We have come a long way since the independence. Sixty seven years, indeed, a long time for a country of over 1.2 billion population

to attain greater literacy stature. The current literacy rate as per the 2012 census of India reported 76% and there are more than 13

lakh schools, over 40,000 colleges and 750 universities in India. However, the hundred percent literacy mission still remains a

dream.

The right to basic education is now guaranteed by the Constitution of India which needs to be supplemented with a skill

development strategy that can ensure gainful employment. There are about 12 million individuals expected to join the workforce

every year. The country is facing a skill deficit on account of the large demand-supply gap, which results in a large pool of

potential learners. This talent pool needs to be adequately skilled to be employable.

The education sector in India is at a stage of significant growth. The vast diversity in ethnicities coupled with varying demographics

has prompted different players to invest in the sector. Meanwhile, the upward surge in the Indian economy and consequent increase

in income levels has aided the spending on education in the average Indian household.

This is a great opportunity for us. Taking advantage of such an opportunity is contingent upon progress on the human resource

development front. We have to provide quality education at the same time introduce programs to enhance the skills of young

population to fully reap the benefits of the demographic dividend. After all, education is developing human resource by which an

individual is empowered to develop fully the innate potential .

Our efforts shall be to provide adequate facilities, create conducive environment and make available practical experience to

enhance knowledge with skills. At NITTE institutions, we take pride in maintaining an up to date modern campus in addition to

creating ideal learning environment where our students are able to acquire knowledge and advanced skill in their respective fields

enabling them to fulfill their aspirations.

Our continuous effort to improve the quality of education makes us one of the most distinguished educational institutions in the

country.

The need of the hour is to synergize the efforts and resources of all the stake holders - the Government, the Industry and the

Academia to provide a feasible platform for effective education and skill development.

In this era of globalization, when the world is witnessing transformation in all areas affecting human lives, the health care segment and especially the pharma sector is experiencing intense thrust in demand for quality manpower like never-before.

With the population of India crossing 1.2 billion mark, the health care system is under great strain to provide adequate care for all. There is still an acute shortage of healthcare professionals – doctors, nurses, pharmacists – in the country. This means we have to develop the required hospitals and health centers and sharpen our academic delivery systems.

To meet this demand of the health care industry, there is a need for a paradigm shift and re-orientation in the thought process of all stakeholders- The Government, Industry and the Academe.

Nitte Gulabi Shetty Memorial Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences has remained proactive to the changing trends and growing needs of the healthcare and pharma sector by actively promoting ‘Good Pharmacy Education Practice’ – GPEP. The college has been providing quality pharma education for over 3 decades and has offered a large number of pharma professionals to the industry who have been performing remarkably both in India and Abroad.

The Board of Studies in Pharmaceutical Sciences is responsible for constant up-gradation of the syllabus by drawing inputs and soliciting advice of the experts from industry. Offering a curriculum that is contemporary has been a self-imposed norm with us.

In recognition of our mission to provide quality education driven by best practices, innovation, constant review and up-gradation of the syllabus to meet with the expectations of the industry, Nitte University has been placed in ‘A’ category by the Ministry of Human Resource & Development (MHRD), Govt. of India and accredited with grade ‘A’ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college is recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and the UG program is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

I feel privileged to invite you to participate in our placement process. I am happy to present to you competent, motivated and ‘raring-to-perform’ batch of young aspirants ready to gel-into the healthcare and pharmaceutical settings and deliver ‘par excellence’

This brochure will give you a brief profile of our students, staff, our impetus for research activities, infrastructure etc. I am sure you will find your match in our students.

I wish that your involvement should not be limited to placement activity alone but also extend into areas of our academic deliverables. We would be glad to have you on board as academic advisors to help us frame industry relevant syllabus to empower our students with latest skills and knowledge.

According to Prof. C. S. Shastry, head of the department, in another decade India will be the centre of drug research due to various reasons-availability of highly skilled manpower, excellent infrastructure and relatively low cost of drug development. In this scenario, pharmacologists will be playing a vital role and will be in short supply. It will be very prudent on the part of students to develop proficiency in core areas like pre-clinical studies, toxicity profiling etc.

The department is well equipped with facilities for computer simulated animal experimentation programs, cell and molecular biology, cell culture techniques, centrifugation, liquid scintillation counting and computing and New Drug Screening approaches.

The research scholars are engaged in

?The investigation of basic questions concerning the interaction of chemical substances with biological systems.

?The understanding of fundamental mechanisms in chemical physiology and pathology

?The action of drugs, and in toxicology.
