Introduction

This installation note provides the following:

• Preparing the Site on page 2

• NG Cable Management Tray Description on page 3

• Scenario 1: Upgrading to the NG Cable Management Trays on page 5

• Scenario 2: Installing the NG Cable Management Trays in the Default Configuration on page 6

Preparing the Site

To prepare the site for the Next Generation (NG) NG Cable Management Tray install or modification, you must have the following:

• Flathead or phillips screwdriver.

• Flat surface to assemble the NG Cable Management Tray.

NG Cable Management Tray Description

The 7750 SR-12 chassis supports NG Cable Management Trays that organize and manage cables connected to the system. The NG Cable Management Tray for the 7750 SR-12 can be configured to route cables to both sides of the chassis, or to the right side of the chassis only, or to the left side of the chassis only.

The NG Cable Management Trays can be installed onto the 7750 SR-12 chassis in one of three configurations, as follows:

• Route cables to both sides of the chassis, as shown below:

Scenario 1: Upgrading to the NG Cable Management Trays

Upgrading to the NG cable management trays is necessary if the system already contains older cable management trays

Figure 5: Removing the Older Cable Management Trays

To remove the older NG Cable Management Trays:

Step 1 Locate the screws on the upper older Cable Management Tray.

Step 2 Loosen the screws on the upper older Cable Management Tray.

Step 3 Grip the upper older Cable Management Tray and pull away from the chassis.

Step 4 Repeat for the lower Cable Management Tray.

Step 5 Go to Scenario 2: Installing the NG Cable Management Trays in the Default Configuration on page 6 to complete the upgrade process.

Scenario 2: Installing the NG Cable Management Trays in the Default Configuration

The NG Cable Management Tray consists of two cable guides. In the default configuration, left guide routes the cables to the left of the chassis, and the right guide routes the cables to the right of the chassis.

Figure 6: Installing the NG Cable Management Trays

To install the NG Cable Management Trays in the default configuration:

Step 1 Grip a replacement NG Cable Management Tray and slide it into the upper front of the chassis until the screw holes align.

Step 2 If the chassis rack-mounting rail is used in the most forward position, discard the shims, and place the NG Cable Management Tray rail over the outside surface of the rack-mounting rail. If the rack-mounting rail is set back from the chassis front, install the provided shims onto the NG Cable Management Tray as shown.

Scenario 3: Installing the NG Cable Management Trays to Route Cables to the Right

The NG Cable Management Tray consists of two cable guides. In the default configuration, left guide routes the cables to the left of the chassis, and the right guide routes the cables to the right of the chassis. To route the cables all to the right side of the chassis:

Step 1 Installing the NG Cable Management Trays in the Default Configuration

Step 2 Reassembling the NG Cable Management Trays to Route Cables to the Right

INSTALLING THE NG CABLE MANAGEMENT TRAYS IN THE DEFAULT CONFIGURATION

The first step is to install the NG cable management trays in the default configuration. See Scenario 2: Installing the NG Cable Management Trays in the Default Configuration on page 6 for instructions on installing in the default configuration.

REASSEMBLING THE NG CABLE MANAGEMENT TRAYS TO ROUTE CABLES TO THE RIGHT

The next step is to unfasten and swap the left-side trays so that all cables are routed to the right side of the chassis. To reassemble the NG Cable Management Trays to route cables to the right of the chassis, swap the upper and lower right guides, as follows:

Step 1 Locate the fastening screws on the left guide on the upper NG Cable Management Tray. Callouts ‘1’ and ‘2’ in Figure 9 on page 9 shows the location for the fastening screws.

Step 2 Unfasten the fastening screws to detach the left guide from the upper NG Cable Management Tray.

Step 3 Repeat for the left guide on the lower NG Cable Management Tray.

Step 4 Swap the left guide from the upper NG Cable Management Tray with the left guide from the lower NG Cable Management Tray.

Step 5 Fasten the guides to the NG Cable Management Trays.

Scenario 4: Installing the NG Cable Management Trays to Route Cables to the Left

The NG Cable Management Tray consists of two cable guides. In the default configuration, left guide routes the cables to the left of the chassis, and the right guide routes the cables to the right of the chassis. To route the cables all to the left side of the chassis, follow the steps indicated in the previous section, with the exception being to swap the upper and lower right guides.
