The Warrior Soccer Program is very active in the local Walla Walla com-munity and involved in several outreach programs to work with local youth. Current and former Warrior players will be working again this school year to provide mentors for the local Walla Walla Parks and Recreation commu-nity program and also to provide technical coaching for the Blue Mountain Soccer Club. Coach Bodnar also hosts local coaching clinics for youth coaches around the Walla Walla Valley. With a very active scholarship initiative to reach at risk youth, the Warrior camp and academy program attracted over 150 players from ages 5-12 years of age over the 2008-09 school year. Held in co-operation with Three Rivers and the Blue Mountain Soccer Club, the Blue Mountain Exchange attracted better than 100 Premier teams to the region from across the Northwest and Canada. The Exchange has grown into an annual event featuring an NCAA Showcase and lively entertainment throughout the weekend to augment the high level of play on the field. The Warriors come off a school best record in 2008 going 24-1 and will look to match the success in 2009. The 2008 Warriors were Eastern Region Champions for the 6th consecutive season and were NWAACC Finalist for the fifth time in the programs history. The 2008 Warriors sent 3 players to four year schools including two Division-1 and one Divi-sion-3 transfers in Shayna Jones (U. Evansville), Liz homer (Seattle U) and Sid Davin (Whitworth). The 2008 Warriors also added 8 players to the NWAACC East All-Conference team. The 2009 version will look to continue the success and will be very gifted in terms of ability.

Head Coach Chad Bodnar states, “This is a very well rounded group we have brought in and we will look to continue where we left off last year. There are some definite questions to be answered in terms of shape and we will have to battle it out on the training field to see who earns minutes where, but we are very fortunate to have such a talented group at this level. We are very excited to for the year.”

This 2009 version of the Warriors look to reload and are very excited about the incoming class of freshman and a strong returning squad.

Forwards

Another typically outstanding group of forwards will join WWCC in the at-tack in 2009. Tahlia O’Loughlin (Borah HS, Boise ID) led the NWAACC in scoring during her freshman campaign with 24 goals and 7 assists. Fellow forward Katie Lucas (Richland HS, Richland, WA) was second in scoring in the NWAACC during the 2008 season with 23 goals and assists.BothO’Loughlin and Lucas were named to the NWAACC East All-Conference team and both were invited to play in the NWAACC All-Star game where Lucas was the named MVP. Teresa Lopez (Davis HS, Yakima, WA) gave great depth to the 2008 Warrior frontline and will look to do the same as she vies for more minutes during her sophomore season. The Warriors are excited of the possibilities and depth added to the 2009 frontline with a few formidable signings. Dominique Alston(Skyview HS, Boise, ID) is a heralded scorer (2 time 1st Team All-Confer-ence forward) coming out of Skyview High School and will look to add immediate attacking force for the Warriors. Justine Jones (Borah HS, Boise, ID) and Margo Hickman (Mountain View HS, Boise, ID) will look to bring athleticism and pace to the field as they will challenge for time up front. The Warriors did not lose too much in terms of attacking players and have much needed depth up top in 2009. Amanda Keebler (Twin Falls, ID) will also look to provide depth as she adjusts to the college game. Chad Bodnar states, “I expect we will be right back to where we were last year in terms of goals scored. We should be a threat to any backline in our league.”

Midfield

The 2009 Warriors will have a very talented midfield with the addition of some prominent freshman and a transfer to join 2008 NWAACC East All-Conference selection Amanda Brusic (W. Valley HS, Yakima, WA) who had 8 goals and 4 assists during her freshman season. Robbie Jenks, another Boise area product will again look to compliment the Warrior midfield as a sophomore. Adding to Brusic will be a list of All-Confer-ence selections and State Championship quality players. Emma Hawn(Lake City HS, Coeur d’ Alene), a sophomore, will look to compete for minutes in the Warrior midfield as she joins the Warriors after playing a season of basketball for the WWCC Women’s team. Anna Pingree, a transfer from the University of Montana will add immediate impact to the midfield. Pingree was an All Big Sky Honorable Mention as a freshman at U. Montana last year and will bring that Division one experience to the

warrior midfield. Becky Ryerse (Mountain View HS, Boise, ID), Brittney Lacey (Capital HS, Boise, ID), and Jaymie Balcom (Central Valley HS, Spokane, WA), all 1st Team All-Conference selections, will look to compete for minutes, add depth, and add different dynamics to the 2009 Warrior midfield.

The 2008 Warriors saw Jen Finders (Boise HS, Boise ID) and Sidonia Davin (Kamiakin HS) both graduate, with Davin moving onto Whitworth College. Bodnar states “We are very deep in the middle of the park with a lot of options in terms of what we can do with our shape and adjust-ments to what the match may require. I am excited about this group of midfielders because there is a great mix of very technical players, and players with motors that don’t stop. I am very curious to see how things shake out in our starting eleven because any one of these players could be on the field on a given day.”

Defenders

The Warrior back line will be very strong this year once again after leading the league in G.A average in 2008. The 2008 squad returns four of their top five defenders form the 2008 Warrior squad including 24 game starters Dashia Huff (Southridge HS) and Kylee Poznanski(Richland HS). Huff was a NWAACC East All-Conference selection as she anchored the backline with her athleticism and pace. Poznanskilooks to again fill her role in central defense and being a leader for the 2009 Warrior backline. In addition, sophomore contributors Kaitlyn Rosane( Southridge HS) and Nicole Perry (Vallivue HS, Boise, ID) look to add depth and compete for starting roles. Perry was a consistent starter in both the 2008 Warrior backline and midfield and we expect the same consistently from Perry in 2009. Rosane has come into camp fit and ready to make an immediate impact to the backline as she looks to become an everyday starter. Joining the Warrior backline are Lena Miraglio (Clarkston HS, Clarkston, WA) and Megan Wagner (Highland HS, Pocatello, ID). Miraglio has come into camp and opened eyes with her pace and athleticism and she will look to be an everyday contributor in both the backline and midfield during the 2009 campaign.

“We are fortunate enough to returning most of the contributors of the NWAACC’s best backline and are very confident that we will be as good or better then last season with this group. There is going to be some fierce competition for spots which will make all of these ladies better when the time comes to perform. We can do some different things and have the ability to attack out of the back with the pace and physical talent these players possess. This should be a fun group to watch.”

GoalKeepers

The 2009 Goalkeeping have big shoes to fill in losing Liz Homer(Hanford HS), a NWAACC All-Conference selection and now part of the Seattle University women’s program. Analisa Androlowicz (Vallivue HS) will return to the Warriros after backing up Homer last season. Ana adds great leadership and good size as she had a very impressive spring season. Jordan Simkins (Bozeman HS, Bozeman, MT) joins the War-riors where she was a 2 time All-State selection and looks to immediately vie for minutes in 2009. “These are two very gifted athletes who have the ability and we look for a heavy competition to see who will lead the 2009 Warriors between the posts.”

2009 SEASON PREVIEW–MEN

The 2009 Warrior men return 6 players from a 2008 squad that was 18-3-2, Eastern Region Champions for the 4th time, and for the first time in school history were NWAACC Champions. The 2009 edition of the Warrior men will also include 19 new faces that join the squad and will look to make an impact right away for the Warriors. The blend of some experienced returnees and the addition of new faces will leave the 2009 Warrior men with the task of finding their new identity, continuing the success of the program, and defending their title. “We have some very good returners and players who saw a ton of action last year, and we have some guys fresh off their high school season that will have to adjust to the pace of college soccer. We have some work to do to be where we need to be at the end of the season, but we are looking forward to the challenge” (Coach Bodnar)

Forwards

The Warrior frontline will take an whole new look this season with the lossofRocky Snyder (Pasco HS) and Luis Mendoza (Prosser HS), who both were NWAACC All-Conference selections and combined for 34 goals during the Warriors title run. Returning upfront for the Warriors and competing for minutes are Dominic Anzelini (Mose Lake HS) and Levi Gunion (Kennewick HS). Leading the charge for the 2009 campaign will be high school teammates Marco Acevedo (Pasco HS, Pasco, WA) and Paul Herrera (Pasco HS). Acevedo was one of the most honored high school forwards in Washington State during his high school career earning repeat All-Conference and WIAA 1st team All-State accomplishments. The experience that Acevedo and Herrerahave playing together will look to be provided immediately for the 2009 Warrior attack. In addition, the Warriors are excited about Jose Corona(McLoughlin HS) and Jacob Michelsen (Great Falls HS, Great Falls, MT) as they both look to add much needed depth and different dynamics to the Warrior attack. Furthermore, Griffen Hoerner (Post Falls HS) has come into camp and been an exciting player up top and in the midfield and he will be expected to play a significant role in the Warrior frontline. “We have a definite pair of proven goal scorers in Marco and Paul, and will look to the others to add some support in our front line. I am excited about the group we have and looking forward to seeing them hit the back of the net”

Midfield

The 2009 Warrior midfield takes on an entirely different look with the loss of two NWAACC All-Conference selections in Beau Morton (E. Valley HS), Brian Buckingham (Centennial HS) and Chris Reid(W.Valley HS). Morton captained the Warriors and BuckinghamsealedtheNWAACC title with his overtime goal in the NWAACC final. Returning for the Warriors are seasoned veterans Johnny Dolphus (Mountain View HS) and Juan Garcia (Caldwell HS) who will look to bring some experience and leadership the 2009 Warrior midfield. The new additions include heralded high school performer Mikey Ramos (University HS, Spokane, WA) and Talon Wyatt (Pocatello HS). Both will look to add immediate impact to the Warrior lineup. Ramos figures to be one of

the best NWAACC midfielders during his freshman campaign with his leadership and technical ability. Miguel Acevedo (Pasco HS) looks to add immediate impact out-wide for the Warriors with his pace, athleticism, and attacking ability. Erik Marquez (Mountain View HS) and Josh Bashline(Twin Falls) also join the Warrior program. Chad Bodnar states, “We are very excited about the size, athleticism, and overall talent of our 2009 Warrior midfield. There will be a lot of talented guys competing for minutes and our depth will allow us to do a variety of different things with shape and attacking preferences.”

Defenders

The 2009 Men will return only one player in the back but add 8 very good freshmen to a backline that was one of the top in the league last year in goals allowed. The Warrior backline will deal with the loss of NWAACC All-Conference performers Rafael Sanchez (Wahluke HS) and Miguel Nogales (Highland HS) who anchored the defense last year for WWCC along with Captain Jordan Hacker (W. Valley HS). Stephen Fujimoto(Mountain Vie HS, Boise ID) is the lone starter returning to the Warrior backline and he will look to anchor the Warriors from central and outside defense. He will be joined by a very talented group of All-State, All-Conference, and State Championship defenders starting with Brady Espinoza (Pasco HS) and Tyler Lawton (Mountain View HS) who both were 1st team All-State selections and who both will be leaned on to provide instant impact for the Warriors. In addition, Chris Hawkins (Timberline HS), local talent Angel Valverde (Walla Walla HS), Tyler Barry (Centennial HS), and sophomore Jose Rivera (Eisenhower HS) will compete to find minutes in the backline. Chase Farrell (Helena HS), Brent Anitok (Timberline HS), and Cass Melin (Houston HS) will look to adjust to the college game and progress as the season wears on. “We have a young group in the back that is going to have to adjust to college soccer very quickly. They are all very experienced in terms of having played in very high level club games, and have some experience playing together for the same club team. Fujimoto is going to have to anchor this group until the young ones get their feet wet, but I am positive we will be very solid after we get some experience”.

GoalKeepers

The 2009 Goalkeeping will be done by NWAACC All-Conference and NWAACC Final Four MVP Joey Pagan (Eagle HS, Boise ID). Bodnar states, “Joey is the most athletic goalkeeper we have had in our ranks here at WWCC and his freshman year was outstanding. We look forward to him captaining the squad this year and once again being the NWAACC’s best goalkeeper.” Freshman Touchet product Jorge Velazco (Touchet HS) will look to come in and get better with each days training.

are coached by George Hageage. The trio are part of a sophomore class that won two Conference Championships with the Warriors while winning 39 games in their two seasons in Walla Walla.

Renz, a Pasco HS product, is a two time NWAACC All-Conference selection

as a goalkeeper and garnered recognition as an NWAACC Academic All-Conference nominee and President’s List Student. She is also a National Honor Roll nominee. Renz rewrote the Warrior record book in her two seasons with the Warriors as she holds program marks for wins

in a season (22), career (32), shutouts in a season (16), career (24), minutes played in a season (2030) and career (3200), and Goals Against per Game for a season (0.49). Renz played her club soccer for Three Rivers Utd.

Conners came to Walla Walla out of Great Falls HS in Montana. A two year starter and All-Conference selection as a defender, Carrie was a sophomore captain for the Warriors while starting 47 straight games. She compiled 13 goals and 16 assists in her two years as a Warrior. Conners was also recognized as an NWAACC Academic All-Conference selection as well as being a President’s List student and nominated to the National Honor Roll. A two sport athlete for the Warriors, Conners was also named an All-Conference and Academic All-Conference performer for her performance on the diamond and was recently named an Academic All-American by the National Fastpitch Association.

Ikerd is a two time NWAACC All-Conference selection and was the NWAACC Player of the Year in 2004 as a freshman. She led the NWAACC in goal scoring both of her seasons in Walla Walla and holds program marks for goals in a season (45 as a freshman) and career (75) as well as points in a season (89) and career (165). She was also named the All-Conference game MVP in 2004. Ikerd is a product of Boise HS and Boise Capitals SC and represented Idaho ODP for five years prior to coming to Walla Walla. In the classroom, Ikerd is a Biology major who was named to the President’s List and National Honor Roll as a freshman.

Comments from WWCC Head Coach Coach BodnarWe are very excited about sending these three kids to such a quality D-1 program. All three of these players have accomplished things that may never be matched in terms of records on the field. They are equally impressive in the classroom and George is getting three very solid people. Our wish is for them to go in and represent the college well by competing and doing well on the field and in the classroom at Eastern. Replacing all three of these kids will be very difficult as they all bring there own special dynamics to the program. We are glad to be sending them on.Comments from EWU Head Coach George Hageage Chad, and John before him, have done a great job with their players. They are one of the few coaching staffs at the CC level which consistently develop their players so that they are better after two years at Walla Walla than when they first started. I can’t underscore enough how rare that is at their level.Ashley - Perhaps one of the most important additions to our squad, Ashley will be able to come in and use your athleticism and experience to push for a starting spot. Ashley reminds us of Tiera Como in her presence and ability. We are extremely lucky to have Ashley join us for next year and are quite excited to see her in Eagle red!Carrie - Carrie versatility, athleticism and ability to read the game will give us the ability to try some different systems of play next year. I see Carrie as an integral part of next years squad either as a defender or up top. I am excited to have the opportunity to coach Carrie next fall!Shelly - Shelly is a tremendous goal scorer!! She has proven herself at every level. Her quickness and ability to strike shots with either her right or left foot will finally give us a player who is a threat to score at anytime!

DUGGER SIGNS WITH BRONCOSBoise State Head Coach Steve Lucas announced the signing of Warrior midfielder Britteny Dugger to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Broncos. Boise State play in the Western Athletic Conference and finished their 2005 campaign with a 10-8-2 record. Dugger is the third Warrior to suit up for the Broncos following Christy Messenger and Julie Allen.

As a Warrior, Dugger compiled impressive numbers in her sophomore season. She captained a team that went 23W-1L-2T and won their third consecutive conference crown while starting in all 26 matches. She was named an NWAACC All-Conference selection and notched 16 goals to go with 11 assists. In the classroom, she was recognized as an Academic All-Conference selection and was named to

the Dean’s List at Walla Walla CC. Dugger was a transfer from the College of St. Rose, an NCAA D2 institution in New York. Dugger was the Washington State 4A and Big Nine Player of the Year in her junior and senior seasons as Richland High School captured a state title. She played her club soccer for Three Rivers Utd and represented Washington ODP.

Comments from WWCC Head Coach Coach BodnarOur program was very excited to bring in Brit with the hopes of placing her somewhere she would be happy after being in New York her freshman year. She came in and was a vital part of a very special team last year. We are very excited about Brit heading to BSU. She is going to have to work hard in the off season to compete for a role, but definitely has the potential to add a special dimension to Steve’s squad. BSU is a program on the rise and we are very happy to be able to add a great person to their roster.

Comments from BSU Head Coach Steve LucasWe are very excited to have Brittney join our program. She will fit in to our style of play on the field. We expect her to come in and make an immediate impact on our team.

GINKEL HEADS TO MISSIONARIESAlysse Ginkel has committed to play for Whitman College and Head Coach Scott Shields for next season. Ginkel, who scored 15 goals and added 11 assists in her two years in Walla Walla, will move across town to join a Missionary team that went 10W-6L-3T last season and were ranked Regionally most oftheFall.

Ginkel was a part of two Conference champion teams in Walla Walla and won an Idaho State 5A Championship with Boise High School her senior season. A product of Boise Capitals Soccer Club, Ginkel was also a three time Idaho ODP State selection as a youth player.

ASANO BOUND FOR CANADARyosuke Asano, who spent three years in the

Warrior program, has transferred to play for St. Mary’s University in Nova Scotia. Asano, who red-shirted his freshman season, joins a Husky program coached by Stuart Galloway

that has been to the Canadian Championships the past three seasons and been consistently ranked in the top six nationally in Canada.

Comments from Warrior Head Coach John Charman:Ryo will have to adjust to the physical nature of play in Eastern Canada but he’s developed tremendously here the past three years and has really learned to use his technical tools within the context of a collegiate speed of play. He’ll get to play his home contests on an artificial surface and that will be a great advantage to him.

GENTLE JOINS ‘YOTESJared Gentle has signed to play for Head Coach Brian Smith and Albertson College next Fall after compiling a 13W-2L-2T record as a sophomore with the Warriors. Gentle, who was an

All-Conference selection, secured nine shutouts as a sophomore in leading the Warriors to their second straight Conefrence title and to the NWAACC Championship game. Gentle holds

Warrior records for wins in a season (13) and career (22), shutouts in a season (9) and career (13.5), goals against per game in a season (0.76) and minutes played in a season (1530). Gentle will compete with former Warrior Robbie Erichson for time in the ‘Yote goal.

Comments from Warrior Head Coach John Charman:It’s a great opportunity for Jared. He’s developed into a very good college goalkeeper in the last two seasons and I’m confident he and Robbie will battle day in and day out for the starting role at Albertson. They train very well together and have a good relationship so I would think it’s a very good situation for the both of them.

HILGART HEADING TO CALIFORNIAIan Hilgart will be joining Chico State next Fall. The

Wildcats are coached by Mike O’Malley and have been a consistent power on the west coast at the NCAA Division II level for many years. Hilgart tallied five goals and added 10 assists his sophomore season in Walla Walla despite missing most of the first half of the year due to injury. A skillful attacking player, Hilgart will compete for minutes in the Wildcat midfield.

Comments from Warrior Head Coach John Charman:Ian’s sophomore season was disrupted by injury but when he regained fitness halfway through the year, he really demonstrated the tremendous potential he possesses. He’s a quick, technical player with good attacking instincts and a competitive nature that I feel will do very well at Chico State. He can play in many different places and that should eb an asset for him as he tries to work his way into the Wildcat lineup.

MUNOZ AND KEMPE JOIN TRUMAN STATE IN MISSOURIAldo Munoz and Gavin Kempe will be heading to the

Midwest to join Truman State in Missouri. The Bulldogs, coached by Duke Cochran, reached the second round of the NCAA Division II tournament last Fall and are perennially Nationally ranked in the top 20 in the country. Munoz, who was an All-Conference selection as a sophomore, tallied seven goals while adding

a pair of assists this past Fall while holding the midfield and captaining the team. Kempe shares a career record with Munoz for most starts in two years with 49 and has been a fixture in the Warrior back three both seasons in Walla Walla.

Comments from Warrior Head Coach John Charman:It’s an exciting and interesting opportunity for both Aldo and Gavin. Truman State has done very well on the field and is a good academic environment for both of them to complete their college careers. Aldo’s been a great leader here in his two years and brings a calming presence to the field. I’m sure that will translate well for Truman State next Fall. Gavin’s never really stepped out of the starting lineup since he arrived here and is one of the most consistent defenders I’ve worked with. He’s strong in the tackle and very good in the air and I feel has all the tools required to be a good player in the Midwest.

WEBER BECOMES A MISSIONARYMax Weber heads across town to join Whitman College and former Warrior teammates Cole Sherman and Jesus Reyes on the Missionary roster. Weber spent three years in Walla Wala after spending much of his second season recovering from injury. Weber captained the Warriors his sophomore season while holding down a regular spot in the midfield.
