company because it’s not just me anymore! When I started out, yes it was, but now I have all these artists, the staff and team that I have to work together with.

: Your popularity keeps you on tour almost all the time. Give us a peek into what your tour life is like.I don’t go out to see the place when I’m touring, I save that for more private occasions. So I usually go to the hotel and just work on my music; I keep working all the time!

: We’ve never heard you sing on any of your tracks. Do you sing? Or would you like to in the future?(laughs) No, I’m not a singer! Sometimes I give my voice to record a demo but I’m not thinking about pursuing a singing career. It’s not that my record wouldn’t allow me (laughs) but I’m not intending on making a singing debut, haha!

DJ OF THE MOnTHn a super exclusive telephonic conversation for the 2017 closing issue of Exhibit, Utsavi jha tried catching speed with the ultra-busy, ultra-popular and ultra-nice Dutch DJ

Nick van de Wall much widely known by his stage name Afrojack. The Grammy winner recently celebrated a decade in the music industry and is going stronger with his own music and the artists under his label. Read the exclusive interview to see the super performer speak about his life as a DJ, his music style and preferences, and a whole lot of trivia!

: Music charts and numbers- what significance do they hold for you? Do numbers impact you? Personally, it doesn’t matter but every time a song does well I’m just proud of my fans. That’s the biggest reward I could ask for because first of all, I would want my fans to like it and it would make me happy if they’re listening to the song and are excited about the song hitting number one. Like I said, personally I don’t care if it’s number 1 or number 100; I just want my fans, who call themselves the A team, to like it. As long as I get to celebrate it with them, it’s awesome!

: Who is your favourite to collaborate with and whom are you looking to collaborate with? David Guetta of course! He’s like one of my best friends and he’s like family to me. He’s also the No. 1 collaborator. Then there are a lot of other people in the music industry too that I’ve already collaborated with. In the future, I think I’d like to work with Kendrick Lamar. I’ve been following him for a while and I really love his music.

: How would you like to describe your style of music? Since it’s all over the place, I always just like to call it the Afrojack music! I like different styles of music- hip-hop, EDM, pop- I produce them too so if anytime anyone else asks me what do you do, I say I make Afrojack music! I don’t want to piss anyone off or want anyone to say that my genre of music is something they don’t agree with.

ALBUM 22 I I DEC 17

: Do you have any plans to divert from Dance music and try your hands on any other genre? I’ve met a lot of Indian artists but I can’t say anything about them yet but I’m really looking into making a collaboration with incorporation of EDM into Indian music. EDM is still big in India and you guys have been supportive for such a long time so I really want to try and come there and do a crossover you know!

: You have a sea of fans in India. How has your experience coming to India been like?I’ve been performing a lot in India but also every year when it comes to MTV Awards and other such event, they have a lot of shows in India and they’ve called me and many other DJs many times. So I really feel like India is one of the main hubs of the world when it comes to EDM. There might just be more fans of EDM in the world just in India!

: How is the EDM scene different from the world in India?I think the main difference between the EDM scene in India and the rest of the world is that in India, it just started a few years ago in a big way even though you’ve always had the big dancing scene with the Goa trance and the Sunburn stage. In the last couple of years, India has hit it really big there. The EDM scene has been bubbling for a long time

so people are happy for it to finally pop up! The biggest difference between India and the rest of the world is that people in India are way more hands-on when it comes down to being a part of something. In America, people would be like, ‘Oh yeah, I like it,’ but they won’t be fans of something. In India, I have a lot of die-hard fans. I really appreciate people coming all the way to see me!

: What is different in all the places you’ve performed at now that you’ve experienced the EDM scenes in almost all parts of the world? There are only two places in the world where it’s really, really at a high point right now and that’s India and Mexico. It’s like EDM is at its highest peak. Rest of the world is kind of like been there done that so it’s kind of steady but in India and Mexico they’re really growing.

: It’s safe to say that you’ve performed at all major music festivals all around the world. Which one is your favourite? Any favourite place to perform at?I think my favourite festival is Tomorrowland; it’s an awesome music festival! And when it comes to the place, I really like performing in Mexico.

: Any firsts when it comes to your favourite performances till date?

I try to count each concert as the best one. So the next one has to be better than the last one!

: Do you have a dream gig in mind (that is if you haven’t performed there already)?I just want artists in my label to perform at the same places that I’ve performed at. Now I want to make other people’s dreams come true. I don’t really have a dream; I just want to make music and have the audience enjoy my music!

: Name the best and the worst things about being a DJ?I think the only thing that puts me off is that sometimes you have to be in airplanes for a really long time in a row. This once we were flying for 25 hours in 2 days and that is kind of boring but there’s nothing I can do about it. And the best thing is obviously that you get to do what you love!

: Any super-special career moment that stands out for you?I think it’s yet to come (laughs). All of the stuff I’ve done has always given me great moments; every moment is really cool!

: Which Afrojack song is your favourite? I think it’s Dirty Sexy Money, the one I did with Charli XCX and Take over control.

: Name some of your must-have tech gadgets. My most favourite gadget is my laptop of course because I use it to make my music on it.

: Afrojack the movie : the title would be?I think I would just call it Afrojack.

: Having been around in the music industry since so many years, how do you think has the EDM scene changed over the years and where do you see it heading in the next 5 years? Not a lot of things have changed actually! It’s just got bigger with a little more style and special effects. Like there are fireworks and back in the day we didn’t have fireworks. But, we’ve definitely gotten bigger!

: What according to you is the next big thing in the field of Dance Music?Definitely, it’s Future bass. It’s like the chill out, lounge, chord progression stuff unlike 75 bpm; that’s what I’m falling in love right now.

TALKING TUNES

rom being a nascent, undiscovered band on YouTube to becoming an indie listener’s foremost

love to now being the headlining act at NH7 Pune on December 10th, Cigarettes After Sex have come a long way decidedly with a longer route to walk on ahead. In a chilled telephonic conversation with utsavi Jha, Cigarettes frontman Greg Gonzalez tells her about their journey, music philosophy, tech preferences, and answers a bunch of random questions.

After SexcIGARETTES

: What shaped your interest in

music?

GreG Gonzalez: I didn’t really like formal lessons for music at all. I learnt music by listening to records and learning songs off of records by ear. When I was very young, I was listening to MJ and around that time, I started writing and singing immediately. So for me, there was no alternative; I just had to play music.

: What does performing on

tours feel like?

It’s amazing! It could be a little rough going around all the time but seeing the fan following, different people who come to see us no matter where they’re from, who share the same passion and love as we do in many ways is great! We have a great fanbase and it’s one of the biggest compliments to us.

: What do you think about the

pressure to go commercial now

that you have amassed so much

popularity?

Yes, of course, there is some kind of pressure if you want to become more successful or bigger but for me, I never really block myself with a barrier. I do what’s best for my song. I don’t do anything to please the audience; I ultimately try to please myself and I’m pretty confident that what works for me will work with the audience, and that whatever I do will be very genuine.

: What kicks in the creative

juices?

I am sort of writing all the time because I’ve got a melody in my mind and I keep thinking about it. My mind is filled with music all the time. But if I have to write a piece of music,

I’ll just sit at night with a guitar, make myself a cup of tea, have a film running in the background to take images from and build on them. This helps if I’m having a tough time writing.

: Your songs are so explicit

but they do not sound vulgar.

How do you keep the balance?

The way you speak to your friends or your lover is actually very everyday language. But it comes down to how it is to be framed for it to not sound vulgar, and so as an artist it’s a little hard. The main difference for me as an artist is figuring out whether it is sounding sweet or vulgar.

: What’s your backstory- do

you write music to share your

stories with the world or to

vent?

I think it’s a way to let out how I’m feeling. I’m really shy; I don’t talk a lot or share my feelings a lot so all these emotions build up inside me and I have to find a way to let them out or I’ll go crazy. It’s actually out of necessity.

: Have you ever considered

writing about some other

emotion/topic?

I’ve written different styles and tried setting a different mood but writing about love is what has stayed with me and I think I will stay with it for a while. Even if it’s not so literal like K or Sunsetz that were drawn from real memories, I can always write songs like Apocalypse about memories of people I know. It’s a dream I invented based on girls I dated. I didn’t really go crashing on a bridge, right? It’s just my style

EXCLUSIVE

so I don’t think I will ever stop writing about love; it’s what I’m passionate about writing. I don’t think I will ever run out of ways to do that.

:Which one of your own songs

is the closest to your heart?

I think I’m a Firefighter is a song I always come back to because it was written in a very dark place when a relationship was ending. The imagery of the song is very strong; the clothing, the amusement parks, just when you need someone’s love and you’re addicted to them.

:Tell me about your highest

high and your lowest low.

The best moment has been when I met my favourite singer Francoise Hardy in Paris, something I had dreamt about for years. We talked to her and she was very nice, it was surreal! She told me we were one of her favourite bands. The lowest was probably my first year in New York. It was snowing and so cold, and I got Cigarettes to perform at this place and there was literally no one in the audience so we didn’t play eventually.

: If any one of your songs would

have to describe your current

state of mind, which one would it

be?

It’s a lyric piece from Affection that goes - ‘‘Sometimes we talk all night long and we don’t shut up.’’ It just defines how I feel when I’m in a relationship and on tour because sometimes that is all we can do; talk on the phone so we’re always texting or talking to keep up with each other.

: You write so much about love,

romance and heartbreaks. Can

you describe the perfect woman

for you?

For me, it’ll have to be someone considerate. It’s such a red flag for me if she’s not. It’s such an important thing that it would turn me off even if I was attracted to her in other ways. Someone who’s very kind, does things for others from the heart because she cares for other people and wants them to be happy. That’s the perfect kind of girl for me. Also someone who can make me laugh for sure; she’s got have a great sense of humour! So that’s my imagination; very technical (laughs).

: Your favourite place to

perform?

We just played in France right by the beach and it was so beautiful! We saw the sun come down and listened to the waves crashing on so it was great!

: How do you like to spend your

downtime?

Right now, it’ll have to be sleeping in because we never get to sleep. So

just relaxing, lying in my bed, watching movies and having a cup of coffee.

: Can you describe a day in your

life for me?

It’s pretty much what it is- wake up at 9 am, get on the road at 10 am, check in a flight to go to another city or drive to another city, get there and go to the venue to start setting up, do the soundcheck, do interviews, have dinner or do a show, take pictures and then there are after-parties most of the time to celebrate. Sometimes, I get to write too but not a lot while on tour.

: Are you a Tech lover?

Yes, technology is something I always look forward to because I love to know what’s happening, learn about the latest headphones or cellphones, stuff for our guitars, stuff we can use in the studio or in the concerts. Technology helps make things so much easier and efficient!

: How are social media and

digital streaming impacting the

music scene?

Social media has been nothing but an advantage for us. It’s so important because we were unsigned by a record for a long time. Digital streaming is only 10 years old or something. Even though artists were much more well-sustained when they were selling copies and making money as opposed to now when they’re struggling, I think it’ll catch up sooner or later. The cool thing is that it’s convenient because it’s more accessible. I remember struggling to get myself so many records when I was small but couldn’t get a hold of because they were out of print.

: Most useful tech gadget.

Honestly, the craziest thing I bought to listen to music when I travel are the noise cancellation headphones. They’re really helpful and a great piece of gadget.

: Your favourite smartphone

app.

There’s this really cool app I use called Vivino because I like wine a lot. All you do is take a picture of the Wine bottle and the app scans it and tells you how good it is. So it’s really cool, I use it pretty often.

: One thing on the Bucket list for

you and the band?

Honestly, it’ll have to be playing on SNL. I grew up watching Saturday Night Live for the longest time since I was a kid and all the greatest bands have played on it so I would love to play on the show some time.

: Will your next album be along

the same lines?

Yes, it’ll be about love for sure! That’s how we’ve established our band.

: Any advice for aspiring

musicians?

No matter what, you just have to keep trying.

: One thing you now know that

your 15-years-old self needed to know.

When you’ll go on tour, you’ll have to take care of yourself and your body. Just keep an eye out of yourself and you’ll be happy.

: What are you looking forward to

seeing or experiencing at your first

show at NH7 Weekender in India?

I’m really excited because honestly when the band first got popularity in 2015, we had a lot of Indian fans who started following the band right away. We have a huge fan base in India and a lot of fans request us to ‘come to India, come to India’. A lot of them even come to our shows so it’ll be amazing and I’m really excited to see what it’ll be like!

: Any message for your fans in

India?

We love India and we cannot wait to finally come!

i think music is a way to let out how i’m feeling. i don’t talk a lot or share my feelings a lot so all these emotions build up inside me and i have to find a way to let them out or i'll go crazy. it’s actually out of necessity. ”

is an ex Indion Idol contestant

who has really made her mark in the Bollywood industry. From her berserk number like Saari Ke Fall Sa in R…Rajkumar to her the super melodious Gerua in Dilwale, she has definitely proved her singing prowess. In a candid conversation with harsha Prerna, she expressed her views on the digital streaming and social media’s influence while speaking about her upcoming projects.

: What is your style of

Music?

I sing things which I think will sound good on me. That’s my style! I don’t try things I am not confident on.

: Your thoughts on Social

Media, Music Promotion, and

Digital Streaming.

Call of the hour!! This is probably helping more and more audience to connect with various artists.

: Describe Antara Mitra’s

relationship with technology?

I am not very techy. I keep it to bare minimum! But in some fields technology is a must. Like I can’t live without phone and internet. And, a headphone is must in life.

: Who is your inspiration in

the Music field?

Everyone who does great music and supports good music inspires me! R D Burman to Pritam and Lata ji to Arijit they all are inspiring in their own way.

: The best and the worst

thing about being in this

profession? How would you

like to describe the life of a

playback singer?

The best passion is your profession. Worst thing is you are always struggling because the profession is extremely uncertain. That’s precisely the life of a playback singer! You struggle to get the first break and your struggle becomes double to get the second song. It’s always a struggle under a glamorous coating.

: What do you do when

you’re not dubbing or doing a

gig?

Reading books, catching up with

friends for a coffee, watching movies in theatres.

: Recently, a lot of actors have

been trying their luck in singing.

What are your thoughts on that?

I think it’s working for a particular audience that’s why people are doing it!! Not that all the songs sung by actresses are working. But I don’t mind as long as things are soothing ears ! However all of them are very average singer and few are quite bad.

: One thing you’d like to

change in the current music

scene?

I would love if independent music gets more love from music companies and labels!! That can change a lot of things for better.

: Are you a social networking

addict? How many times in a day

do you check updates?

Many times! Facebook and

Instagram to be precise!! Twitter not so much!!

: Tell me about a time when you

had to handle an unruly audience

member.

Many times there have been unruly audience! I generally stop the band and get into a conversation from the stage itself with that particular person. Basically, I address the person and crack jokes!! That always works!! When the rest of the audience notices that particular person is acting funny

then most of the times he gets a little conscious and stops behaving weird! That’s my trick!

: How often and for how long

do you practice your craft?

Oh my god what a soft nerve you have touched!! Actually lately I am acting very lazy and not practicing properly and am very upset about that! Soon I will change it and make sure that I sit to practice once in 24 hours for sure.

: If you weren’t into this field,

what would you be doing?

Teaching in some college or may be a Doctor.

: You’ve proved your singing

prowess in Gerua and Janam

Janam from Dilwale. Tell us about

the journey of making a song?

I have sung many scratches for Pritam Da, Gerua and Janam Janam were one of those tracks I did as shoot mix! But in both the songs the makers decided not to change the female vocal! I could not believe it to be very frank! And when I saw Gerua on big screen I was thrilled! Kajol is one of my most favourite actresses!! I could not believe my eyes seeing her lip syncing with my vocals!

: What can we expect next on

the cards?

Besides the film songs, I am coming up with a killer YouTube channel with great music.

: HealthifyMe has crossed 3.5m downloads and still counting and the graph looks great! How was the road to reach where you are today? tushar Vashisht: It started as an idea to use technology to help everyone get healthier and fitter. I was a banker on Wall Street in Singapore but I moved to India because I wanted to help build a better India. So a sense of configuration and impact was there from the beginning but after that I started to further look at what entrepreneurial ideas I can build on to further that impact. I was inspired after I lost 20 kgs I had gained when I moved to India just by keeping a track of my calories and fitness. I figured that others should also be allowed to do that. So through that, we started to build HealthifyMe as a calorie counter specifically for Indian foods and Indian lifestyle. We realised that a lot of apps don’t cater to Indian food as much and there was a need for it. An inflection point came around 2014-15 when we launched nutritionists and trainers on our platform. We started connecting people with professional coaches and that really worked out well for us. In fact, word of mouth is what has built our company so much today.

: Talk about the challenges you faced along the way. Perhaps the chief challenge would be figuring out how to monetise the platform. We had built a great platform as a great app but how do you build it from just a free app to an app that people would start to pay for? It was a huge challenge that we had to overcome but introducing nutritionists and trainers was a huge turning point for us.

: How difficult or easy was the journey to obtain funding for your app? Hard when we had no revenue model, easy when we started showing growth. Hard when

ealthifyMe, one of India’s leading fitness apps, has been

observing nothing but an upward graph in return for its efficient services. For the last issue of 2017, utsavi Jha caught the super-busy Co-founder of HealthifyMe, Mr. Tushar Vashisht, in a conversation about his journey, his vision, his ideas, and many other tech talks and it’s very insightful.

the app was small and easy when the app was the largest app in the country. Hard when we were figuring what we were going to build and easy when we were the highest-rated app in the country.

: What inspired you to take the entrepreneurial route and how did your previous jobs help?I’m a studious guy and I like problem solving so I think that’s the biggest reason why. I’m a very curious guy and that is exactly why I decided to leave my investment job and come back to India. Same reason is why I decide to live my life with 100 rupees a day and 35 rupees a day for a month to understand what an average Indian and what a poor Indian feels like just out of curiosity. And that is what has driven me and still drives. My next project is how we can use AI to make humans much more efficient because I’m never happy with how things are and I’m always trying to see how they can be much better.

: How would you like to chalk out your strengths and weaknesses?Strengths would be curiosity, optimism and perseverance. Weaknesses would be sometimes getting too carried away with the vision and not towards the reality. One has to be realistic. Sometimes optimism can also be a weakness.

: How promising does the health apps industry look to you now that internet connectivity is so strong and omnipresent? It’s the biggest sector for investment. The country has doubled its obesity levels in the last 10 years; it used to be 14% and now it’s 29% so that’s almost double. That’s more than a jump of double and that’ll only continue as people get sedentary jobs, more urban lifestyles, easy access to food, cabs and apps, and every app out is designed to integrate unhealthiness. Health is going down the drains, our food habits haven’t changed so it’s difficult to stay healthy. In such an environment, obviously, healthcare will thrive. My estimation is that in the next 12 months alone you will see an investment of a 100 million dollars so many more downloads for us to go, haha!

EXCLUSIVE

: What do you think of other fitness apps in the market right now and how do you deal with competition? I don’t care much about competition. I remain true to my consumers and follow the business that I have and if someone is better then it’ll challenge us, if someone is worse than us they’ll be beaten down by the market and, if someone is complementary to us then I would love to acquire them, partner with them, merge with them and build a better business. That is how I see competition: either they’ll challenges us, either they’ll die or be acquired by us!

: What do you think of India as a startup hub ? Huge potential! We have the world’s most talented engineers and some of the lowest cost english speaking services in the world. The west has a lot of technology but it doesn’t have data or the service or product so it can hardly build on AI because AI is only as good as the quality of data it has and how much human data you can feed in. Right now, it’s doing well in Robotics but India does well in services. So I think AI is the future and I won’t be surprised if all these companies start setting up their hubs in India.

: What challenges and perks come with being a startup owner? The challenge is that the pressure is always on your head; you are the more accountable person regardless of anything. If the company succeeds then great, if it fails it’s all on your head. The absolute amount of accountability that comes on your head is a challenge. It’s also not an easy path- things are not well-defined, there’s not enough funding. When it comes to the perks, it’s the tremendous satisfaction that comes with any high-accountability role.

: How is Social media affecting or shaping the entrepreneurial world right now? Some take it more seriously than others do, I don’t take it too seriously. Some use Twitter and Facebook to build their brand, I use that time to build my business. At a personal

level, it’s a great way to learn how the community is thinking but at a professional level, it’s definitely not necessary.

: Tech and Tushar Vashisht- what is the relationship like? It’s a love, love relationship! We have tech in the core of everything we do, particularly AI. I’m a computer-science undergrad at that made a huge difference in how I run the company now.

: What are some of your must-have gadgets? The bluetooth, noise cancellation earphones; I cannot live without them because I travel too much. I also like the whole Apple ecosystem too!

: If you could make your own gadget, what would it be and why? A smart automobile system. I think automobiles now all have USB cords and bluetooth ports so I’d like to build a quick add on to it that makes the automobile and user experience so much better than what it is!

: Which is the most unique gadget you’ve come across? Google Glass! I think it was phenomenal and it’s really sad that it was a failure and I hope it comes back.

: Which are some of your favorite books? Homodeus by Yuval Noah Harari is outsanding! It’s a beautiful vision of what people are going to look like. Also, probably the Game of Thrones set.

: Seeing in hindsight, what would you have different in your career? Do everything faster. I’ve realised that there’s no point trying to force the results. Also, I should’ve hired more rapidly when I had the money. I think I could’ve accomplished everything I did 2 years faster.

: What’s next for HealthifyMe? What future trend do you see? Now with AI, we hope to service millions of paying consumers. Each coach used to handle only 50 clients in the early days. Today we handle 250 people per coach without

any loss in quality and that is because of AI. A month ago, we launched Ria who is an AI nutritionist just like Siri or the Google Assistant so one can talk to the app and discuss things. It would be available in Hindi, English, regional languages. We’re hoping Ria handles 70-80% of the clients and only 20% by humans in the future. Basically we want to be the world’s go-to healthcare solution provider and we’ll use AI to do that.

he two talented sophomores from the University of Washington have invented something which will make communication easier for the deaf people. They have come up with the SignAloud, which is apparently a pair of sensor-filled gloves that interpret the hand movements used for communication by American Sign Language users. It further converts them into speech or text that the rest of the masses can easily understand.

Navid Azodi and Thomas Pryor are the two talented students who have designed these gloves inside the CoMotion MakerSpace which is a collaborative workshop in the campus. These two have been well appreciated for their remarkable idea and work. They recently received Lemelson-MIT Student Prize which is basically a yearly award given to undergraduates for innovative inventions. Navid and Thomas won in the “Use It” category and even got a $10,000 grant along with the award.

hoW Do These siGnalouD Gloves Work? The SignAloud Gloves works on a combination of sensors that interpret hand movements and position for sending detailed information to a computer via Bluetooth, where a statistical regression chooses the most likely word or phrase from a database of ASL signs. Further, the computer outputs the speech in the form of text or spoken words. Although there are other devices for translating ASL, they are really awkward and bulky. There’s one device which relies on a series of

sensors that are attached up and down the forearm and then combined with a large arm strap for reading muscle movements. Then, there’s another device which uses a camera for decoding ASL but is not very useful in the dark. There is another gadget known as the Accelaglove which combines accelerometers and a computer program but with a low-profile glove. Those devices which communicate with ASL generally require a translator for making themselves understood. The latest devices like these also allow them to communicate clearly on

their own terms by using technological intermediaries for bridging the gap between the spoken and the signed language. Thomas Pryor said in a press release, “our gloves are lightweight, compact and worn on the hands, but ergonomic enough to use as an everyday accessory, similar to hearing aids or contact lenses.”

The Best just got even better! If you have been a regular Exhibit reader, you would remember that we had mentioned in our OnePlus 5 review that the phone would have been ‘perfect’ with a bezel less display. Now OnePlus has just hit the final nail in the coffin by adding a banging new AMOLED 18:9 bezel-less display in the 5T. Here’s our first impression of the same.

Okay let’s start with the box- Just like all OnePlus devices, the 5T comes with a white color box with a red color base(similar to the OnePlus 5)- which aligns with the brand’s official color scheme. You’ll find a dash charger(something that OnePlus loyalists cannot live without now- and that includes me too) ,one translucent plastic back cover, sim card ejector and of course the user manual.

One great thing about OnePlus is that it knows it’s strength and sticks to its guns no matter whatever the competition is upto. The have still gone with a normal aluminum back in the 5T and there is no fragiley-fancy glass back. Yes, the mobile market still hasn’t gone through the wireless charging revolution yet and this brand understands that. Same goes for the 3.5mm audio jack which still makes a lot of sense in my opinion.

The 5T is the most premium looking device to have come out of Chinese smartphone manufacturer, mainly because of the new bezel less screen. The earlier OnePlus devices had a similar front design more or less starting all the way from the OnePlus 3 and its oval home button all the way till this year’s OnePlus 5. The USB-C port, speaker grilles and yes, the 3.5mm headphone socket all make a reappearance, as does the volume slider for muting or flipping into Do Not Disturb without digging through menus first.

Powering the OnePlus 5T is the same snappy 835 snapdragon processor as the OnePlus 5. Performance remains top notch and you can run as many apps as possible simultaneously-thanks to 8 gigs of RAM. Another new and intriguing feature in the 5T is Face unlock. It works using more than 100 identifiers to distinguish you from another person. (The company says it is different from the facial unlock features that have been in Android since version 4.0.) It works like a charm and is very quick to unlock and we will be doing a head on test with the Samsung’s Iris unlock and Apple’s Face Recognition very soon, however, I feel that OP’s Face Unlock might just come out on top!

The OnePlus 5 has always been a great performer and the 5T takes all the good bits of the 5 and adds to it a brilliant bezel less AMOLED display. After testing the 5T for over a week, we can safely say that it still remains to be the “King of Androids”.

: Tell us about your

journey. What led you to

become a Fashion Designer

and what draws you to

Fashion?

GAURAV GUPTA: It has been 10 years now. When I came back from studying at London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, and after a few jobs in Turkey and Italy I decided to launch my own brand. I think when I started out also I used to design for myself and even now I design for myself. It’s just that the market has adapted to my designs and my brand has created a very strong identity. It has been a natural evolution of my design sensibility. It has become more and more couture, detailed, obsessive, elegant and beautiful, and at the same time it’s progressive, edgy and cool. The market has grown into it.

: How would you like to

describe your own style of

design?

The brand has always been experimental, out of the box and sophisticated at the same time. There was this moment in 2007 when I realised that I am in India and so I just cannot ignore this market here. That was when we started making sari gowns and we got a great market and commercial reaction. Today we are making bespoke couture gowns for the country and internationally, and also pushing boundaries of what can be defined as Indian wear and Indo-western wear. In today’s times, it is something unique, innovative, structural, abstract yet universally beautiful. For example, sometimes I get specific requests for ball gowns which makes me realize the need. It is the concept of future primitive which describes my brand, wherein certain things are borrowed from the primitive culture of India and the

world. The indigenous techniques of futuristic boning, sculpting and motifs of Indian baroque come into play in this collection.

: Tell us about the fi rst

garment you designed

and what was it for?

It was for my first ever runway show, which was my NIFT Graduate show and I was just amazed that I could finish the collection in time.

The collection was called Alastor – which is a Greek mythological character. That played a foundation of what was to come and my learning was that hard work always pays off as I had also won some awards in Japan for that.

: Any challenges or

diffi culties you met with

on your path to becoming

the popular Designer you

are now?

The biggest challenge is to put up an organizational infrastructure to a company, to imbibe professionalism in people, and to become more humble as a person so that people are not constantly judging you and calling you a snob.

: Gaurav Gupta and

Tech – what is your take

on this relationship?

Technology is a part of all our lives and it has seeped into a lot of aspects of our life. Gaurav Gupta as a brand is on all kinds of social media, so technology touchpoints come in there. We are most excited about our first artificial intelligent garments made in India in collaboration with IBM and Watson that we did recently on the occasion of 10 years of Vogue. So our relationship with technology is going deeper.

GoPro, my iPhone, my Google Pixel phone, iPad, Apple TV, Google Pixel headphones, Bose soundtouch systems.

: Which are some of the

mandatory gadgets you use for

I use Bose speakers in my room so there is music around me while I’m sketching and phone cameras from which I take pictures of what I’m doing so I can refer back to it later. Then there are these apps such as ProCreate and Photoshop which my design team works with.

: How has the fashion scene

in India evolved over the

years and where do you see

it heading in the next 5

years?

It’s changing a lot! With the economic boom and a lot more aspiration in people to look cooler, they are experimenting a lot more. They understand the silhouette a lot more and not just the embroidery. They are able to understand and appreciate design and many aspects of design and thought. Having said that, fashion as an industry has a long way to go. It’s a very young industry in this country and in terms of retail & production infrastructure, the industry needs to evolve infrastructurally to a much larger and in an in-depth way.

: How is Digital

media/social media

impacting the Fashion

scene.

The emergence of social media has transformed the world and its entire way of functioning, bringing the world and its people closer. One industry that is considered to be perfectly suited and naturally fit for social media is Fashion. From the fashion blogs to the live streaming of catwalk shows, from the main fashion weeks to the social shopping, we get diversity of opinions on different places through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and other social networking websites. It has become the most important runway for the fashion industry. The power and influence of Social Media on the fashion industry is undeniable. Not only this but now

the fashion bloggers have a key role to play in the industry. They are considered to be thought leaders and have a voice in the industry.

: Your inspirations.

I am inspired by almost everything. My main inspiration comes from nature, forest, sky, water, shape, form, abstraction, art, architecture. It is almost mostly abstract, something fantastical. Also, forests and fantasy characters bring out all the creativity in me. For me that’s the space that I live in. In my mind, I’m always living in this fantasy space so much so that sometimes I don’t even know the difference between fantasy and reality. A forest has many layers to it; it’s the basis of our survival of the planet and the universe.

: The best memory of

your career.

That would be my top 3 shows- Lightfall Couture 2013, Lakme Fashion Week Finale and Moondust- which were like milestone moments.

et’s get back to our everlasting debate: what’s better, an Android phone or the iPhone? Since

it is the end of 2017, this debate has kind of become futile. Both the types of smartphones have become so good that it barely matters which one you pick. All this until you bring in the latest iPhone X. With the advent of iPhone X, Android devices have again taken a back-foot.

The iPhone X can be termed as the best phone any android user has ever had. The iPhone X can be a sort of tempt even when you are an avid Android user, and right here are the reasons why the device can allure the toughest Android freaks.

There are some handsets offering exquisite metals or jewels on case, but they are flashy; when it comes to good taste, the iPhone X is the one that stands out. The stainless steel case of the iPhone X syncs well with its glass structure. The chrome touch also looks decent on the iPhone.

Basically, when you place the iPhone X beside any other phone, including another iPhone, you will pick the iPhone X. The design that speaks to a person’s heart matter and the iPhone X has gotten it absolutely right when it comes to making an appeasing design for the concerned consumers.

Despite that notch, iPhone X’s screen is the best part about the phone. It looks bright and expansive with an almost edge-to-edge display. More than anything, though, it is what the colors the screen displays, which makes it so attractive. The screen looks like it is painted on the phone.

To further glorify iPhone X’s screen, the display makes use of OLED panel, which is better as we have seen on the Samsung phones. Perhaps, the main aspect that makes the screen of the iPhone X so blameless is its color calibration and the brilliant hues it shows. No Android phone offers that kind of screen.

Quick Performance, excellenT harDWareIdeally, the processor in the iPhone is very fast. The smartphone uses an A11 Bionic processor. Apple has also altered animations in the iOS 11. Consequently, as a result, the iPhone X has turned out to be very quick and responsive.

This is an area where Pixel 2 XL and the iPhone X are competing hard. Now, the Pixel 2 XL offers a somewhat better quality in photography compared to the iPhone X. However, since you get flamboyant animations along with agile software with the iPhone X, you will thoroughly enjoy what quick browsing feels like. The device will get upgraded for at least 2 years (maybe 3 years too), just like the latest Pixel 2 XL. Compared to other Android phones, you can note that the Apple updates are so much better.

The best part is that iPhones from this year will also

provide you with international warranty. So even if you buy your iPhone in the US, you will be able to service it in India, given it is under warranty.

The Face ID is a pioneering step in itself, even if it isn’t as fast as a finger-print sensor. This innovation is special, until other phones also come up this kind of feature. Apple has taken a notch higher with its Animoji feature. It feels charming to record your own customized animojis that mimic your tone and expressions.

We can say it for sure that no Android device offers such functionalities for the smartphones such as iPhone X does.

India emerged as a key player in the Space surveillance and communication industry after successfully launching a record-breaking number of 104 satellites using a single rocket. It also proved its growing domination in the commercial market for its effective yet low-cost missions. India’s International Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved this unimaginable feat after the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV C37 launched India’s weather observation Cartosat-2 Series satellite alongside 103 nanosatellites into Space from its space centre in Sriharikota.

2017 was a year of sensational acquisitions and mergers. Verizon made headlines with its $4.5 billion acquisition of Yahoo, who had agreed to sell the company’s core internet operations to Verizon after looking for “strategic alternatives” for its core business. Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart acquired the Indian wing of eBay in April infusing $500 million into it as Flipkart doesn’t have the global presence. Axis bank, keeping up with its image of being one of the few tech-savvy banks in India, acquired Accelyst Solutions Private Limited and Freecharge Payment Technologies Private Limited for $60 million in order to ease digital banking. Airtel and Telenor also announced their high-profile merger to combat disruption caused by the new entrant Reliance Jio.

President Trump made news thus inviting wrath with his policies in the form of the Executive order that banned immigrants and visa holders from 7 Muslim-majority countries namely - Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Sudan and Somalia - to enter the United States for 90 days. It also banned refugee admission for 120 days in addition to putting Christian refugees before others. This move was claimed to give a clear reason for ISIS to start a war. However, courtesy to the numerous protests, the ban was later lifted.

On August 21, for the first time in 99 years, the whole of North America witnessed a Social Eclipse of varying degree, a time when the Moon passes in front of the Sun thus casting darkness across patches on the Earth’s surface. 14 states like Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina experienced complete blackout right in the middle of the day with Illinois in Chicago experiencing the longest one lasting two minutes and 40 seconds.

What can probably be called a new mode of transportation introduced for the first time in over 100 years, The Hyperloop is a super transportation concept that makes use of magnetic levitation and electrical charges to make transportation faster. The concept transitioned into reality after a successful first, though limited, full-scale test run by Hyperloop One in a vacuum environment in mid-May at the company’s development test loop just north of Las Vegas where it hit nearly 2Gs of acceleration and a speed of 70 miles per hour during the run.

2017 wasn’t the first time that this deadly social media challenge surfaced on the internet but it definitely was the year it caught eyeballs by revealing the dark side of social media and internet. The challenge targeted vulnerable pre-teens or teenagers who were made to complete 50 tasks with the final one being committing suicide. Blue Whale originated in Russia and has claimed lives of over 130 boys and girls all over the world ever since.

Smartphones easily dominate human existence now that they have come to become parallel to humanity. No wonder Smartphone brands make world news and shape what the future innovations will be like with what they let out in the world. Like every year, Apple returned with a new launch in the form of the super amazing iPhone X to celebrate 10 years since the first phone was launched. Google didn’t lag behind and launched the super productive Pixel 2 model. This was also the year Samsung performed at par with its 8+ and made news for all the right reasons.

You ask anyone about their favourite supercar no matter what age group or part of the world- there is a very strong chance of the word “Lamborghini’ coming on top. leT’s have a look inTo This iTalian suPercar maker’s hisTory! The brand Lamborghini was started by Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1963. The first famous production model from the carmaker was the Miura sports coupé in 1966. The important and noteworthy thing about the Miura

was the fact that it established the rear mid-engine, rear wheel drive as the standard layout for high-performance cars of the era.

Also, legend has it that Lamborghini was founded because Ferrari used tractor clutches and had crummy customer service. Ferruccio famously owned a Ferrari 250GT, which he took in to be serviced at the Maranello headquarters after realizing that the clutch was identical to the one being used on his production line. He politely asked Enzo Ferrari for a replacement part, who replied “You’re just a silly tractor manufacturer, how could you possibly know anything about sports cars?”This triggered Ferruccio and technically just four months later he unveiled the Lamborghini 350GTV !

Lamborghini grew rapidly during its first decade, but sales plunged in the wake of the 1973 worldwide financial downturn and the oil crisis. The firm’s ownership changed three times after

1973, including a bankruptcy in 1978. American Chrysler Corporation took control of Lamborghini in 1987 and sold it to Malaysian investment group Mycom Setdco and Indonesian group V’Power Corporation in 1994. In 1998, Mycom Setdco and V’Power sold Lamborghini to the Volkswagen Group where it was placed under the control of the group’s Audi division.New products and model lines were introduced to the brand’s portfolio and brought to the market and saw an increased productivity for the brand Lamborghini. In the late 2000s, during the worldwide financial crisis and the subsequent economic crisis, Lamborghini’s sales saw a drop of nearly 50 percent.

Recently, we saw the SUV concept Urus from Lamborghini but this isn’t the first time that the carmaker has tried its hands with an SUV- the made the LM002. They generally came with “just” a Countach V12, but — and at least one was built this way— it was way better with a powerboat motor from Motori Marini Lamborghini, pumping out over 700 hp.

This is not known by a lot of people but Lamborghini has won a ton of offshore powerboat championships- and Motori Marini Lamborghini’s engines are some of the most gorgeous internal combustion engines ever assembled. They are 8.1-liters in capacity and can put out up to 775bhp of power!

Another less known fact about the brand is that the first Lamborghinis were tractors, and they’re still made today. It all started back in the day when during the WWII when Ferocio when he got home he started piecing together tractors out of spare parts. People loved them, and his tractor business took off overnight. They’re no longer part of the same company, but Lamborghini Trattori are still designed by the same firm that created the Gallardo and the Maserati MC12. They range in price from $30,000 to over $300,000.

There is only one doubt that I have in mind that do these still count as tractors? Or wait a second, will these count as a “Lamborghini” in your garage?

The cult ‘pop’ culture somehow associated itself with the brand like nothing else back in 1960’s. Everyone including famous hollywood celebs like Jay Leno, Dean Martin had a Miura. Frank Sinatra even went ahead and gave the famous quote , “You buy a Ferrari when you want to be somebody. You buy a Lamborghini when you are somebody.”

Every Lamborghini model is named after an Italian fighting bull - Aventador, Huracan, Gallardo are all named after them. No wonder that even the brand’s logo has the image of a raging bull ready to be unleashed.

Lamborghini is not just limited supercars and engines, the brand also diversified itself into designing clothing and accessories under the Tonino Lamborghini brand, as well as designing the Town Life, an electric microcar which was revealed at the Bologna Motor Show in 1999. Ferruccio's daughter, Patrizia Lamborghini, runs the Lamborghini winery on his Umbria estate. In 1995 Ferruccio's son Tonino opened a museum that honors Lamborghini's legacy, the Centro Studi e Ricerche Ferruccio Lamborghini in Dosso (Ferrara), which was moved to Argelato (Bologna) in 2014 with the new name Ferruccio Lamborghini Museum. Tonino Lamborghini Style and Accessories company was started with an the ideation to create luxury accessories and design projects which aligned with the ‘raging Bull' brand. The company has also released Android smartphones. Tonino Lamborghini's latest mobile launch is the Alpha-One. The smartphone was launched in August 2017.

Last year, the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based supercar manufacturer is reporting an increase of seven percent to a total of 3,457 units globally compared to 3,245 in 2015. This is the first time Lamborghini surpassed the 3,400 units mark following six years of continuous growth. The current result is 2.6 times better than the one in 2010.

“In 2016 Lamborghini has proven to be in excellent shape,” Stefano Domenicali, chairman and chief executive officer of Lamborghini, declared. “The company delivered another record year in terms of sales and continued to outperform key business objectives. This new all-time high is once more confirming the substance and sustainability of our brand, product and commercial strategy. This is a real team achievement and it is all the more remarkable as we are at the same time preparing not only for new models in

our super sports car range, but for a company-wide quantum leap in our product portfolio – the third model line.”

Currently, Lamborghini has 135 dealers in 50 countries around the world. A more detailed look into the 2016 stats shows the Italian brand is well-balanced among the three main regions, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), America and Asia Pacific, which each account for approximately one third of global deliveries. What’s more, all of them set new records last year.

America is still the biggest single market for Lamborghini cars with 1,041 units registered in 2016, followed by Japan, UK, Germany, Canada, the Middle East, and China. The brand’s most popular model currently is the Huracan, which sold 2,353 units in Coupe and Spyder versions. Two new members will join the Huracan family next year, the Huracan Spyder Performante and the Huracan Superleggera, with sales of the range expected to surpass the 2,500 mark this year.

As for the flagship 12-cylinder Aventador, a total of 1,104 examples were delivered last year against 1,003 in 2015. in December 2016 the model production reached 6,000 units.

America continues to be the biggest market for Lamborghini whereas there has been a uprise in demand in the Indian market as well. The carmaker has been launching its international models timely in our market which has kept things afresh and the probable buyers excited. Further, Lamborghini also organises race track events where probable buyers are invited to test out the cars which has helped the brand to improve its sales figures.

3.iCoNiC BRAND PoSiTioNiNG: Jaguar and Land Rover are recognized as highly coveted luxury brands in the world with many accolades to their credit

: What major launches can we expect at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo? Any possibility of the new Velar India launch at the Expo? rs : We recently launched the All-New Land Rover Discovery

at a starting price of `71.38 Lakh (ex-showroom).The All-New Discovery plugs a very important gap between Discovery Sport and Range Rover Sport. At a price of `71.38 lakh for the petrol derivative, it is a very important price point. Additionally, we will launch the New Range Rover Velar in the coming months and will make an announcement on this shortly.

: Do you think that the Indian market will be fully ready for Electric Vehicles by 2030? What is JLR’s strategy for the same? rs : Jaguar Land Rover announced the launch of its first electric car -I-PACE in global markets and there is nothing to stop it from coming to India. However, our plans will be based on readiness and availability of infrastructure to support electric vehicles.

: JLR is known to launch products in an eccentric manner. What is the reason for this? Has it helped the brand?rs : Jaguar Land Rover’s brand vision is to deliver customer experiences that are memorable. Any event we do is an opportunity to deliver such experiences, born out of key consumer insights, our events are meant to deliver on this vision. Rather than being just another event they are targeted at the customer.

Whether it was the F-PACE launch in downtown Mumbai where we created a 60-foot tall beacon to

announce the arrival of the product into

India or the launch of the Discovery

in a large carnival like environment at

an open-air location, our events are designed to engage and excite our target audience.

The feedback from customers and media

on our events has been overwhelming as these events are still remembered and talked about by them with enormous excitement till date.

: LRE and TAOPT are activities that are helping the brand reach out to potential customers. What are the way forward plans? rs : Jaguar and Land Rover are iconic brand with products renowned for their legendary design and all-terrain capability. Through experiential drive events including the Land Rover Experience and The Art of Performance Tour, we seek to familiarize our customers with the actual prowess of our vehicles.

The Art of Performance Tour is a series of dynamic events that provide an opportunity to the customer to experience what it's like to get behind the wheel of a Jaguar under the guidance of expert instructors. Customers experience Jaguar’s unique offering that combines exhilarating performance in an ambience of seductive luxury that truly excites the senses. On the other hand, Land Rover Experience involves getting behind the wheel of a Land Rover to take on an exciting drive experience over different terrains and challenges.

Encouraged by the response for both these activities, we are conducting multiple dynamic drive experiences for Jaguar and Land Rover, across the length and breadth of India.

: You’ve been spotted driving the old (previous gen) Discovery around Mumbai. Any special story/connect with that particular car? Is that your daily drive?rs : Yes it’s my daily drive and the Discovery has always been my first choice on account of it being one of the most versatile and capable vehicles, both on-road and off-road.

he year 2017 has been a mixed bag for the Indian auto industry

because of some socio-economic decisions that have or have not really played out well. The cars that still did well definitely deserve a special mention and here is a list of cars which excelled in 2017!

Topping the sales chart for Honda, the WR-V uses the same engine as the Honda City i.e a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine which is good enough for 100PS of power whereas the petrol variants get the same tried and tested 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine. Our market is currently witnessing a SUV favoring trend owing to which, even the sub 4 metre space is seeing a lot of demand for compact SUVs or crossovers.

WR-V offers Honda City like features, similar powertrains, SUV-ish stance and a smaller price tag because of it being under 4 metres( lesser tax slab). The combination of these 4 factors is the success mantra for the WR-V.

Having a Maruti on this list in not a surprise and the Indian auto giant is known to introduce the right model facelifts and updates at the perfect time. Dzire now loses the ‘Swift’ Moniker from its badging and has been burning up the sales charts ever since it has been launched. Under the hood of the new Dzire are the same tried and tested set of engines. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.2-litre K Series engine which is good enough for 82 bhp of power and 113 NM of torque whereas the diesel models get the 1.3-litre DDiS Multijet engine which is good enough for 75bhp of power along with 190 NM of torque. You also get the choice of a manual and automatic transmission now with both petrol and diesel plants.

The new Dzire is based on an all new platform and is a huge departure from the previous model in terms of aesthetics, safety and features.

The Swift hatchback will be showcased/launched at the upcoming 2018 Indian Auto Expo and it will share a lot with the new Dzire.

There is no denying the fact that we Indians love SUVs and when one talks about them in India, Fortuner is amongst the first names that pops out. What makes it so special? Brawny dimensions, brand reliability and relatability play a major role in Fortuners success. Fortuner is offered with two engine options in India. The diesel variants are powered by a 3.0-litre unit which is good enough for 169bhp of power along and 343 NM of torque whereas the petrol variants get a 2.7-litre unit which is good enough for 163bhp of power along with 245 NM of torque.

Verna has been launched in the second half of the year and has still created a stir in the sedan segment. We drove the new Verna a couple of months back and one noteworthy thing to take home about was that the driving dynamics have improved drastically from the last generation. Further sweetening the deal are segment first features like cooled seats whereas Hyundai’s tried and tested power plants i.e a 1.6-litre diesel engine and a 1.6-litre petrol engine continue to serve the purpose well.

Error! The brand that you are trying to find does not sell cars in India anymore. However, this might come across as a shocker that Beat is currently India’s most exported car ! So it does deserve to be on this list for sure.

The Tiago continues to be a high seller for Tata in India and the carmaker has now introduced a new automatic variant of the same. Tiago is based on Tata’s new Impact design philosophy and the car has been doing well in India ever since it was launched last year. The AMT variant has been launched this year and it uses the same 1.2-litre petrol variant under the hood which is good enough to produce 85 bhp of power along with 114 NM of torque. It is paired up to an automated manual gearbox which requires a little getting used to. I have been driving the same as my daily city car these days and I can without a doubt tag it as ‘the best city car’ owing to its compact dimensions, good fuel economy and of course the automatic gearbox.

Mercedes surprised everyone by launching only the long wheelbase updated variant of the E Class in India. However, the same has been doing really well in India ever since it has been launched and it again emphasizes on the fact that the carmaker Mercedes is doing things differently in the Indian market. You get a choice of two engine options with the new E Class- the E200 variants are powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine which churns out 184 bhp of power along with 300NM of torque whereas the bigger diesel option comes in the form of a 3.0-litre V6 motor which is good enough for 354 brake horsepower.

OcTAVIA SKodA VRS

RS is to Skoda what M is to BMW, AMG is to Mercedes, SVR is to Range Rover and Polestar is to Volvo. To put it simply- the performance inducing, steroid injecting wing of the brand whose only job is to make your everyday machine behave like a sports car. Suspension tweaks, engine power output bumps, louder exhausts are amongst the very basic mods that these ‘performance’ variants go through.

by Konark Tyagi

WhaT’s inTeresTinG aBouT The ocTi rs?Well, Skodas, as we all know, are known to be priced very aggressively when compared its German siblings or counterparts. Take the example of the Skoda Superb- it offers more legroom and comfort at the back then even the Audi A6 which is a proper segment (approx 30lakhs) above the Superb.

The RS badge is not new to the Indian market. It was first introduced with the Octavia MK 1 in India which debuted way back in early 2000’s. The car was an instant hit amongst enthusiasts and gave the brand a ‘performance car’ image and edge over its rivals. Then the MK 2 Octavia which was christened as the “Laura” in India ( I bet you there was no local market research done before the christening) got an RS variant which was more of a cosmetic job with a similar powertrain as the normal Laura i.e 1.8-litre unit churning out 160 PS of power.

Now, in 2017, the Czech carmaker has come out all guns blazing and introduced the same Euro-specced RS variant of the MK 3 Octavia in India. It comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged oil burner paired with a 6-speed DSG and even the suspension is full Euro Spec! Finally, someone heard the enthusiast’s cringe!

Let’s talk about the aesthetic changes first- starting from the front, the RS comes with an all-new bumper which looks more aggressive than the usual Octi and compliments the lowered stance of the car(The RS is 9mm lower than the standard car). move over to the sides and you will notice striking 17-inch wheels wrapped in 224/45 Michelin Pilot Sport rubber which work really well in keeping

all of that power down(more on this later). RS branded red colour brake calipers are also a giveaway of the fact that this ain’t no slouchy Octi. Move to the back and you cannot miss out on the spoiler which has been integrated pretty neatly. Dual exhausts and RS badging are other to changes here. A flat bottom steering with RS badging is the first thing that you’ll not once you enter the cabin. Most of the elements have been blacked out owing to the sporty theme and you get a nice red accent in the footwell and the doors as well. Another noteworthy change inside the cabin is the new Alcantara wrapped seats which chunky RS logos in the centre. The front seats offer good bolstering and support and make sure that you don’t move around much while darting the RS into those sharp corners. I expected these seats to be stiff and uncomfortable for long drives but while driving the car constantly for 5 hours in rush hour traffic, I could hardly realise that I wasn’t sitting on some chunky comfy piece of leather which just goes on to show how comfortable they are.The infotainment unit is as good as before(probably the best in this segment) and comes straight from the top end Octi variant along with all the other bells and whistles plus safety kit like 8 airbags, ABS, ASR, ESP- name it and it’s there. DriveNow coming to the most important bit- the performance and driving dynamics. So before I start, let me put forward the point that I have been a Stage 2 Skoda Laura owner for the last 4 years and had really high expectations from the RS. So I decided to go a bit easy on the car initially just to absorb the initial feel. The first thing that impressed me is the sitting position and the steering wheel feel. You can easily get into your preferred driving position using the electric buttons and can save you position into the memory setting. There is a slight mumble from the exhaust as soon as you fire the 2.0-litre turbocharged unit. Once you get

EXTREmE

moving in D mode, the 6-speed dual clutch DSG gearbox does its job well while upshifting directly in accordance with your throttle response. It doesn’t come across as very aggressive engine-gearbox setup down low in the rev range and you are gentle on the throttle, it will upshift as early as 2000rpm without any drama. Slot the gearbox into S mode or hold it above 3000 rpm in manual mode and you will feel all the 230 horses and 350 Newtons come alive- pushing you back in the Alcantara covered seats. It pulls cleanly all the way up to 6000rpm and Skoda’s claimed 0-100kmph sprint time of 6.8 seconds is very much achievable. There is a nice raspy snarly note from the dual exhausts once you’re over 3000 rpm and every redline shift is accompanied by a ‘braap’.

Now all this power in a front wheel drive car can be a bit concerning but not here in the RS as it comes with a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) and its job is to ensure that the car does not break traction beyond controllable limits. When you are darting it hard into corners, the LSD ensures that the outer wheel spins faster than the inside wheel which cuts down understeer phenomenally. To put it down simply, the RS feels very comfortable doing corners at high speeds.

shoulD i Buy one?Let me make this very simple- If you like power( I mean who doesn’t) and you are looking for a practical sedan with a proper boot and enough space for 5 adults under `30 Lakh- the Octavia RS will the bill better than anything else in our market. Also, Skoda’s have always been very tuner friendly and a simple remap can give it enough grunt to take on sports sedans like the Audi S5 and the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG. However, according to a few reports, Skoda has sold old the first lot of the Octavia RS in India so you might have to wait for a while before you can get your hands on one! (I am glad that I can get my hands on the media fleet whenever I feel like :P).

e all know about Amazon’s drone delivery system and how it made a successful

delivery of bag of popcorn earlier this year. It is very much clear now that Drones are planned to be used to deliver things in the future. How-ever, there are a lot of things need to be arranged before they are able to do so. One of such examples is to “divide” the sky into a few layers to avoid the drones from being hit by aeroplanes or other drones. Starship, a startup technology company, is developing a self driving robot which travels on the sidewalk to deliver your parcel to your doorstep.

The self driving delivery robot will be a small electric powered vehicle which is able to carry things equiv-alent to two shopping bags to the recipient’s doorstep. The device will be running on integrated navigation and it will be fully autonomous. However, there is human operator to make sure that the parcel is de-livered to the recipient’s house. The device also will be able to recognise pedestrians and moving through a really slow speed of up to four miles an hour.

The benefit of using the self driving delivery robot is that the recipients will be able to choose the delivery time slot and the device will deliver

SELf DRIVING RObOT to Deliver StuffAT YoUr DoorSTEp!

the parcel at their assigned time. Therefore, they do not have to wait for it to arrive. Another benefit is that, the recipients able to track the device through a smartphone app and the cargo will only be unlocked by them. One disadvantage though, is that the self driving delivery robot can be stolen entirely while it travels to the recipient’s home. The self driv-ing delivery robot will be available in US, UK and other countries starting in 2016.

E -commerce giant Amazon re-cently surprised everyone with an unmanned delivery using a Drone. For the unaware, a Drone is an un-manned aerial vehicle with no pilot onboard. It is controlled by a person on the ground or through a comput-er. Drones have been garnering a lot of attention for wildlife photography and disaster relief purposes along with defense and military usage. Now, even product deliveries are kicking off with Amazon completing a successful delivery recently. Here’s what was interesting. Amazon has been working on hitchhiking drones which can assemble and disassem-ble themselves since a couple of years. The drone delivery concept will rapidly bring down the delivery time and aid in boosting the efficien-cy of the entire system. However, the Amazon Delivers Popcorn Using a Drone! drone that was used for the delivery in UK last year by Amazon was more like a conventional quad-copter but the future drones will most likely have more potent horizontal and vertical rotors. In December

last year, Amazon delivered a bag of popcorn and an Amazon fire TV in just 13 minutes! A quote from Amazon’s website- “ We’re excited about Prime Air — a delivery system from Amazon designed to safely get packages to customers in 30 minutes or less using unmanned aerial vehicles, also called drones. Prime Air has great potential

to enhance the services we already provide to millions of customers by providing rapid parcel delivery that will also increase the overall safety and efficiency of the transportation system.” The self delivery drones are a far fetched site in India but all we can say is - Keep an eye out on the skies!

mi mix 2

10020 6000 70

ith the launch of the Mi Mix in China last year, Xiaomi caught the

smartphone industry by surprise with futuristic bezel-less displays. But sadly, the device never made to India. Thankfully, Xiaomi brings the next version of Mi Mix in the

Indian market at an attractive price. In our review of the Mi Mix 2, we take a look at what it offers and try to answer if the device is indeed worth the ` 35,999 price tag that Xiaomi has slapped on it.

how DoEs it fEEl out of thE box?

The Mi Mix 2 like its predecessor, uses premium ceramic material and a display that occupies almost the entirety of the phone’s front. However, there are some key differences to the device when compared to Mi Mix. The Mi Mix 2’s main selling point is the display, it sports 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Due to the bezel-less design, the device is equal to the size of 5.5 inch smartphones. Because of narrow bezel, the phone should be manageable for one-handed usage. However, in our time with the device, single-handed use still remains an issue. At the back, the Mi Mix 2 is crafted using a ceramic sheet that melts into the phone’s frame carved out of aluminium alloy. Although the use of ceramic makes this phone virtually scratch-proof and improves the look of the device, it also makes it more

fragile than a glass back phone. For that matter, ceramic is also more prone to fingerprints in comparison to glass and metal. Thankfully, the Mi Mix 2 comes with a thin, rubberized case in the box. I find myself using the phone exclusively with the case on.

how DoEs it pErform?

Coming to the internals, the phone comes with top-notch hardware and boasts powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and Adreno 540 GPU coupled with 6GB of RAM and built-in 128 GB storage. The phone feels snappy and multitasking is fluid without any lag. We tested a handful of applications, including games, and did not encounter any lag or issues. However, when playing graphics intensive games for a short period, the device ceramic back did get a bit warm.

On the surface, MIUI 9 isn’t all that different from MIUI 8. There’s no app drawer, there is some bloatware but those can be easily organized into a single folder and MIUI 9 feels pretty lightweight and fast. The new MIUI 9 feature Split Screen Mode. As its name

testing

suggests, it allows two applications to run side-by-side, and thanks to the Mi Mix 2’s 18:9 display, there’s more screen real estate to take advantage of Split Screen Mode. Sadly, the Mi Mix 2 still runs the year-old Android 7.0 Nougat instead of new Android 8.0 Oreo.

how is thE CamEra?

Talking about the camera, the Mi Mix 2 has a very same 12-megapixel camera as the Xiaomi Mi 6(minus the telephoto lens), the Mi Mix 2 captures decent images and video. I got some really good shots under ideal lighting and the camera app is pretty responsive. The Mi Mix 2 camera is good, but hugely dependent on good lighting.

vErDICT

The Mi Mix 2 is a sleek looking flagship smartphone from Xiaomi. The phone features a design that is dominated by the immersive display and impressed with the edge-to-edge experience. Well, like any other device, the phone has its pros and cons. We witness a frequent call drop on both incoming and outgoing calls even though we have the strongest network in our area. The front camera is located at the unusual location which makes it difficult to capture good selfies unless you turn the phone by 180-degrees. it looks great and proves to be a winner when it comes to performance. if you can live with the Mi Mix 2’s average camera and Xiaomi’s own Miui 9, then it is certainly a compelling flagship.

And what more, it is so easily available, that too free of cost, 24/7

Porn has always remained ahead when it comes to tech innovation. Do you remember what Betamax

is? Not really? For your knowledge, before VHS ruled the video industry, Betamax and VHS were the competing formats used exclusively in the 1980s.

Betamax didn’t accept to use porn on its format. However, VHS had no such intentions. And similarly, Blu-ray took over the HD-DVD issue two decades later. Though internet was initially manufactured by the military, it was only adopted by a large mass of consumers because of the availability of porn.

Online payments such as credit card payments only came to light because the porn sites pushed them. Even

something like the streaming technology

In this multi-facetedrange, let’s specifically consider how the internet has changed the distribution of pornography.Ever wondered how the blue movies and Internet are affecting aes-thetics, technology, performers, and us. First up, what actually is porn’s role in pushing the VR technology ahead?

popularized by pornography. Now it is time for porn to thrust the development of virtual reality. The porn industry does so to make it accessible to the masses on a grand scale.

Pornography has reigned this persistent course of innovations because it has always been reinforced by the aspiration to connect with boundless yet shy audience. And that is what internet promised. The place offered apervasive manner to connect with millions of users at the privacy of their very own houses. The internet turned out to be the Holy Grail that flooded new revenue streams by reaching to broader audiences, eventually increasing the scalability of the item. However, to no one’s surprise, it’s confirmed to be a double-edged sword. It has started to lurk over the porn producers. The web has democratized the production of porn.

After that, anyone could film their moments and upload them to the web. Now, just as the record labels fought with piracy and the various other issues of monetizing the content streaming, everyone: porn producers and performers, were struggling to strive with an infinite online sea of free material, all thanks to inventive mates at home and their pointless brawl against online piracy.

Although performers have started to cam work as substitute revenue, porn studios are now turning further ahead to…the Virtual Reality.

A bunch of statistics discharged by the top-most adult website,Pornhub, has unraveled a gigantic upsurge in the curiosity for VR pornography, ever since its germination in the industry in June 2016. The viewership of the 360 degree videos have risen by a massive 250%.

After all, pornography has always been publicized as one of the major exponents for the hardware stand with it being described by those in the industry as a “game changer.” Some dashing headsets such as the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive came with controllers that let users to ‘touch’ and manipulate objects. All this gave the porn industry the probability of making things more ‘real’ for the viewer

The adult production houses superbly gloat their own horns for being the chargers of make-or-break promising technologies. After Betamax, Blu-ray, and HD-DVD, now, the adult industry is playing a pivotal role in aiding the virtual reality in order to evade being a dud.

As the technology begins to enhance itself, the hardware starts be-coming more and more reachable for the masses. Consequently, the growth of VR porn is certainly going to be one of the fastest growing categories for the porn websites.

he latest statistics present how the immersive demand for VR adult videos is growing day by day.

The daily viewership of VR adult films have gone from 1,80,000 to now around 5,00,000 as per Pornhub’s Insights service. This service offers a stimulating infographic photograph of visitors’watching behaviors. One such outstanding statistics represent how the Christmas Day disturbingly sees the prime spike with 9,00,000 views.

VR porn is mainly on such a rise because of the growth in affordable headsets. Google’s Cardboard and Daydream devices, along with Samsung’s flagship Galaxy range have all given this industry hysteria back in 2016 when the Samsung’s S7 was shipped with its Gear headset. This may explain why so many people watched porn on Christmas Day. The new owners of this gifted VR headsets apparently couldn’t contain their excitement to see what the immersive tech is capable of doing.

Pornhub, the leading website, affirmed that it houses over 2,600 VR related videos, which is more than the limited 30 in June 2016. They also feature a range of the most popular searches from ‘VR’ to ‘VR POV’. As per Pornhub’s statistics, men are 160% more probable to watch VR videos compared to women.Additionally, Thailand is the country that has searched for most VR-related videos. The runner ups include Hong Kong and the Philippines as the second and third most interested states.

ELEcTRIck!ouch screen smartphones and tablets have definitely made our lives easier. The touch screens are

intuitive and even a child can operate it. Have you ever thought of turning a normal boring surface into a touch screen? Thanks to scientists at Carnegie Mellon University, we might soon be able to turn anything into a touch screen. These scientists came up with a way of using conductive spray paint for making almost any object touch-friendly.

First let me explain how a touch screens work! The touch screen display on tablet or a smartphone carries a tiny electrical charge which gets disrupted when someone operates it with a finger. This conducts electricity away. The smartphone knows where it has been touched and detects where on the screen occurs the loss of charge. A new experimental technology known as Electrick has been discovered by the scientists at Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute.

Things like Guitar are not designed in a way for carrying an electrical charge. So, in order to make this work, they have to be first upgraded with a conductive spray paint coat, special film, and more materials for allowing them to conduct electricity. But, the charge should be in a generous amount so as it doesn’t give shock when touched. The charge should be just enough for allowing a series of electrodes placed around the edge of the object for detecting a charge when a human finger makes contact by re-routing some of the current on the ground.

The researchers, in this case, used a carbon conductive aerosol paint which has been designed to reduce static buildup or alternatively to block radio frequency signals in

sensitive electronics. This technique which is used for turning that spray paint into a touch screen is known as an electric field tomography. It works by sending an electrical charge through just two of the electrodes at a time. After that, it measures the charge received by all of the others.

The changes in that measured charge can be used by calculating where a human makes contact with the object. However, this approach isn’t as perfect as a touch screen of the smartphone. But, the researchers have now found that they can calculate the finger’s location with about one centimeter accuracy. Although, the most notable thing here, is that the touch screen surfaces no longer have to be just flat and small.

The researchers from the university were able to turn a four-by-eight-foot sheet of drywall into a giant touch-friendly surface. Not only this, even a human brain recreated from Jell-O responded to finger touches using the cheaper approach of Electrick! The question that arises in my mind is: Will this new technology replace the technology used in smartphones? I guess the answer would be negative. However, it could make the way for everything else in our home for responding in a similar way like a smartphone.

As per the latest presentation by a Facebook employee known as Carlos Diuk, they have surely noticed a few prominent habits and things about you. “It may be true that Facebook offers one of the largest samples of social and behavioral data ever compiled, but all of its studies…only describe things that happen on Facebook. The data is structured by Facebook, entered in a status update field created by Facebook, produced by users of Facebook, analyzed by Facebook researchers, with outputs that will affect Facebook’s future News Feed filters, all to build the business of Facebook. As research, it is an over-

determined and completely constructed object of study, and its outputs are not generalizable. Ultimately, Facebook has only learned something about Facebook. Facebook’s research doesn’t have to go through peer review. Facebook isn’t accountable to ethical review boards. The results don’t have to be reproducible or generalizable. They don’t have to lay out their methods, or their data, for scrutiny (and, in fact, they won’t do that, even in anonymized form). All they have to do is make a few Excel plots, publish a blog post, and voila — the Internet “knows”

its six-month relationship is going to forever.”

is that science? i don’t think so.

Pete Warden who is a Data scientist said while commenting on Facebook’s number-crunching on his blog:

“If a sociologist tells you that people in Utah only have friends in Utah, you can follow a web of references and peer review to understand if she’s believable. If I, or somebody at a large tech company, tell you the same, there’s no way

to check. The source data is proprietary, and in a lot of cases may not even exist anymore in the same exact form as databases turn over, and users delete or update their information.”

So without further ado, let me tell you a few things Facebook thinks it knows about you:

According to Facebook, the relationships that have survived 3 months are likely to go further four years or longer. Also, the ones starting in the winter season have a better chance of lasting than ones starting in the rest of the seasons. Facebook also reveals that the period from May to July is the most popular time for breakups. Relationships that survive past two years are less likely to split up as compared with a six month old one.

1. The first year is crucial for determining whether a relationship will last or not.

2. People post status and pictures in the months before a relationship, but once it gets "official," they get quieter.

3. But when a relationship does start, people start posting more happy things almost immediately.

4. People interact more with friends after their breakup.

5. People don’t mind dating people of different religions, but end up marrying with a member of their own caste and creed.

6. The average age gap between men and women is 2.5 years.

In a group of people who had been "in a relationship" for at least four weeks and gone to being "single", analysts found that the level of interactions (message sent and received, timeline comments) increased on the day they changed their status, compared with average volumes. In the meantime, I don’t think you should count on your six-month-old relationship. It seems a little rocky to me.

he main issue with smart-watch-es today is that

they feature small screens. While you scroll or swipe through a no-tification, it gets really frustrating when the finger covers half of the things you’re trying to see. This is the sole reason why you can’t type a text effectively, forget about playing games. However, some efficient gadget designers at Carnegie Mellon’s Human Computer Interaction Group have now found a way which will help you make your own arm a part of the user interface. Over a couple of years, they’ve rolled out some uber cool and novel ways of imagination beyond the edges of a regular smartwatch screen. This means, when the bezel is twisted or tilted, people can control the smartwatch just like a joystick. When you do this, the wearer’s forearm features a Skin Button projected buttons. Now, a brand new project has explored how your forearm can function as a touchscreen for smarwatches or any wearables. This new project is termed as the SkinTrack!

If you watch the project video, a finger pokes and swipes at skin just like it works on a

MAKE YoUr ArM

touchscreen. While the finger navigates on the forearm, the cursor reacts to the movement on the screen of the smartwatch. There are few other projects which also explore similar inter-actions where they use a camera for tracking finger’s motion. According to Gierad Laput who has co-written the paper describ-ing SkinTrack, “Those systems track continuously, but then, you have a Kinect on your shoulder.” However, the method used by Carnegie Mellon is different because instead of a camera, the researchers have currently devel-oped a ring that will be sending a high-frequency alternating-cur-rent signal into your finger. When the finger touches the arm, that signal propagates outward along with your skin to a wristband which is electrodes embedded. This technology compares times at which the oscillating signal arrives at two pairs of electrodes. It measures the phase difference and hence SkinTrack can easily determine the finger’s position with absolute accuracy. As per Laput, the SkinTrack is a natural extension of his previous research where it explores using the areas beyond the touch-screen for improving the user’s experience. The body is just another sensing platform or an input. Laput says, “Looking at the bigger picture, you can make your arm into an actual sensor. If you imbue your arm with computation, you’re

basically augmenting the human experience.”

This particular vision of Laput mainly revolves around two basic ideas. Firstly, the arm has to be used as an input device, and secondly, the body can be used for augmenting other activi-ties. CMU’s Em Sense Project illustrates this idea in the best way. In Em Sense Project, it uses the body’s natural conductivity for sensing what a hand touches. This further allows your devices for surfacing context-specific applications without the need of pulling anything up. If you ask me straight, this is not yet completely ready for consumers. But, currently, SkinTrack has to be calibrated for each user and this is because the electricity passes through each body in a different manner. According to Laput, this system will be working better after the projection can provide visual feedback and it will definitely take some time to implement this. The researchers are also working on making the Pacemakers better by checking how the electrical signals can impact things.

This makes me see the future viv-idly, where I can actually imagine the human body as an interface. To imagine opening Spotify by stroking the arm, sounds really weird today, but you never know what future has in store for you!

For me, 2017 was defined by friendships of all kinds. I graduated high school in 2017 and started college so it was a mixture of saying goodbye to old groups and keeping in touch with them while they’re far away and making new friends at the same time and starting all over again. While this is what my life on a personal level looked like, sadly, it’s hard to talk about 2017 without talking about politics and the Trump administration. Although there was a lot of frustration and disappointment with the state of U.S politics, the pushback that this administration and the Republican party have received by the public and within the Government has me hopeful that this year can be a wake up call for Americans and lead to serious change.

sanjay shah, BRiSBANE

The year of 2017 was an eventful year for me for many reasons. On the political front, Trump became a Cartoon Character just like the Prince of India Rahul Gandhi, but at the same time, we have leaders like PM Modi of India who are putting their best efforts into bringing a nation of diversities on a world platform with some tough decisions. On the technology front, communication is becoming cheaper and affordable. In India, Reliance Industries came up with Jio - the most affordable handphone with smart features and data with great speed which is giving other providers something to think about. In PNG too, service providers are starting to offer VOIP services and affordable internet, but still it has a long way to go. In the wake of Multiple Terrorist attacks all around the world at the Manchester Ariana Grande concert, Syria Mosque, we pray for peace and a safe New year all around the world.

paunas joshi, MuMBAi

2017 for me was marked by a significant rise in the instances of Social Media outrages and a growing sense of intolerance in general. Be it unwarranted negative attention on Gurmeher Kaur or the opposition to the release of Padmavati. We as a society came across as cynical, aggressive and regressive. The ease of giving opinion over social platforms has made everyone an intellectual and degraded the level of dialogue and discussion that should be done. While we talk of our great future capabilities and our glorious past, this is surely not the way to do justice to either. We as a society are on the verge of becoming one of the most influential ones in the world. Let us think big and not give way to negativity and hatred towards someone/anyone who does not conform to our views.

From earthquakes to hurricanes, flooding to droughts, this year has seen numer-ous deadly natural disasters. Not far from where I live, Northern California endured one of the most devastating wildfires in the history of United States. With so many calamities amidst our time in 2017, it raises the pertinent question of what will be the fate of our planet? As technology and human progress makes its way around the world many species and habitats are facing endangerment and possibly extinction. These events put into perspective the importance of our lifestyles and the choices we make which impact the world and the environment at large. This wildfire has been a defining moment for me in 2017 as it foreshad-ows the gnarly future of our planet that will result from egocentric human activities. Hence, it is poignant that in an attempt to strive for advancement in our daily lifestyles, we must respect and pro-tect the gifts of nature which truly provide the basis of all life on earth.

03

Social media is notorious for its flaws, but various events in 2017 proved its strength in connecting people in need to those with appropriate resources. For example, Puerto Rico was hit with two devastating hurricanes in September which resulted in one of the largest blackouts in US history. During this time, lots of people tweeted Elon musk, the CEO of Tesla, asking for help. Within weeks of this request, Tesla flew in Powerpack batteries and solar panels and was able to successfully restore power at a major hospital in San Juan. Through social media, it is easier now than ever for the general public to correspond with influential people and make their voices be heard. This opportunity for direct communication is an incredible shift in the way social media is being utilized. If used correctly, its positive factors could easily outweigh the negatives. The growing beneficial prowess of Social Media was thus a standout point of 2017 for me.

However, these advisors are often known to provide contradicting advices. ‘Go after the big number!’ ‘Start with small number!’ ‘Go B2C!’ ‘Go B2B!’ The advisors will suggest you a point of view that is based on their professional experiences. Now, your mentors’ expertise may limit their perspective into particularly your market and customer base. It is important to understand that while your advisor’s feedback is very important and valuable, you ultimately even need to make significant, chief decisions all by yourself.

It is universal for a founder or a person who prides on his/her manufactured product to catch up to have the factual outlook about his/her respective business. It is understandable that you get too close to your product, and this can be confounding. You need to keep in mind that no one is looking at your work using a microscope. So, remember this when you’re debating on the design and the shade of what works best for your logo. Yes, details do matter, but only to a certain extent. However, at other times, you need to let go and move on to the next ordeal.

5. StrikE that BalanCE

- Jamyn eDisFOUNDER AND CEO OF DASH LAB

With your start-up institution, you must give before you get. Carry an in-depth research on your ideas. Don’t forget to consider your instincts. Don’t hesitate to seek any kind of guidance, but know the advice often conflicts, so you need your own conviction. Think effusively about the product, then slash it to basics again. Be proud of your accomplishment even when you know there will never be any perfection. Keep in mind your competitors, yet don’t worry too much about it. It is important to be direct with your team. But don’t forget to be kind and empathetic either. Sometimes, the world wouldn’t need your product, so understand when to let go. Good fortune and flexibility are as important as designs and capacity. Don’t take yourself very seriously, even when you’re trying to change the world. And most importantly, don’t forget about the important stuff: love, family, and friends.

Think the whole start-up arena as a school. You’ve kindergarten, primary section, secondary section, high school, and the staff and teachers. Whenever you enter such an institution, be it as a founder or an employee, you’re a novice. What you do is grow your relationships with mentors and more senior, experienced people. You also nurture relationships with your subordinates. You mingle by with them by asking the ‘inane’ questions, and the things that seem silly and small; then soon, you’ll become the sophomore and start pulling the newbies along with you on the ladder.

‘Show, don’t say’ is an active adage, and it is exceptional too. It is massive, as well as important, for start-up founders to have an evidentiary assessment proposal every now and then. So many social climbers chat about being the Facebook Killer, snootily and impulsively stating how they have positioned themselves among this mega success. Instead of all this, talking about what your firm does and has achieved sets the base for your visualisation in a way that is believable, authentic, and much less snobbish. It is important to be a producer of value. This way you can acme the existing and adaptable proof of what you are precisely capable of doing, against what you aim to become.

Pay no attention to the hype that you see about other startups in the newspapers. All this mostly consists of lies. Plus half of them will depart in less than a year's time. Channel your focus on building your business so that your company can be the one left standing in the long run.

This is one of the best advice you’d receive— don’t ever give yourself too much credit when everything is good. Consequently, don’t beat yourself when things go wrong either. After you realize that luck plays a major role in accomplishments, you will become modest as well as self-confident, all together.

eijing is one of the most polluted cities in the world. Beijing city’s smog

levels have started to fall down to their lowest levels in recent years as officials struggle to shut down factories and curb car use.

The Chinese government has a huge task of reversing the pollution caused after half a century of heavily-industrialized economic development, which has done its bit in spoiling the air, soil, and water and soil in the country.

Keeping China’s unending smog in mind, the Dutch architect Daan Roosegaarde has invented a pioneering solution, which may aid cities like Beijing to clean up the toxic air. Roosegaarde and his team have invented The Smog Free Tower, which is designed to be the 'world’s largest purifier.'

hoW iT Works? This 7-metre system will use attic filters to charge and

eradicate smog particles by gusting fresh air out of the tower's adjacent vents. Such a technique will create a high-pressure zone in the form of 'bubbles' of air. And this air will be 75% cleaner than the remaining city.

This technology is close to what hospitals use. It takes few hours to clean (air) in a small space; leave it on for couple days, and it will clean a small neighborhood.

The investors further plan to take the tower on a tour of smog-ridden cities around the globe: New Delhi, Paris, Los Angeles, Beijing, and Mexico City. Since the tower is made of solid, durable steel, it can be shipped and set up within days.

Various studies state that poor air quality may ultimately be responsible a mammoth 2 million premature deaths a year in China. Air filters are high in demand amongst general health fears. Also, there is a whole diverse market of anti-pollution products, ranging from casual face masks and smog-soaking

EXPLORE 82 I I DEC 17

household plants to massive filtration technologies rapidly. In 2013, China’s biggest online e-commerce site, Taobao, has apparently spent 870 million Yuan (US$140 million) worth of anti-smog goods like face masks and air purifiers. Today, the figure is probable to have risen as consumers are becoming progressively aware of the harm caused by contaminated air.

ParTiciPaTionA lot of small-scale inventions look forward to solving the pollution problem, without much success. Apparently, such technologies don’t appear as adequate, given the magnitude of the obstacle. This tower is no magic as such, however, hopes are high that it will create a space where NGOs, neighbors, clean tech companies, and governments, accompanied, will decide on how to clean up the city, using innovative technology with resourceful thinking.Remarkably, this project has turned out to be even more distinctive than its initial phase. The gathered smog in the tower will be wedged in the form of cubes to make jewelry!

Okay, you may go ahead and call it a “necessity.” However, we can’t ignore the fact that all the space below the notch is used by this connoisseur hardware, which makes sure your FaceID works flawlessly. Nevertheless, it still looks somewhat out of place on the mobile.

Still, the iPhone X sports the AMOLED display. This means that the individual pixels can also be

turned off. The developers were witty in developing methods to hide the display notches between the two layers of those indolent OLED pixels. What you can do is use a wittily-designed wallpaper. Now, to do this, you need to use an app called ‘Notcho’!

With the help of Notcho, you can for sure ignore your brand new iPhone X’s notch. The app offers you a decent selection of carefully-created wallpapers for iPhone X. Not only this, the app will also let you import any of your own snapshots or images.Like that, the app will make the area surrounding notch darker in shade.

But here’s what you need to keep in mind. With this wallpaper trick, you can only “hide” the notch on your lock or home screen. This means that you’ll still see that notch on your device when you are using other apps. The app is basically free of cost. But, it will add a watermark on the wallpapers. This can be removed for a minimal fee of $1.99 uSD (approximately 130 iNR) as a one-time payment.

Nargis Fakhri is entrancing and desirable and that’s common knowledge. But what we didn’t know is just how techy she is; someone who moves about with an

entourage of gadgets under her belt and claims to be in a relationship with her cellphone. The half Czech half Pakistani actress entered the mysterious land of Bollywood with the hope of experiencing her parental cultures up and close and ended up becoming one of the most desired actresses. But that’s not all, folks! Her energy is infectious, passion for life inspiring and sass extremely adorable, and that’s the person we came to learn about as we caught her on and off guard at the cover shoot.

In the middle of smashing it in Bollywood with her sex appeal, being en route Hollywood Stardom, and brief escapades to the USA while wanderlusting through exotic locations on her way, Nargis now manages to maintain a work-life balance that she accepts wasn’t easy to strike initially. That’s what a tired yet bubbly Nargis talked about with us; life and its different facets, and more.

Catch us to speed and tell us about what you’re up to currently? How’s life?narGis fakhri: I’m currently in Mumbai prepping for my new projects. Both are very interesting projects and poles apart. One is a film whose genre I have never explored but have been wanting to for a long time. I’ve been living in between Mumbai and Los Angeles these days. Trying to find that work-life balance.

Let’s start from the beginning and go back to your modelling days. What’s the most memorable experience that comes to your mind?I remember I had always wanted to walk for Bryant Park Fashion Week as a kid. I used to go to the park during the fashion week (NYC) when the tents were up and watch models come in and out. And I’ll never forget the year I did end up walking at Bryant park Fashion Week for a designer and my photo ended up in the newspaper. That, to me, was super memorable. Of course, there are so many more amazing memories from modeling, whether it be the jobs you get or the places you live in and people you meet.

How would you describe your relationship with Bollywood?

The

nArGIS FAkhrI brings the curtain down on life when mIA, Bollywood and her tech inclinations in a candid

conversation with utsavi Jha.

Entering into Bollywood definitely changed my life in many ways. Both positive and negative, but without the two how would we grow? I’ve learned a lot of life lessons and had the opportunity to get to know a piece of my father which is a piece of me. My experience in Bollywood has been a tumultuous one. I have both enjoyed and been miserable on this journey. I definitely learned that “All that Glitters is not Gold.”

How do you juggle Bollywood and other aspects of your life?Six years I did not understand how to balance my life. This was one of the main reasons I decided to take a break from Bollywood. I had to go back home to reevaluate many things in my life. I realized relationships are what make us who we are. Our family and friends are so important to our happiness. So now that I have returned to Bollywood, I’m just going to make sure I balance work and what makes me happy. I think learning to say No, and taking time to listen to your own needs instead of being pressured by others is key. So is not to have a fear that you will be forgotten or have no work if you decide to take a break. Every human deserves a break, time for themselves. In this business they keep us so busy we forget ourselves.

CLUSIVEWhat’s life like for you in New York? New York City is my home and where my family lives. But I have spent the last year in Los Angeles. I really love the quality of life there. If you haven’t been, you must try to make it out there. I go hiking and biking and to the beach. There are so many things to do out there it’s amazing. And the weather is always perfect. The only thing I’m a little nervous about are the earthquakes. But I guess with all the positives, you don’t really think about the one negative.

What’s the definition of beauty for you? And how comfortable are you with the glamorous image you hold in people’s mind?I really feel it’s a person’s personality that makes them beautiful. I’m very comfortable with the glamorous image although I’m just a super laid back person.

Nargis Fakhri has many facets. So now starting with the most recent path you’re setting out on- your music career. Tell us more about it. AHHHH yes my music career. Well, music is an important part of my life as well as all humans. I had a great opportunity to work with Parichey on his Haabitan and recently I collaborated with Snoop Dog, Dr Zues and Zora for a single. I’m super excited for that. I am thinking about doing something on my own, but let’s see. Also, I’ve been playing around with Djing and that’s also been fun!

You’re have travelled to many exotic locations. Which are some of your favourite places that still stand out for you? I have travelled so much and sometimes I forget where I have been or I mix up stories from different countries. This year I went to Bogota, Colombia which was stunning! I love Colombian people, their food and music so I had a great time. I also went to Bali and stayed at the Mulia which was nice. But I truly, truly enjoyed every minute of SONEVA Kiri Resort in KOH Kood, Thailand. But my most favourite place is still New Zealand. I haven’t explored much of South America yet so let’s see if another country can beat out NZ.

Additionally, you also dedicate a lot of time to philanthropic activities, right?Yes. there are a few organizations I have helped by bringing awareness to their campaigns and what they do. I feel really blessed that I have the platform to do so. Two things I always knew I wanted to do since a child- 1-Travel and 2-Help people in any way I can. Sometimes we know we want to help or give back but we are not able to focus or understand how to do it. Some people donate monies, some donate time and service and others their hearts. No matter what, we all can do something.

What makes you so fit? Any secret fitness mantra? I like pilates and hiking. I think it mostly depends on the food you eat and water you drink plus how much sleep you get. My secret fitness mantra

is water and minimum 9 hours of sleep. I can do 12 hours sometimes.

You’re also a foodie so let us ask you- what’s the weirdest thing you’ve eaten?Weirdest things I’ve eaten are frogs legs, alligator and snails.

Describe one quintessential day in your life.Usually it’s pretty boring and I guess it depends on what country I’m in at the time. If I’m in LA, I wake up around 6 am, make coffee and meditate. Then I’ll read a bit, go hiking or biking and cook breakfast at home. Followed by maybe having meetings or meeting friends. Then lunch with friends; just regular stuff, nothing exciting, go out for dinner or go see a movie. Sometimes I just like to stay home and cook or bake or clean. In Mumbai, it’s all about work and pilates.

What do you like to do in your downtime?I like to travel and explore new places. I have a long list of places I still need to visit.

Which book are you currently reading?I just finished reading a book called Attached- the new science of adult attachment. It was extremely interesting and eye-opening.

What would Nargis be excelling at in a parallel universe?I would be a Tropical & Infectious Diseases Doctor.

How would you like to describe your personality?Quirky, funny and sexy.

What’s that one thing we don’t know about you?I can get over things pretty quickly. I can get mad for only a few minutes and then I’m joking around again.

If things were to go your way in the next 10 years, what would your life look like?Married with a kid, have 2 dogs, a cat and a parrot. Living somewhere quiet in the hills but close to water. Maybe running my own B&B and enjoying gardening and painting.

GOT A bRATTY kID AT hOmE?Worry not, Amazon will replace this tablet

if your kid breaks itids will always remain kids. They break and tear and ruin all kinds of things.

That’s what they are meant to do. When children aren’t on a heist of breaking stuff, they’re either busy coloring them, getting them sticky, or feeding them to the dog.

The popular Fire tablets from Amazon have been updated this year, so they’re thinner, lighter, and have a longer battery life. This same sort of package is inclusive of their

Kids Edition tablet, which is a game-changer for parents. The Kids Edition of this same tablet is not supposed to be mistaken as toy. This tablet is a fully functional Fire tablet that offers a durable “kid-proof” case as well.

The Fire Kids Edition will offer you a free year of their subscription service. Moreover, the gadget also offers a lot of child-friendly material. FreeTime unlimited allows parents to set all sorts of time limits, including bedtimes. The Learn First feature is also capable of blocking access to videos and games until academic prerequisites are made.

The best part about this deal, though, is its Amazon two-year

worry-free guarantee. If, by any chance, your tablet breaks within two years, Amazon will replace it without asking any questions asked. It is important to return the broken tablet, though, because if you lose it, you won’t get anything replaced.

This is how it works: Amazon only wants you to use its products so that you’ll buy more stuff using them. This is their little secret behind their business model. So this might look like a move to allure you to keep paying for all sorts of subscription services and apps. However, this is also a way to allow your tech-savvy kids to discover technology without you worrying that they’ll break your precious gadgets.
