Anthracnose of Yard Long Beans
Pathogen Name: Colletotrichum sp.(Fungal disease)
Favorable condition: Anthracnose is favored by cool temperatures 600 F (160 C) and wet
condition.Symptoms Symptoms of anthracnose can appear on any part of plant
Lesions on leaves are dark brown
On the pods, the fungus produces black, sunken lesions.
Infected seed become discoloured changing to yellow through brown to black.
In damp weather, the centres of anthracnose lesions become covered with a pink spore mass.
Anthracnose of Yard Long Beans4
Controls Use certified disease-free seeds.
Plant resistant varieties Remove from the field and destroy crop debris after harvest.
Made a 2 to 3 year crop rotation Avoid overhead irrigation. Avoid movement of workers in the field when wet
Follow a good weed control program.
At last, Fungicide sprays can also be helpful(Use Tipsin M 2gm/L, Tilt-250 EC 0.5 ml/L, Daithena M-45 2gm/L).

Rust of Yard Long BeansCaused by: Uromyces vignae (Fungal
disease)Symptoms Brown gori (lesions).
Rust spots appear on all parts above the ground.
Numerous rust lesions particularly on the under surface of the leaf.
Severely infected leaves drop off.
Brown gori (lesions).6
Controls • Destroy crop residues after harvesting.
• Avoid continuous cropping of beans.
• Practise a 2 to 3 year crop rotation without legumes.
• Intercrop with cereals.• Plant resistant varieties where available
• A number of pesticides are available in the market. There are reports claiming that baking soda, compost tea spray, EM (effective microorganisms) and papaya leaf extract control bean rust.
At last use, Fungicide sprays with water. (Kyalixin 1ml/L, Tilt-250 EC 0.5 ml/L) Rust disease7
Downy mildew of Yard Long BeansCaused by: Peronospora paracitica
(Fungal disease)Symptoms Small yellow spots on the leaves
Pink fungus can be seen below the leaves
Older leaves die

Controls Destroy crop residues after harvesting.
Remove the plant from the field
Fungicide spray with water (Daithena M-45 2.5 g/L if that is not work than use myanakojeba + metalexil – 2 gm / L).

Bacterial Soft RotCaused by: Erwinia carotovora
(Bacterial disease)Symptoms The disease starts on leaves, stems, pods and underground parts as small, water soaked, translucent spots (lesions).
These rapidly enlarge in both diameter and depth.
The host tissue softens and becomes mushy or watery
Decompose plant tissues10 water soaked, translucent spots
Controls Remove infected plants immediately
Remove plant residues after harvest
plants are planted in well-drained soils
Avoid overhead irrigation.Use seed treatment by the Daithena M-45 0.2% Of the solution.
Soil and foliage insecticide treatment helps controls the bugs that frequently cause wounds and disseminate the bacteria. 11 Decompose plant tissues
Yellow Leaves diseaseCaused by: Mosaic Virus (Virus
disease)Symptoms Cupping and twisting of leaves with a light and dark green mosaic pattern.
The dark green tissue is often bubbled and/or in bands next to the veins
plants produce smaller, curled pods with a greasy appearance
It can be transmitted by several aphid species
Light and dark green mosaic pattern.12
Controls • Use certified and disease-free seeds
• Plant resistant varieties
• Remove infected plants from the field
• Control attacks of aphids by insecticides.
