Meet Pepper Thomas, the Haven of the Ozarks Pet of the Week. Pepper came to the Haven back in April when her owners had to move to an assisted living facility. Pepper loves getting brushed, going for walks, getting treats, and getting lots of attention. She has only lived outside, but when she was in our indoor kennels, she didn't have any accidents at all. Haven staff would love to see this sweet senior find an inside home with a real family to spoil her rotten for the rest of her life. She deserves it.

Haven of the Ozarks is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day of the week or call (417) 835-3647 for more information. Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary is located at 9617 Farm Road 2190 in Washburn. Visit them online at www.havenoftheo-zarks.org.

Shell Knob will hold “the biggest little fall festival in the Ozarks” on Friday, Sep-tember 13 and Saturday, September 14. The popu-lar event will provide fam-ily fun and entertainment starting on Friday after-

noon at 5:00 p.m. at Cham-ber Park just off Highway 39 in downtown Shell Knob. Parking and admission to the fairgrounds is free.

Friday evening’s line-up includes several food booths and a beer and wine

garden. Stroll the grounds to visit a variety of retail booths and a boat, motor-cycle, kayak and outdoors show. The night will be capped off with a free con-cert by the popular Earl and Them.

Saturday opens with the 31st annual Classic and Custom Car Show from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Activities and events for the whole family run from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The beer and wine garden, festival food booths and a farmer’s mar-ket will be on-site all day, along with retail booths and the outdoors show. Children can enjoy carnival rides, bungee jump, bubble soccer, face painting, rock wall climbing and camel rides. There is a charge for some of these activities.

Axe throwing from 4:00 to 6:00 and tethered hot air balloon rides from 5:00 to 7:00 are scheduled for the more adventurous. On-stage performances will occur throughout the day including local school bands, Dickerson Park Zoo animals (including, among many others, a red-tailed boa, Peregrine falcon, bearded dragon and great horned owl) and a Veter-an’s Salute with a live eagle. Cool off at the misting tent or enjoy the “man cave.” Try your hand at the horseshoe pitching tournament with

Pete Ploss, 2019 Missouri State Champion or enter the Talent Contest, open to all ages with acts judged on Originality, Showman-ship, Overall Performance and Stage Presence. Both of these contests have signifi-cant cash prizes.

Enjoy the Little Miss/Mr. Shell Knob contest and be sure to check out the elaborately decorated fa-cilities of the Porta Potty Contest. Our canine friends are always welcome to par-ticipate in the Bark in the Park contest with ribbons and prizes. Dogs can win in categories of Ugliest Dog, Best Trick, Looks Most Like Owner, Smallest Dog, Larg-est Dog, Best Costume and King and Queen. Janice Swofford will demonstrate how to show a dog and there will be a dog training

demonstration by T’s dogs. More information on the competitions is available at www.shakinfest.com.

The day winds up with a free concert featuring Switch It Up! from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy an early fall evening under the stars. No coolers, please. Be sure to get your one-of-a-kind Sha-kin’ T-shirt and once-in-a-lifetime Shell Knopoly game at the Chamber booth.

Shell Knob’s exciting Shakin’ in the Shell Festi-val is planned by the Shell Knob Chamber of Com-merce. This year’s event is made possible by the gen-erous sponsorship of many area businesses: diamond sponsor Area71; platinum sponsor Harter House; and gold sponsors MariCorp U.S., The Harbor, Jug N

Plug and SS Dockside Cafe and Pub. Along with many other festival sponsors, Shell Knob invites you to join in the fun and activi-ties at the biggest little fall festival in the Ozarks on September 13 and 14 in beautiful downtown Shell Knob, Missouri on Table Rock Lake. See the full line-up of events and activities at www.shakinfest.com or on Facebook at ShakinFest. For more information call 417-858-3300 or visit www.shellknob.com.

revive the energy in our businesses. We want them to be able to ask themselves why they started their business and get back to the passion of it. It’s also to provide ways to look at how they’re running their business and give them ways to make improvements.”

Selby has been in contact with representatives from chambers of commerce in the surrounding areas about Higher Vision seminars, some of which experienced great success in the wake of their events.

“This group has offered Big Vision Days to a lot of the chambers in the area. I’ve talked to the Neosho Chamber of Commerce, and they say that they’ve had a lot of success,” said Selby. “These other chambers have seen success, with their attendance growing and people liking it. The business owners seem to like it and are ready to go to the next one.”

In addition to joining the Cassville Chamber of Com-merce, Higher Vision has also been working with business-es in town on a one-on-one basis successfully, according to Selby.

Big Vision Day will take place on Thursday, September 26. The event is slated to take place in the Fire Tower room of the Emory Melton Lodge, in Roaring River State Park. The event will begin at 8 a.m. with a social hour during which attendees are encouraged to meet with other local business owners and make lasting connections. According to Selby, attendees should bring multiple business cards to pass out during this portion of the event.

The seminar is open to anyone who is interested in ei-ther starting or growing a business. Admission to the event costs $40 for the general public, and $25 for members of the Cassville Chamber of Commerce. Lunch is included in the ticket and will be provided by Roaring River Restaurant.

For more information about Big Vision Day, contact the Cassville Chamber of Commerce at (417) 847-2814. For more information about the contents of the seminar or the services provided by Higher Vision, contact their offices at (417) 438-4428.

had to have surgery, ac-cording to Detective David Haskins, of the Monett Po-lice. The victim was in stable condition after surgery.

The Monett Police De-partment searched for Huse with no success following the shooting. They con-firmed the incident was believed to have stemmed from an argument and was an isolated incident.

When a Lawrence Coun-ty deputy arrested Huse, he was booked for multiple controlled substance charg-es as well as resisting arrest and an unlawful possession of a firearm charge from the shooting.

Huse was booked into the Lawrence County Jail on Sunday, September 8, at 11:10 a.m., according to Lawrence County Jail online records. He is currently be-ing held with no possibility of bond. No other charges pertaining to the August 20 incident have been charged as of time of press.

SUSPECT from FRONTCommunity comes together to support Bailey family Vinnie Roberts

Small towns have a repu-tation for taking care of their own. In times of tragedy, many communities will crowd around a single individual or family to insulate them from the horrible curve balls thrown their way. The town of Cassville is no exception.

In this spirit, two events have been planned to benefit the family of Tonya Bailey, a former Eagle Rock resident and Freedom Bank employ-ee. Bailey was diagnosed with brain and lung cancer at the beginning of this year, and passed away earlier this month. Bailey is survived by her husband, John, and her two children. The first of these events event to benefit the Bai-ley family will be on Saturday, September 14. Barry County Law Enforcement, EMS and Fire and Rescue will host a team softball game, with all proceeds going to help the Bai-ley family.

Law Enforcement, EMS and Fire will all have their own teams and will play against themselves and oth-ers in a double-elimination tournament. Citizens of Barry County are also welcome to assemble their own teams of at least 11 players and enter the tournament as well. Entry to the tournament costs $5 per player.

Food will be served dur-

ing the tournament. For $2 a plate, attendees will be treated to hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and a soft drink.

This event will also include a silent auction with items do-nated by the community up for grabs. Auction items include: a massage, purses and jewelry, an item donation by Lowe’s Construction of Monett, a log-cabin bird feeder among others.

The game will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, at the baseball fields lo-cated by the Cassville Aquatic Center. To get involved or in-quire about the game, contact Randy Kalbaugh at (417) 342-5618.

The second of these events is to be hosted by the 1995 graduating class of Cassville High in conjunction with the Bailey family. On Saturday, September 21, the group will host a donation breakfast as well as a 5k and one mile fun run known as “Cassville Cares 2019.” The event will be hosted at the Family Life Center in Cassville, located on West 5th Street, behind Sunrise Family Diner. According to the online registration form, the course will be friendly to beginners.

The menu for the break-fast will be biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, juice and cof-fee. Breakfast will be available for the cost of a donation to as-sist the Bailey family.

The event will begin at 7 a.m. on September 21, which will be the earliest that partici-pants can check-in for the race. Advanced race-packet pickup begins at 6 a.m. The race will formally begin shortly after, at 8 a.m., with the event expected to end at 10 a.m.

Registration for the race costs $25 for pre-registration and $20 for in-person registra-tion the morning of the event. All pre-registered racers are guaranteed a t-shirt to com-memorate the event, but sup-plies are limited, so the t-shirts may not be available to some participants who register that morning.

For people who would like to support the event but can-not be there in person, there is also an online “virtual race” option. With this option, rac-ers can dedicate their own time to run the distance and have their race time entered with the other racers present on the day. Virtual Race regis-tration costs $30 and will guar-antee the participant a t-shirt. Registration for virtual racers must be submitted by Friday, September 13.

The race will include prizes for first place male and female in each age group for the 5k run; first place overall for the 1k run; and first place time for the virtual run. Proceeds from

The Renkoski family has 180 acres in Purdy purchased in 1910, that originally raised cows, hogs and chickens. Alvin and Rosella Renkoski are pictured above with Stewart.

The University of Missouri Cassville Extension office hosted a special ceremony to award four different families the distinction of Century Farm Family on Thursday, September 5.

Pictured above, siblings Rose Mills and David Renkoski are pictured with Eden Stewart, of the extension office. The Ren-koski farm is 50 acres in Purdy that was purchased in 1917 and operated as dairy farm in years past.

The Foster farm is a 160-acre farm in Monett that was first es-tablished in 1901 and originally raised sheep, hogs, cattle and chickens. Pictured, J.W. and Barbara Foster are pictured with Extension representative Eden Stewart.

The Marchlewski/Moloski farm is 40 acres and located in Pierce City. It was origi-nally purchased in 1896 as a general farm that pro-duced many different goods throughout the years.

Demolition Derby crashes into Bill Haley arena

Driveer of the GoBec “1-Gig” bone stock car, Rusty Newman, of Cassville, takes heavy damage at Saturday’s demolition derby after a car smashes into his side, taking out his radiator and causing his engine to flume smoke. Newman rode out the event for as long as his car would drive, but would eventually have to throw in the towel after the machine caught fire in the arena.

Charlea Estes-JonesA 25-year-old man from Purdy is facing multiple charg-

es after allegedly firing a gun into a home in rural Purdy. Benjamin W. Paine, III, 25, of Purdy, is charged with pos-session of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree.

According to the affidavits of probable cause by deputy Michael Stribling, the Barry County Sheriff 's Department was dispatched to a residence in rural Purdy on Farm Road 1068 around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, September 7. Paine allegedly fired a .22 long rifle into the home of a woman he was in a romantic relationship with while her four year old child was inside. The report goes on to state that Paine poked the victim in the arm with the rifle, causing an in-jury, as well.

When officers made contact with Paine, they also locat-ed crystal methamphetamine and a glass pipe in a baggie.

Paine is currently being held in the Barry County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 cash-only bond.

By law, every two years the Barry County Clerk's office is required to canvass the voters before a general election for federal office. This is for the purpose of updating their re-cords with correct addresses and names.

return the card to the clerk's office. This card will replace your old Voter Registration ID.

If you receive a card for a relative that no longer lives in Barry County or is deceased, please notify the office in writing. Please include their name, date of birth, last four digits of their Social Security Number, your signature and relationship to them.

If you have any questions, call the office at (417) 847-2561.

On Monday, September 16, at 5:30 p.m., the city council of Cassville will once again address the issue of dogs running loose. I have very little hope of any action being taken, it will be hashed and rehashed and then kicked down the road. I addressed this issue ten to twelve years ago.

Since the vicious attack on my daughter, I have been stopped on the street many times by people telling horror stories.

Just this morning, I had a large dog come under a fence coming at me. It did not appear vicious. It came toward me several times as two girls tried to catch it. As I neared home, a large dog came barreling off the porch barking and snarling. Because it stayed in the yard, I did not report it.

Does someone have to be killed by a dog or dogs before we can get some action?

See you at the city council meeting. Nadean Davis

Lee StubblefieldTrailing 14-7 on the road

to an inspired Springfield Catholic team, the Cassville Wildcats responded with 42 points to down the Fighting Irish, 49-21. Both Bowen Preddy and Zach Coenen topped the century mark in rushing as Casssville’s offen-sive line took over the game late in the first quarter.

But it was an ugly first few minutes for Cassville. After claiming a 7-0 lead on a 10-yard, Bowen Preddy run and a Drake Reese PAT, the Wildcats fumbled on back-to-back possessions. The fired up Irish took full advantage of the gifts. Mat-thew Schmittling scored from 5 yards out, and Will Squibb tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Zach Gebhard to give Springfield Catholic a 14-7 lead.

In sports and in life, your true character is best revealed in adversity. Lance Parnell’s troops regrouped on the sideline and took over the game from that point. Cassville scored touchdowns on their next six possessions to turn the luck of the Irish into a lock for the Wildcats.

Deven Bates completed a 72-yard drive with a 21-yard scoring pass to DJ White to tie the score at 14-14 with 7:18 left in the second quar-ter.

Then, a disastrous fourth down saw Springfield Cath-olic’s punter flushed by the Cassville rush, then throw an incomplete pass, giving Cassville the ball at the SC 24-yard line. Four plays later, Preddy burst off tackle for a

16-yard score, and Cassville regained the lead at 21-14 at the 2:46 mark.

Another three and out for the Irish gave the Wildcats the ball at the SC 37-yard line with just 1:38 remaining in the half. A 21-yard run by White was negated by a pen-alty, but Preddy broke loose for 10 yards, and then White turned a bubble screen into a 15-yard gain to the 22-yard line. Then Bates tossed to Preddy for another 14 yards.

With the clock running down, the ‘Cats hurried to the line but instead of spiking the ball, Bates took a knee in the confusion. Parnell used his last time out to preserve the waning seconds.

On the ensuing play, Bates drilled a quick out to White at the 2-yard line, and he muscled into the end zone for another score. Reese remained perfect on con-versions as Cassville built a 28-14 halftime lead.

The scoring avalanche continued in the third quar-ter. White intercepted a Squibb pass and returned it to the Catholic 35-yard line on the second play of scrim-

mage. The Wildcats navi-gated the short field in just five plays, with Preddy blast-ing through the line for a short touchdown run. Reese drilled his fifth PAT for a 35-14 Cassville lead with exactly 9:00 on the clock at Swisshelm Field.

Catholic’s hopes hung by a thread as they started their next possession after Reese boomed another touchback kickoff. Three running plays netted nine yards, and the Irish faced a 4th-and-1 situ-ation at their own 29-yard line.

Every game has one of those turning point moments, when everything has to go right for a team to have a chance for victory. Trailing by three scores mid-way through the third quar-ter, the Irish would have to convert on this fourth down to keep any hope alive for a comeback.

Instead, they punted, and the Wildcats took over at their own 39-yard line.

Zach Coenen’s fero-cious runs led Cassville on a 61-yard scoring drive. Coenen led off the drive

with a 31-yard burst, and followed that with runs of 13 and 9 yards. Preddy creased the line for 6 yards to set up 1st and goal, and Coenen plowed into the endzone as the Wildcats extended the lead to 42-14 at the 4:56 mark of the third quarter.

Schmittling ran a short kickoff all the way back to the Cassville 45-yard line, but the Irish quickly faced 4th and 12 against the domi-nating Wildcat defense. After punting on 4th and 1, Catholic went for 4th and 12, but Squibb’s pass was inter-cepted by Jericho Farris and returned to the SC 30-yard line.

Bates capped off a 6-play drive, scoring off right tackle out of the wishbone set to establish a 49-14 lead with just 51 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Irish would post one more score in the abbrevi-ated fourth quarter, with Squibb finding Liam O’Riley with a 35-yard scoring toss to create the 49-21 final score.

Just two weeks into the season, the Big 8 puzzle is quickly coming together.

Cassville looks very deserving of their Top 10 state ranking after demolish-ing Aurora and Springfield Catholic. The Irish received a lot of love from the Spring-field media after their come-back win over Seneca, but Cassville exposed Catho-lic’s weakness on the line of scrimmage.

Except for the two fum-bles, Cassville dominated this game in every phase.

Deven Bates finished 5-for-8 for 73 yards, and 2 TDs in another stellar pass-ing performance.

Bowen Preddy had 20 carries for 132 yards and 3 TDs.

Zach Coenen had 12 car-ries for 103 yards and a score.

DJ White’s stock contin-ued to rise with his 4 catches for 63 yards and 2 TDs.

As a team, Cassville rushed 39 times for 275 yards and added 73 yards in the passing game. The Wild-

cats amassed 20 first downs while dominating the line of scrimmage.

Cassville improves to 2-0 with the victory and returns home to face forever rival Monett in the Barry County Brawl in week 3. The Cubs enter this game 1-1 after los-ing a 22-21 heartbreaker to Mt. Vernon in week 1 and then posting a 49-20 victory at Marshfield.

Kickoff at Wildcat Sta-dium is set for 7 PM.

It was another solid couple of weeks for the ladies of the Cassville Women’s Golf asso-ciation. Reporting favorable weather for the game, the as-sociation met for a game of “Guess your score” wherein the golfer’s scores were taken by another player, and the winner was the member who guessed closest to their actual score.

First place in this game went to Ann Loeppke who was

only off by one stroke on her real score. On this day, Lynn Blanke and Jeanette Skorup-ski tied each other for lowest putts. There were no birdies, chip-ins or closest to the hole winners.

On September 5, the asso-ciation met again to play a round of lowest grossing score. First place in this game went to Janie Watson, second went to Leta Higgs and third went to Karry Lewis.

Lowest net scores were also recorded, with the winners of this portion of the event rec-ognized. First place went to Debbie Yarnall, second went to Cheryl Ludwig and third went to Barb Vesley.

Closest to the pin was Janie Watson on hole 11. Low-est total putts went to Debbie Yarnall. Birdies were scored by Leta Higgs and a chip-in was scored by Ann Loeppke.

The Barry County Health Department divides food service code violations into two categories: Priority and Core items.

Priority items are more likely than other violations to contribute to food con-tamination or illness and/or injury.

Core items, although important to the overall hy-giene of the establishment, do not necessarily present an immediate threat to food contamination or illness and/or injury.

A report for each estab-lishment that is inspected shows the number of prior-ity items along with a short statement as to the nature of the violations. The report also shows the number of core items but doesn’t list the nature of those viola-tions.

417-652-78423834 State Hwy HH, Purdy, MO

With deer hunting opening for archery season on Sept. 15 and firearms portions in the coming months, the Mis-souri Department of Conser-vation (MDC) wants hunt-ers, landowners and others to know key information about chronic wasting disease, or CWD. MDC is continuing its efforts this fall and winter to limit the spread of CWD in Missouri deer by finding new cases and slowing its spread to more deer or more areas.

CWD is a deadly, infec-tious disease in white-tailed deer and other members of the deer family that eventu-ally kills all animals it infects. There is no vaccine or cure. CWD is spread from deer to deer and through the en-vironment. MDC has found 116 cases of CWD in Mis-souri since 2012 out of more

than 100,000 deer sampled so the disease remains relatively rare in the state. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/cwd under “CWD in Missouri.”

There have been no re-ported cases of CWD infect-ing people, but the Centers for Disease Control and Pre-vention (CDC) strongly rec-ommends having deer tested for CWD if harvested in an area known to have the dis-ease. The CDC also recom-mends not eating meat from animals that test positive for CWD. For more information, visit mdc.mo.gov/cwd under “Human Health Risks.”

CWD Management Zone

MDC has a CWD Man-agement Zone of counties in or near where CWD has been found. The 29 counties of the CWD Management Zone for

this season are: Adair, Barry, Cedar, Chariton, Christian, Crawford, Franklin, Gascon-ade, Hickory, Howell, Jef-ferson, Knox, Linn, Macon, Mercer, Oregon, Ozark, Per-ry, Polk, Putnam, St. Charles, St. Clair, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, Stone, Sullivan, Taney, Warren and Wash-ington. See the included map image on 8B. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/cwd.

Voluntary CWD sam-pling all season statewide

MDC is offering free vol-untary CWD sampling and testing of deer harvested any-where in Missouri through-out the entire deer hunting season (Sept. 15 through Jan. 15, 2020) at MDC regional offices during regular busi-ness hours and through par-ticipating taxidermists and meat processors within the CWD Management Zone. Get locations and more in-formation at mdc.mo.gov/cwd under “Voluntary Sam-pling.”

Mandatory CWD Sam-

pling November 16 and 17Hunters who harvest deer

in any counties of the CWD Management Zone during the opening weekend of the November portion of the fall firearms deer season (Nov. 16 and 17) are required to take their harvested deer (or the head with at least six inches of neck attached) on the day of harvest to one of MDC’s numerous CWD sampling stations through-out the zone. Sampling and test results are free. Hunters who harvest deer in coun-ties no longer part of the zone are not required to par-ticipate in sampling. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/cwd under “Mandatory CWD Sampling,” or from MDC’s “2019 Fall Deer & Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information” booklet, avail-able where permits are sold and online at huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/downloads/2019FDT.pdf.

Before having deer sam-pled for CWD

Field dress and Telecheck deer before arrival at a sam-pling station.

Bring the carcass or just the head with at least six inches of the neck attached.

Capes may be removed in preparation for taxidermy before going to a sampling station.

The person who harvest-ed the deer must be present.

The hunter’s conservation number will be required, along with specific location of harvest.

If using a paper permit, have it detached from the deer for easy access.

If using the MO Hunting app, have permit and Telech-eck information available.

Position deer in vehicles with heads and necks easily accessible.

CWD Test resultsGet test results for CWD-

sampled deer online at mdc.mo.gov/CWDTestResults. Results are free and will be available within four weeks after the sampling date.

Carcass disposalCarcasses or remains of

CWD-infected deer can ex-pose other deer to the dis-ease. Process deer as close as possible to where harvested. Place remaining carcass parts in trash bags and prop-

erly dispose of them in the trash or a landfill. If neces-sary, bury or leave remains at the harvest site. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/cwd under “Carcass Disposal.”

New regulations on car-cass movement and disposal will go into effect in 2020. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/mdc-has-new-rules-deer-carcasses-ongo-ing-fight-against-cwd

Share the Harvest Missouri’s Share the Har-

vest program helps deer hunters donate venison to those in need. To participate, take harvested deer to an ap-proved meat processor and let the processor know how much venison is to be donat-ed. Learn more and find par-ticipating processors at mdc.mo.gov/share.

Deer harvested within the CWD Management Zone may only be donated to approved processors in the Share the Harvest CWD Test-ing Program located within or directly adjacent to the CWD Management Zone. Processors not participat-ing in the Share the Harvest CWD Testing Program can-not accept deer from CWD Management Zone counties. Deer harvested outside of the CWD Management Zone

During July and August, matching funds grant checks for rural fire departments were distributed by the Missouri Department of Conservation forestry division staff. One hundred sixty-eight fire departments received checks for up to $4,000 each to help with the purchase of personal protective gear, communications equipment and wildfire suppression equipment to help increase the fire departments' capacity to suppress wildfires safety and efficiently.

The total matching funds awarded to Missouri fire depart-ments through the matching funds grant program this year was $386,639.14. Fire departments are required to match 50 percent of the funds which are provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the US Forest Service volunteer fire assistance program. Throughout the last 30 years, over $8 million has been distributed to rural fire departments to help them increase the safety of their firefighters and provide them with better firefight-ing equipment.

The Eagle Rock-Golden-Mano Fire Department received a check for $1,644.12. Pictured are, left to right, Jerry Craig, MDC, and Mark Pierson, ERGM fire chief.

The Full Life Fellowship Church in Purdy recently joined the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce. Pas-tors Wilson and Judy Gauntt along with area churches spent the summer working tirelessly on renovating and updating the former Purdy Assembly of God Church located on 209 W. Jefferson Street.

The church celebrated their efforts with a community block party in August. They provided free barbecue, inflat-able and music to the Purdy community. The church is now open and encourage all to come by.

may be donated to any Share the Harvest processor.

For deer sampled for CWD before being taken to an approved processor for donation, present the CWD barcode number provided at the sampling station to the processor as proof of sam-pling. If a sample has not been collected before dona-tion, the processor will col-lect the sample or remove the head and submit it to MDC for sampling. Learn more at mdc.mo.gov/cwd under “Share the Harvest.”

Feeding ban in CWD-management zone

Feeding deer or placing minerals for deer unnaturally concentrates the animals and can help spread CWD. The Wildlife Code of Missouri prohibits the placement of grain, salt products, miner-als, and other consumable natural and manufactured products used to attract deer year-round within coun-ties of the CWD Manage-ment Zone. Exceptions are feed placed within 100 feet

of any residence or occupied building, feed placed in such a manner to reasonably ex-clude access by deer, and feed and minerals present solely as a result of normal agricul-tural or forest management, or crop and wildlife food production practices. The feeding ban does not apply to food plots or other agri-cultural practices. The feed-ing ban no longer applies to counties removed from the CWD Management Zone.

Antler-point restrictionCounties within the

CWD Management Zone do not have an antler-point re-striction. Protecting young bucks from being harvested in areas where CWD has been found can increase the spread of the disease. The APR has been reinstated for some counties removed from the zone. Learn more from MDC’s “2019 Fall Deer & Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information” booklet, available where permits are sold and online at huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/

files/downloads/2019FDT.pdf.

Firearms antlerless per-mits

The increased availabil-ity of firearms antlerless per-mits for some counties in the CWD Management Zone can help prevent undesired population increases in lo-cal deer numbers around where CWD has been found. Learn more from MDC’s “2019 Fall Deer & Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information” booklet, avail-able where permits are sold and online at huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/downloads/2019FDT.pdf.

CWD Management Zone

MDC has a CWD Man-agement Zone of counties in or near where CWD has been found. The 29 counties of the CWD Management Zone for this season are shaded on the map.

Find this and other MDC media releases in our MDC online Newsroom.

CWD from 4B

The shaded counties are part of the CWD Management Zone for the 2019-202 deer hunting season.
