Whetheryou’reclimbingforIKCAorjustcomingalongfortheassistedclimb,weencourageeveryonetoraiseasmuchmoneyastheycan.ThechallengewillnotonlyraisefundsforIKCAbutalsohelpusraiseawarenessoftheplightofcancerpatientsin Pakistan. TheNationalHealthServicedoesnotprovidecancertreatmentinPakistanandasaresultpoorpeoplediewithoutproperdiagnosis/treatment.AtImranKhanCancerAppeal(IKCA),weraisefundsfortheShaukat Khanum MemorialCancerHospital(SKMCH)inLahoreandPeshawar.Atbothweoffercomprehensivecancercarefreeofchargeinhospitalswhichhouseallthespecialiseddiagnosticandtherapeuticfacilitiesunderasingleroof.

Imran Khan’smotherdiedofcancerinFebruary1985.TheordealrevealedajarringrealitytoImran:Pakistanhadadeathofmedicalresourceswhenitcametotreatingcancerandthiswascostinglives.Duringthetimespentwithhismotherincancerwards,Imranalsowitnessedthedistressofotherpatients.Hewasespeciallytroubledbythosewithfewermeans.How,hequestioned,dothepoorcopewithadiseasethatissodebilitatingtopatientsandtheirfamilies?Afterhismotherpassed,ImranKhandecidedthatirrespectiveoftheirbackgroundeveryonedeservedanequalchanceatlife.

In1994,followingfiveyearsoffundraising,Shaukat Khanum HospitalwasestablishedinLahoreandPakistan’sbiggestcancercharitywasborn.Asacomprehensivecarefacilitydedicatedtothediagnosisandtreatmentofcancer,itwasafirstinPakistan.

Todate,thehospitalhashelpedwellover111,805peoplewithcancer.Youreffortswillhelpprovidehopeofrecoverytopoorcancerpatients,whowouldotherwisehavenowheretoturn.

Tocompletethe3PeaksChallengeisahugeachievement,andallthosethattakepartgohomewith

storiestotellandanexperiencetobeveryproudof.

3 Abouttheclimb

Pen-y-passisoneofthemostpopularroutesupmountSnowdon.ItstartsatthetopofLlanberis Path,359mabovesealevel,savingclimbersalotoftimeandeffort.

OurascentwillbethroughPyg Trackandwe’llfollowtheMiner’sTrackonourdescent.

29thMay 2022 (Sunday– BankHolidayWeekend):

Located in a commanding position in the Central LakelandFells, Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England at 978metres and the shortest mountain of the 3 peaks challenge.There are two routes available for the climb eitherSeathwaite or Wasdale Head.

The Wasdale Head route is six miles long, up and down andincludes 989 metres of ascent. The route we will take is tobe agreed with the walk guides, dependant on weather at

the time of the challenge.

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Britain standing at 1,344 metres (4,409 ft) above sea level, it is located at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands close to the town of Fort William.

The Glen Nevis route follows the river through the beautiful middle section of Glen Nevis before returning through the forestry.

How to get to Fort William and Ben Nevis by Car

FortWilliambyroadfromEdinburghis134miles. TheroadsinScotlandarenotfast,soexpectyourjourneytotakejustover3hours. It's109milesfromGlasgow,andthistripcanbedonein2andahalfhours. FromInvernessitis65miles,andtakes1hour32minutes.

Onceyou'vearrivedatFortWilliamneedtofollowtheGlenNevissigns. TheTouristPathbeginsaround3milesalongtheGlenNevisroadatAchinteeHowtogettoFortWilliamandBenNeviswithoutaCar

Thereareacoupleofoptionsifyouarenotdriving.

Firstlyyoucan flytoEdinburgh,GlasgoworInverness and hireacar.

YoucangotoEdinburghorGlasgowandtakethetrain- notethattherearenodirecttrainsfromInverness. ThetrainfromGlasgowtakes4hoursand40minutessoitwouldmakeatlongdaywithlittletimeonthemountaintoplantodothetripwithoutstoppingovernearby.

TraintraveltoBenNevisisverystraightforward.ThelocalstationisFortWilliam,withasleepertrainavailablefromthesouth,arrivingat9.54am.

IfyouaretravellingupfromLondontheeasiestway(andsurprisingneedn'tbeexpensive)istotaketheSleeperTrain. ThetraintravelsfromLondonEustonallthewaythroughtoFortWilliam,andtheFortWilliamRailwayStationisjusta10minutewalkfromthestartoftheTouristPath.

ThetrainleavesevernightexceptforSaturday. ItleavesLondonat9.15pm,andgetstoFortWilliamjustbefore10o'clockinthemorningsoyoucanarriverefreshedandreadyforyourclimb! Afteryourwalkyouwouldhaveplentyoftimetocatchthetrainbackat7.50pm,andwillbeabletosleepoffyourexertionsbeforeyouarrivebackinLondonjustbefore8amthenextmorning.

ShoesandClothing

Youcanneverguaranteewhattheweatherwillbelikeonthedaysoyouhavetopreparefor

theworst.Don’texpecttheweatheratthetoptobeanythingliketheweatheratthe

beginningoftheascent.Onamountain,weathercanchangequicklyanddrasticallytoo,so

youneedtobringlotsoflayersthatyoucanputonortakeoff.Waterproofstoo,areessential:

thereisnothingworsethantrudgingupamountainifyouarecoldandwet.Trustus,itwill

ruinyourday.

Youneedgoodquality,well-fittedwalkingboots.Thesedaysyoucanfindonesthatdon’t

needtobebrokenin,butiftheydon’tfitthenyoucanexpecttospendamiserabledaywith

blistersonthewayup,andpainfultoesonthewaydown.Getgoodadvicefromasport/

trekkingstoresuchasCotswolds,Decathlon,GoOutdoorsorBlacks.Yes,youmightmanagein

trainersbecausetheweatherstaysgood,butagain,youhavetoplanfortheworst.

plentyofleewaytoarriveingoodtimewithoutgettingstressed.

• Uponarrivalatthestartingpoint,pleaseregisterwithus,soweknowyouarehere,we

cansigntheforms,checkyourkitandgiveyouyourlunch.Dependingonyourlevelof

confidenceandability,wemayalsoallocateyoutoadesignatedguidewhowillkeepan

eyeonyouandsupportyouonthewayupanddown

• Whetheryouarepartofagroupornot,youstillneedtoremainclosetoaguide

becauseheorshewillsetapaceforeveryone,arrangebreaksatsuitablepoints,andif

theweatherstartstochangefortheworse,thentheguideswillmakethedecisionto

aborttheclimb.

• Everyoneisexpectedtosticktothemainpath.Eventhishastrickysectionsbutcanbe

managedwithcare.Whatwecannotallowisforpeopletowanderoffandtocreate

theirownpathsbecausethat’swhenthingscangowrong.

HowlongwillittaketowalkupanddownSnowdon?

WeexpectittotakearoundfourhourstoreachthesummitofSnowdonandthentwotothreehourstogodown,meaningyouwillbeonthemountainformostoftheday.

Whatwillthepaceofwalkingbelike?

Thepacesetwillbeaccommodatingforall.Thischallengewillnotbeenjoyableifyourush.Theleveloffitnesswillnaturallyvarythroughoutthegroup;thereforewhateverpaceyouadoptyoucanbesureofcompany.Thegroupwillbeencouragedtoworktogether,withstrongerwalkershelpingthosewhomaybeslower.Theguideswillensurethegroupstaystogetherandeveryonehasagreatday,makingsureeveryonecompletesthischallenge.Intheinterestofsafety,participantsarenotallowedtowalkinfrontoftheleadguideorfallbehindthelastguideunlessgivenpermissionbyyourguide.Pleasenotethatthepacesetprovidestheeventorganiserenoughtimetogeteveryonetothesummitsafelyandbackdownagainbeforeitgetsdark.

Aretheremanystopsonthemountain?

Wewillhaveregularreststopsthroughoutthedayatappropriateplaces.Asitisquitealongday,youareencouragedtowalkatyourowncomfortablepace.Themostimportantpieceofadviceonthedayisthatyoukeeptakingonfluidsatregularintervals.Wealsorecommendthatyoueatplentyofenergysnacks,e.g.nuts,biscuitsandfruitinordertomaintainthosevitalenergylevelsthroughoutthedayaswellasadjustingyourclothingappropriately.Haveextrawarmlayersforthesummit,eveniftheweatheratthebottomisgood.

WhatweathercanIexpect?

Aswithanyoutdoorevent,weareunabletopredicttheweathersoeachparticipantmustbepreparedforalleventualities.Youwillneedtocarryfullwetweathergearandwarmlayerswithyouonthedayofthechallenge.Theweatherconditionsatthebottomofthemountainmaybevastlydifferenttowhatwecanexpectatthetop.Inthepastwehaveencounteredeverythingfromsunshine,snowandrain.Adetailedweatherforecastwillbeprovidedforusduringthesafetybriefingbeforeyourascent.Shouldtherebeadverseweatherconditions,wereservetherighttocancelorchangetherouteforsafetyreasons.

WhatkitwillIrequire?

Themainitemsyouwillneedtobringwithyouareacomfortablepairofwalkingbootsortrainerswithanklesupport,walkingsocks,afullsetofgoodwaterproofsandplentyofthinwarmlayers.Onthedayofthechallenge,youwillneedtocarryyourownpersonalkitforthedayinasmallrucksackwhichwillinclude:yourlunch,water,waterproofs,warmlayers,hatandgloves,minifirstaidkit,cameraandphone(tocallallyoursponsorsfromthetop– signalpermitting).AllyourotherluggagewillremaininthetransportusedtotakeyoutothebaseofSnowdon.

Whatisincludedinthecostoftheevent?

Ontheactualeventdayyouwillbeprovidedwiththeassuranceofseveralguideswhowillbeabletosafelyleadallgroupstothesummits.YouwillalsobeprovidedwithanIKCATrekt-shirtbeforeyouembarkonyourchallenge.

DoIneedinsurance?

Westronglyadviseallparticipantstotakeouttheirowninsurancetocoverthemforpersonalpossessionswhichcanbearrangedforaround£10.

WealsoadviseyoutakeoutadequatetravelinsuranceshouldyoubecomeinjuredorunwellandhavetocancelthetripafterthecancelationperiodstatedinyourTermsandConditions.

Duetothenatureofthisoutdooractivity,participantsshouldacceptacertainelementofrisk.Ourguideswilldoeverythingintheirpowertominimisetherisks,wherepossible.Intheinterestsofsafetyallparticipantsmustabidebyanydecisionsmadebytheguides.

1. Thefollowingarenotincludedinthecostofthetrips:itemsofapersonalnature(e.g.telephonecalls,insuranceandcostoftraveltoandfromtheSnowdon.

2. Youshouldtakeoutyourownactivitytravelinsurancecoveringhealth,accidentandloss,emergencyrepatriationetc.IKCAcanhelpandifrequestedprovideasuitablepolicyor,ifyouhaveyourowninsurance,youmustensureitissuitablefortheevent.

3. Byregisteringforthistripyouagreetoaccepttheauthorityanddecisionsofouremployees,tourleaders,agentsandsuppliersduringthetrip. .If,intheassessmentofanyofthesepeople,yourhealthorconductappearslikelytoendangerthehealth,well-beingandprogressofthetrip,yourself,and/orothers,wereservetherighttoexcludeyoufromthetrip(inwholeorpart). Inthecaseofill-healthwereservetherighttomakesucharrangementsforyourwell-beingaswedeemnecessaryandtorecoverthewholeofthecoststhereoffromyou.

4. ACCEPTANCEOFRISK:Yourbookingisacceptedontheunderstandingthat:

(a) Youareawarethattheadventuretrip,inadditiontotheusualdangersandrisksinherenthascertainadditionaldangersandrisks,someofwhichmayinclude:

•physicalexertionforwhichyoumaynotbeprepared

•weatherextremessubjecttosuddenandunexpectedchange

•remotenessfromnormalmedicalservices

•evacuationdifficultiesifyouaredisabled

(b) Youacknowledgethattheenjoymentandexcitementofadventuretravelisderivedinpartfromtheinherentrisksincurredbytravellingandundertakingactivitiesbeyondthelevelsofsafetynormalathomeorwork,andthattheseinherentriskscontributetosuchenjoymentandexcitement,beingareasonforyourparticipation.

(c) Youacknowledgethatthenatureofthistypeoftravelrequiresconsiderableflexibilityandyoumustallowforalternatives.Theoutlineitineraryprovidedforthetripisonlyanindicationofwhateachgroupmayaccomplish,anddoesnotformacontractualobligationonthepartofIKCA.

(d) Youunderstandthattheroute,schedules,itineraries,amenitiesandmodesoftransportmaybesubjecttoalterationwithoutpriornoticeduetolocalcircumstancesorevents,suchassickness,mechanicalbreakdown,flightcancellationsetc.

5. IKCAreservestherighttoamendorchangetheitinerarywithoutpriornotice.

6. Allinstructionsgiventoyouontheeventmustbeobservedforyourownsafety.Participationinthiseventisatyourownrisk.

7. Yourplaceontheeventisnotsecureduntil;(i)IKCAareinreceiptofthesignedandcompletedregistrationform.

(ii) ThemedicalformuponwhichyouagreetothetermsandconditionsissuedbyIKCA.

(iii) AnduntilyouhavereceivedaconfirmationletterfromIKCAstatingthatyourplacehasbeensecured

8. IKCAreservestherighttonotacceptaparticipantontoachallengeatanypointleadinguptodepartureofthetrip.

9. Participantswillnormallyonlybeacceptediftheyareatleast15yearsofagebythefirstdayofthetrip.IKCAshallnotbeliableforanyfailuretoperformthecontractwhichisduetounusualandunforeseeablecircumstancesbeyondthecontrolofIKCAoroursuppliers,theconsequencesofwhichcouldnothavebeenavoidedevenifallduecarehadbeenexercised;includingbutnotlimitedtowar,threatofwar,riot,civilstrife,industrialdisputeincludingairtrafficcontroldisputes,terroristactivity,naturalandnucleardisaster,fire,adverseorthreatofadverseweatherconditions,technicalproblemswithtransport,closureorcongestionofairportsorports.

10. Inrespectofland-onlyclients(meaningthosepeoplenotstartingwiththegroupfromUK),ourresponsibilitydoesnotcommenceuntilyouarriveatthedesignatedmeetingpoint.Ifyoufailtoarrivethereattheappointedtime,weshallnotberesponsibleforanyadditionalexpensesincurredbyyouinordertomeetupwiththegroup.

11. JURISDICTION:ThiscontractshallbegovernedbyandconstruedinaccordancewithEnglishLawandanydisputeshallbesubjecttotheexclusivejurisdictionoftheEnglishcourts.
