In a letter to the Ridge Times, Mr Bheki Kubheka, acting head of Market- ing and Communications at the mu- nicipality, said they can confirm that a proposal was received from Mr De Ru to revamp the resort and he requested permission to access the dam for assess- ment of work to be done and the cost. “Out of his own initiative, he decided to clean up the area and began with minor repairs which was brought to our attention. “He was stopped because he did not have permission to do so.” Mr De Ru told the Ridge Times on Wednesday, 2 December that he had already spent more than R60 000 on the cleaning of the dam hall and surround- ing area, on renovating the putt putt course, the changing rooms, as well as the swimming pool and the super tube. He had many plans for the resort and said the contract with the munici- pality should have been signed two weeks ago. “I do not need to spend my money in Bethal and if the contract is not signed by 16 December, I will rather spend it else- where,” he said. According to Mr De Ru, everything is in place for the project to go ahead, but somehow the process seems to have been stalled. “I am dedicated to see this through, but I am not going to spend more money if the contract is not signed by 16 De- cember.” In a previous interview, Mr De Ru said he has a five-year contract with the municipality to rent the resort. He also said the renovated resort will open in the last week in November, which did not realise. Mr De Ru’s plan was to make the Bethal Dam Resort a family place that is open to all races, with a putt putt course, a swimming pool, a super tube, paddle boats on the dam, jumping castles, swings, a volley ball court, an internet shop, a coffee shop, a take-away restau- rant, pool tables, a game arcade, and more. He promised security guards and life guards will be on hand and said the cost just to renovate the resort, will amount to R500 000. According to Mr Kubheka, the munici- pality is a government institution bound by legislation and processes which must be followed at all times, no matter how lucrative the proposal is. “The competitive processes must al- ways be followed to avoid being accused of being biased towards other service providers and this is the process that will be followed with the revamping of Bethal Dam.” The Ridge Times phoned Mr De Ru on Friday morning and according to him, he was in a meeting and asked that we phone him back in half an hour. BETHAL - The Govan Mbeki Municipal-ity has confi rmed on Friday, 4 December that no agreement consists between the municipality and Mr Etienne de Ru re-garding the upgrading and renovation of the Bethal Dam Resort.

In a letter to the Ridge Times, Mr Bheki Kubheka, acting head of Market-ing and Communications at the mu-nicipality, said they can confi rm that a proposal was received from Mr De Ru to revamp the resort and he requested permission to access the dam for assess-ment of work to be done and the cost.

“Out of his own initiative, he decided to clean up the area and began with minor repairs which was brought to our attention.

“He was stopped because he did not have permission to do so.”

Mr De Ru told the Ridge Times on Wednesday, 2 December that he had already spent more than R60 000 on the cleaning of the dam hall and surround-

ing area, on renovating the putt putt course, the changing rooms, as well as the swimming pool and the super tube.

He had many plans for the resort and said the contract with the munici-pality should have been signed two weeks ago.

“I do not need to spend my money in Bethal and if the contract is not signed by 16 December, I will rather spend it else-where,” he said.

According to Mr De Ru, everything is in place for the project to go ahead, but somehow the process seems to have been stalled.

“I am dedicated to see this through, but I am not going to spend more money if the contract is not signed by 16 De-

cember.”In a previous interview,

Mr De Ru said he has a fi ve-year contract with the municipality to rent the resort.

He also said the renovated resort will open in the last week in November, which did not realise.

Mr De Ru’s plan was to make the Bethal Dam Resort a family place that is open to all races, with a putt putt course, a swimming pool, a super tube, paddle boats on

the dam, jumping castles, swings, a volley ball court, an internet shop, a coffee shop, a take-away restau-rant, pool tables, a game arcade, and more.

He promised security guards and life guards will be on hand and said the cost

just to renovate the resort, will amount to R500 000.

According to Mr Kubheka, the munici-pality is a government institution bound by legislation and processes which must be followed at all times, no matter how lucrative the proposal is.

“The competitive processes must al-ways be followed to avoid being accused of being biased towards other service providers and this is the process that will be followed with the revamping of Bethal Dam.”

The Ridge Times phoned Mr De Ru on Friday morning and according to him, he was in a meeting and asked that we phone him back in half an hour.

We phoned him back, but he did not answer his phone.

He replied by SMS that he was in a meeting at the mine and would phone back when he was fi nished.

At the time of going to press, Mr De Ru has not returned the call.

Not enough care for the elderlyeMBALENHLE - The festive season should be a time of cheerfulness, feasting and celebration.

This is however not the case for every-one.

The elderly of eMbalenhle’s pleas for adequate housing seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

These are the sentiments of Mr Sibu-siso Hlolweni, a human rights activist and an elderly person.

Speaking to the Ridge Times, Mr Hlolweni said these elderly people have nothing to be delighted about, given that they still fi nd themselves in the same situation as in the past.

“It is clear that some people in our gov-ernment have the kind of disease that kills any consciousness in their souls.

“No one can explain the motive behind the deliberate delay in giving the weak-est beings of the human population land to erect their structures if the govern-ment fails to give them houses.

“Instead, open land is given left and right to people who have both the money and the strength to live without the government’s aid.

“Our beloved government has insulted the rights of our people and my activism walk of 300km from Secunda to Nel-spruit was to try and make them aware of the importance of the elderly.”

He said things turned from bad to worse when Ms Nomsa Mtsweni, MEC of Social Development, promised the elder-ly that their houses are in the pipeline.

He said instead of giving them land, the elderly were forced to do what they have done about a decade ago, and that was to register for a housing subsidy.

“This means they might wait for an-

other decade.“The worst part is that one of the

elderly persons alleged that one of the offi cials made her pay R400 to register.

“I wish the government offi cials and their politicians a happy festive season though.

“Although our elders are drowning

in sorrow and are wondering what the future holds for them without a place called home.

“While you wine and dine, think of the 86-year-old Gogo Elinah Mahlangu, 70-year-old Gogo Makhubo and 85-year-old disabled Gogo Molefe, to name but a few. “Remember them while you move

from one hotel to another, using tax pay-ers’ money.

“During next year’s elections, please do not forget to come and give them food parcels while you urge them to put a cross next to your name on the ballot.”

Govan Mbeki Municipality did not comment at time of going to press.

Bethal residents complained about the inef ciency and long queues at the Bethal Traf c Department of ce last week.

BETHAL - Local residents were upset with the license offi ce at the Bethal Traf-fi c Department last week.

Not only were the queues extremely long, but most of the people were there for a third or fourth day just to get a new license disc for their vehicles.

Ms Era Uys said it was her fourth day in the queue.

“Every time I get turned away for some or other reason and on one occa-sion, I was told they did not have any forms and that I had to come back the next day while they were off line on another day.”

For Ms Alet Koen had to return for the third day to register a vehicle.

Mr David Mabuza said it was his sec-ond day and all he wanted was a license disc. Mr Happy Maluleka was there every day since the Monday and was told they were offl ine.

Apparently there was only one per-son at the counter to cater for the long queues last Wednesday.

From 12pm there were two people and later three people were manning the counters.

Mr Bheki Kubheka, head of Market-ing and Communications of the Govan

Mbeki Municipality, said that the Bethal Registration and Licence Offi ce always has forms for licence registration availa-ble at all times, however between 20 and 27 November they experienced systems off-line that was reported to the eNatis Helpdesk that is based in Nelspruit.

“eNatis is a national system that is

managed and maintained by provincial government.

“According to our information, there was no instance whereby people were sent away by our personnel.

“We are very much aware of the long queues which is due to the infl ux caused by the festive season and the fact that

schools are closed and most people are visiting the offi ce for their car registra-tions, driver’s licence applications and renewal of licences, however the munici-pality is looking into the matter.

“We will further look into the behav-iour of our personnel and the security personnel as alleged,” said Mr Kubheka.

People queue for days on end

No confi dence in Secunda Police

Ms Dudu Thwala (senior manager of Police and Research: Mpuma-langa Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison).

SECUNDA - Residents rated Secunda Police Station’s ser-vice as poor during a survey conducted by the Mpumalan-ga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison on Thursday, 3 December.

They told the department’s offi cials that the police usu-ally take hours to respond to crime scenes and that most police offi cers working in the charge offi ce are rude and do not practice the batho pele principle.

Residents said the 10111 number is not working and is seriously affecting the perfor-mance of the station.

“It takes a while to get hold of the police and when you do, there is a language barrier because most of them are English speaking. They also usually say they have no vehicles available.

“How can that be true, be-cause we often see police ve-hicles going to eMbalenhle or picking up their children from school? The state’s resources are not used properly. This most stop, the police must perform their duties,” said a resident.

Residents wanted to know what had happened to the motorbike squad, because it used to assist in reducing crime in the area.

They also said police offi c-ers do not brief them about the progress of their cases, except for the one SMS they receive after they had opened a case. Residents said sub-stance abuse and poverty are the biggest causes of crime in the area. They urged the department to recommend to the Minister of Police that he intervenes in priority crimes, such as drugs, housebreaking and common robbery.

“The drug dealers are not hiding their activities any

more and even do their deals in public parking areas.

“They are operating freely, especially in the green strips.

“The people who claim to be looking for jobs, also do crime and pickpocket people in the green strips. The police must enhance visibility and patrols,” said a resident.

Residents said there are no sign boards directing people to the police station.

They also demand that the station limit the number of homeless people who sleep at the charge offi ce.

Ms Dudu Thwala, sen-ior manager of Police and Research of the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, told residents she does not have the answers, but will refer the grievances to the authorities.

She said the responsibility of the department is to collect information about police sta-tions’ service in the province and to forward their fi ndings and recommendations to the Minister of Police.

“This survey is aimed at fi nding out what problems residents, the Community Policing Forums, private se-curity agencies and other organisations experience.

“The government’s goal is to identify the gaps and to bridge them. We want to create a conducive environ-ment in the South African Police Service, to create safer communities and to ensure that resources are allocated properly.”

Lt Bettinah Zondo, police spokesman, said they have not yet received any com-plaints about these matters and urged residents who are not happy with service, to go to the station and to speak with management.

eMZINONI - Electricity poles that are on the verge of falling down, are threat-ening the safety of the residents of Extension 6.

Some of these poles have already fallen onto houses of residents.

People said their attempts to get these poles fi xed by the Govan Mbeki Munici-pality, are in vain.

They reported the problem to their ward councillor, Ms Betty Ndaba, as well as the regional offi ce, but were told the poles do not pose any danger.

“How can they say this?“It proves that they do not care about

the safety of the residents,” said a resi-dent.

Some say they often see sparks coming from these poles and they fear children

play near the poles, might get electro-cuted.

Mr Bheki Kubheka, acting head of Marketing and Communication, said the municipality is aware of the falling poles in this area.

He said a team of technicians have inspected the affected area and procure-ment of new poles has been processed.

“The municipality takes the safety of the community serious and distances itself from one individual who has said the falling poles are not a safety concern.

“The municipality will not compro-mise the safety of the community as it is the role of the municipality to render services to the public.

“This matter is receiving the attention that it deserves.”

’n Waterpyp in Lührmannstraat is in Augustus herstel.

Dié probleem is weer by die Govan

Weens dié probleem, was drie dag-sorgsentrums en ’n haarsalon twee dae sonder water.

“Nadat die sypaadjie opgegrawe is, is alles net so gelos.

Vars water stroom in strate af

Kersfees agter traliesBETHAL - Past.

Volgens hulle is dié vroue so geseënd

Sukkelaar VLU-tak se sekretaris, me.

Vir meer inligting, skakel me. Koch by 082 462 5422 of me. Marlene van Wyn-gaard by 083 289 4778.

Me. Elaine Koch (sekretaris: Sukkelaar VLU-tak) saam met past. Mariaan Beukes.

Ms Ndou encourages the youtheMBAHLENHLE - Hundreds of youths and residents expressed their discontentment with Sasol’s internships, learnerships and recruitment strategies during the Sasol Road Show that was held at the eMbalenhle Sasol Club on Friday, 4 December.

They said the company does not priorities locals and it is a shame that thousands of people are unemployed while residing next to the biggest company in the world.

They said as much as they appreciate the company’s contri-bution in the area, they do not directly reap the benefi t, and said Sasol priorities the youths still at school and forgets about the youths who have fi nished school.

“We are always told that we have to have maths and science as subjects, but not all of us stud-ied maths.

“We do not get employment at Sasol.

“This is why the crime is high and substance abuse in the area has excalated. It is because the youth are frustrated and hungry,” said Mr Themba Mahlangu.

The roadshow was aimed at providing feedback to the com-munity of Govan Mbeki Munici-pality on the following matters: social and labour plan local economic development projects, community social responsibility (CSR) and Ikusasa projects. Sasol also shared information about Sasol bursaries and learnerships, including the requirements and application process, Oswizweni projects such as Project A and the tutorial lessons offered, and Sasol Mining recruitment processes.

Ms Mashudu Ndou, senior manager: CSR and Ikusasa, said Sasol prides itself on its contribu-tion to the Govan Mbeki Munici-

Donate blood to save livesSECUNDA - The Secunda Mall Festive Season Blood Drive takes place on 11 De-cember from 9am to 7pm.

“We are fast approaching the festive season, a time when relaxation, gifts and family are on the minds of many,” said the South Afri-can National Blood Service (SANBS).

“However, it is also a time when for many, the demands of the day-to-day life still continue, like in the case of doctors who work hard to

save lives and in most cases can only do so with the help of blood and blood products.”

Traditionally December is a diffi cult time for the SANBS, as they are unable to collect the 3 000 units of blood a day that is needed to treat patients such as those who are terminally ill, let alone any trauma incidents. Secunda Mall is reaching out to the community and is helping the SANBS to con-duct a special festive season blood drive at the mall.

Vote for Little Paws Big HeartsDuring one of the Little Paws Big Hearts outreaches, dogs and cats were washed and dipped.

SECUNDA - Little Paws Big Hearts is a non profi table organisation that targets rural areas to train animal owners and vaccinate and feed cats and dogs.

They are going to explore new infor-mal settlements where they will help all animals in need in the next two months.

They therefore need donations for vac-cinations and food.

Little Paws Big Hearts celebrated its second birthday on 2 November.

“Without our members, sponsors and volunteers the last two years would not have been possible. “Come rain, sun-shine and dust storms, we are in the camps every second Saturday attending

to the needs of animals and still our fi rst priority is sterilisations and education,” said one of the passionate representa-tives of Little Paws Big Hearts.

Between 1 and 31 December, Montego Pet Nutrition will be donating 20 000 meals to hungry pets throughout South Africa.

Help Little Paws Big Hearts get those meals by simply clicking on their logo.

pality. She said they have not reached

their ultimate potential yet, but are getting there.

“The biggest problem in people not getting a job at Sasol, is that most of them do not meet the requirements.

“Let us encourage our brothers and sisters to study maths and science at school and to further their studies.”

She said 64 matriculants were awarded this year.

“Sasol acknowledges the top matric achievers in the Govan Mbeki Municipality by recognis-ing and rewarding the top Grade 12 achievers.

“The project also focuses on the

maths and science top achievers from Quintile 1-3 schools.

“Pupils receive registration fees prizes, book prizes and many other prizes.

“We also have many projects such as the Sasol Orphan and Vulnerable Children.

Altogether 130 children have benefi ted from the OVC pro-gramme from eMbalenhle and Leslie.

“The Street Clean Up Youth Project created 86 job opportuni-ties and 50 per cent are women.”

The youths urged Sasol to in-volve traditional leaders in every project in the area. They said the Govan Mbeki Municipality over-looks traditional leaders.

Ms Mashudu Ndou (senior manager: CSR and Ikusasa) says Sasol prides itself on its contributions to the community of Govan Mbeki Municipality.

SECUNDA - Ms Lucia Mashaba, found-er of Little Harvard Day Care Centre, invited the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development to the school.

The women from the department edu-cated children of all ages on the role that the department is playing in the lives of children.

Ms Thembisile Msibi explained: “We give children a voice.

“When children are in court, they sometimes do not understand what the court expects from them and we are there to explain that to the children and help them through the process.”

Not only children from Little Harvard were allowed to attend the event, but also others from surrounding schools and day care centres.

Ms Msibi began the proceedings with songs and games.

Everyone, including the teachers and youngest children, participated.

Ms Toni Mahlangu told the children: ”When someone touches you anywhere on your body and you do not feel com-fortable, you must say no.

“Even if your brother, sister, parents or teachers beat you every day for no reason, it is not good.

“You must tell an older person or a person who you can trust.”

Each child received a white ribbon to remind them that there is hope and that there is someone who can help them.

Should you require an information ses-sion, you can contact the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development at 017 634 7621.

An information session to educate children on abuse, was held on Wednesday, 2 December at the Little Harvard Day Care Centre. Here are Ms Thembisile Msibi (Department of Justice), Ms Lucia Mahaba (founder of the centre) and Ms Toni Mahlangu (Department of Justice).

Kruik en De Kock vier nuwe eienaarskapSECUNDA - Me.

Secure your homeSECUNDA - Everyone these days has to secure their homes against criminals.

Designer Blinds at 82 Voortrekker Street says the following about aluminium security gates:

o The most important step is to identify the total risk and start with a basic imple-mentation programme, or in full, this all depends on your fi nancial abilities. Thecon-sultants will assist you with various options. Remember how one eats an elephant, “piece by piece”, we all start somewhere.

Action 1. Identify all pri-mary entry points (i.e. doors)

Action 2. Identify all sec-ondary entry points (win-dows, garage doors, balconies, roofs…)

Action 3. List all current deterrents/alarms or barriers

currently in useAction 4. List all areas you

had experienced recent/past possible entries.

Action 5. Identify the safe zone area, this would normal-ly be your bedrooms.

Action 6. Evaluate the cur-rent safe zone security bar-riers, are they suffi cient, is it necessary to install a barrier in the passage, or the area that lead to the bedrooms. This would be priority 1 to secure. Action 7. Determine the escape routes in the event of a fi re, intruder confron-tation, is this escape route known to everybody, ensure that at least one window has a retractable security door that could be opened

Action 8. Finally look at the living areas, kitchens and…, what would be required to secure entry to this area.

Do not opt for cheap security gates.

Graceland lights up for Christmas

The staff and management of Graceland invite everyone to come and experience the Graceland Garden of Lights. Here are Mr Herman Brits (general manager), Ms Lydia Fourie (front of ce manager), Ms Samantha Ramputh (HR manager) and Mr John Liebenberg (food and beverage manager). At the back are Mr Paul Ensli (IT manager), Mr Clix Salman (sales and marketing manager), Mr Shimane Molefe (gaming manager), Mr Heinrich Britz (Country Club manager), Mr Pieter de Villiers (surveillance manager) and Mr Raveen Ramkissoon (maintenance manager).

One of the lights displays at the Graceland Garden of Lights at the pool side. The lights were lit on Thursday, 3 December.

SECUNDA - It has now become a tradition and Graceland again celebrated their Garden of Lights on 3 December.

A buffet awaited visitors and around the pool area a sweets and toy stall made sure young and old could get their hands on some popcorn.

There was more than enough activities for children and they even enjoyed play-ing in the Garden of Lights.

Mr Clix Salman, market-ing manager of Graceland, explained: “Tonight we join communities around the world who celebrate various festivals that are happening through the symbolic switch-ing on of lights. “The tradi-tion of switching on lights or candles has been part of many countries and religions for hundreds of years.”

He further said that 13 De-cember is the longest night in

Sweden and therefor it com-mands honouring St Lucia on this day with her festoon of candles.

Folk tradition professes that she is the angel spread-ing the light of knowledge on this night.

Maintaining the tradi-tion, the oldest girl in every Swedish family is declared St Lucia on 13 December. The girl dresses up like fairies with white dresses, red rib-bons and crowns of candles on their heads.

“Although these festivals and others around the world in different faiths, religions and cultures require the adorning of different outfi ts with different colours and of-ferings, the main intent is the same,” said Mr Salman.

The Garden of Lights is not only for fun and entertain-ment, but also symbolises that darkness should not be seen as a curse, because by simply lighting a candle, it drives away all the miseries and gloominess in the world.

Mr Salman requested: “I want to invite you this festive season to light a candle in the lives of those around you as you spend time with families or strangers.”

He wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year on behalf of all the staff and management of Graceland.

Visit the pool side at Grace-land to experience the fi fth Garden of Lights. Garden of lights will be open to the pub-lic until 5 January 2016.

For all children staying at the hotel, a special Children’s Holiday programme will take place at the poolside from Monday, 21 December and will include activities such as face painting, treasure hunts, puppet and magic shows, jumping castles and loads more.

Kids visiting the property will have unlimited access to a brand new modular play system on the Blue Bayou patio. Singer Amor Vittone will make a special appear-ance for one night only in the Graceland arena. Tickets are only R100 and are available from the Winners Circle desk.

Mr Clix Salman told visitors more about the tradition of lights during the festive season. The Graceland Garden of lights were lit on Thursday 3 December.

July builds scooter for childreneMZINONI - Mr July Nhlan-hla (46) is an entrepreneur whose passion is to do some-thing for children to keep them off the streets and away from drugs and alcohol.

He built a scooter with the engine of a weed eater.

He not only used a weed eater’s engine, but also used parts of a skateboard to build his scooter.

Mr Nhlanhla worked as an operator at a mine, but was retrenched last year.

He decided to buy a weed eater to do garden work in Bethal.

But work was not readily available and he decided to do something else with the weed eater.

He began to build his scooter two months ago.

According to him, he does not want the scooter to go fast, because he built it for children.

“I bought the gearbox at a pawnshop in Johannesburg when I was still working, and the rest of the parts I bought with the money I received from my retrenchment.”

The scooter cost Mr Nhlan-hla R6 700 in total to build.

“I would like people to spon-sor me so that I can build more of these for the children in my community.”

Mr Nhlanhla is the father of seven children.

He can be contacted at 071 509 2438.

News 25December 11, 2015

SECUNDA - Women entrepreneurs were given the opportunity to tell investors more about their small businesses that they were able to get of the ground during the year.

Women from different backgrounds, cultures and interests who are part of the Small Enter-prise Development Agency (Seda) came together on Wednesday, 2 December at Brunfelsia Estate.

Each entrepreneur was given the opportunity to give a presentation of only 10 minutes during which they had to tell more about their busi-ness, what there dream for the business is and what they will need to accomplish that dream.

The fi nal session that was held on 2 December culminated into a Dragons Den format.

Seda is an agency of the Department of Small Business Development and was established in December 2004 through the National Small Business Amendment Act, Act 29 of 2004.

It is mandated to implement government’s small business strategy, design and imple-ment a standard and common national delivery network for small enterprise development, and integrate government-funded small enterprise support agencies across all tiers of government.

Seda’s mission is to develop, support and pro-mote small enterprises throughout the country, ensuring their growth and sustainability in coordination and partnership with various role players, including global partners who make international best practices available to local entrepreneurs.

Seda and fi nancing agencies from Mpuma-langa and Productivity South Africa have been invited to assess the women entrepreneurs presentation of the business plan canvas which covers all areas of business.

There are nine areas that cover all four principles of business, namely markets, prod-uct/service, organisation and management and

fi nancial planning. Each women had to cover all these areas in

and during their presentation.Feedback and advice were given by fi nancial

institutions as well as managers from Seda.Anyone who would like to join Seda, can con-

tact Ms Vani Moodley at [email protected].

Women entrepreneurs empowered

Attendance the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda’s) women entrepreneurs presentation day are (in front) Mr Solomon Moriti (managing director: JOM Cosmetics) Ms Ntokozo Majola (provincial manager: Seda, Mpumalanga), Ms Florance Bogatsu (branch manager: Seda Gert Sibande) and Ms Vani Moodley (chief executive: Vani Moodley and Associates). At the back are Mr Mashiba Kgole (Seda operations manag-er), Mr Rapule Mahlangu (acquisition banker: Absa Retail and Business Bank), Mr Themba Skhosana (Seda business adviser) and Mr Nimrode Dlamini (Mega regional manager).

Me. Christen Schoonbee (voorsitter) saam met me.

Helpende Hand bedank vrywilligers

Men accept Jesus as their saviourTRICHARDT - Men braved the cold to pray and worship God dur-ing the Warrior for Christ Men’s Conference from 27 to 29 Novem-ber at a farm near Trichardt.

Past Derek Chester Browne of Lighthouse Church in Secunda was the speaker on Saturday morning and talked about his past history as a drug dealer.

During his preaching, he said we have been designed to worship something in our lives and if it is

not Jesus, it might be drugs, wom-en, pornography and many other things. “When Jesus wants you, He leaves you in a mess so that you can realise how much you need Him.

“I used to be violent and was even banned of entering some public areas,” said Past Browne.

He said while he was using drugs, he never paid municipal services and his electricity was cut off.

“When my electricity was cut, I improvised some other means to make sure I have electricity in my house, even if it meant illegal con-nections or asking my neighbours to connect me.”

He encouraged people not to mock President Jacob Zuma, but to pray for him because the Bible said we must pray for our leaders.

Before he ended his teachings, he led a number of men to accept Jesus as their saviour.

Men came out in numbers to worship God during the Warriors for Christ Men’s conference from 27 to 29 November.

He began playing cricket at the age of 11.

“At that time I was in Laerskool H.M. Swart and was selected for multiple Mpumalanga cricket teams,” he said.

He said his coach, Mr Charles Pentz, at Laerskool H.M. Swart and later at Hoërskool Hoogenhout must get all the credit.

“He developed and supported me.”Siyabonga was also the captain of

the fi rst cricket team at Hoërskool Hoogenhout and the Bethal Bears Cricket Club.

Siyabonga credits his cricket coach

According to Mr Neil Parsons, his leadership skills have always shone through.

When asked how he felt about being named the captain of the Mpuma-langa U/19 side, he said it is a huge honour to lead a side with so much talent.

“ I am excited to fullfi l this respon-sibility to the best of my ability, and I would like to thank the Lord for giv-ing me the gift to play cricket.”

AB de Villiers of the Proteas cricket team is his hero and he loves to watch live cricket.

In his spare time, Siyabonga spends time with friends and families.

He has already been selected for two matches for the Mpumalanga Senior Provincial side and has shown that he will become a regular team member.

Siyabonga Mtsweni is excited to be chosen as the captain of the Coke Cricket Team.
